Don't wanna see it as negative, since people aren't a statistic, or a tax head count. Reading off percentages like this, makes it seem like they are a product who is past their due date.

I'm glad for these people they had a long life, and I hope they stay healthy.

As a member of the deprived '70s-'80s "Lost Generation" I hesitate to say this, but I respect and admire this generation of people, who were born in the 1910s-20s and are old enough to remember the horrors of WWII firsthand, and don't mind at all paying for their pensions and their medical treatment. I'd like to do even more for them as we have a lot to learn from them while they're still with us. And they're often some of the friendliest, most open-minded, "based" people you could ever meet!

(Now the baby boomers on the other hand... who were born with silver spoons in their mouths and guaranteed jobs and pensions yet act like we are the entitled ones... I'm not going to enjoy paying for their luxurious retirement while people my age are subsisting on instant ramen!)

Thon, I was with you until that last sentence. A bit of a generalization I think. Anyway, life in Japan is surely better than life in USA. I've spent about 50/50 of my long life in both countries. I wonder why any Asian, especially Japanese would want to live in America. Maybe a few places in America might be good, but it's gone way down overall. Plus the food. Very hard to eat healthy in Beikoku.

With more nonagenarians, now is a good time for younger people to learn from past experiences.

I kinda of is a negative since the Government sets policy for an entire nation..... for 2 million people.

I don't think these older people are result of suicide. @tomorrow, why do you think suicide in Japan is related to population growth of older people?

With the number of Elderly people increasing and drawing upon pensions, one has to wonder whether the Pensions system will eventually collapse, since after all it's essentially a Pyramid scheme needing people to pay into it, so that it can pay out.
