Japan did a great job, even under the circumstances of constant Chinese dis-information. If we were on that ship, we would have stayed in Yokohama. I've spend brief periods in both a Japanese and American hospital. I know where I would rather stay if I needed to. So do about 50 Americans in Yokohama.

Why is the 14 Americans in American ship a Japanese health issue? The boat was not on Japanese soil. Japan could have denied the ship but accepted out of kindness. It was none of Japan's responsibility.

Did you even read the article? I am going to guess not, as they are in quarantine on a US military installation in CALIFORNIA!

What they hell are they exhausted from? A bus ride from a cruise ship to an airplane and then an 8 hour flight?
And FYI ANYTHING they say as individuals IS an official statement!

haloerika,
that's why the infection rate is higher than Wuhan, China, Japan used 14 century method to keep everyone in ship so infection rate is the highest in the world.
theFu
Exactly.
Crew members and passengers infected, running around the ship, leaving virus everywhere. Basically, the quarantine clock has to be reset every time a new case is found - 99 new on the ship today. The quarantine on the ship isn't working.
At least by getting off, they will have a known 14 days more and either be sick or back to their homes and normal lives. They will be cared for my medical professionals who just had a contamination refresher class, had validation on proper n95 mask use, and will where new bunny suits for every visit. Plus, the accommodations will be much larger than any ship. Even a tiny 1 bdr apartment in Texas will be 3-5 larger than a ship cabin and almost always have a balcony.

Sure, Japanese authorities could just sit back and tell the cruise line owners to handle it, but what would be easier? Get the foreign authorities involved, let them handle details like leasing buses, arranging for medical personnel for escorts, etc, or do it themselves where they already have all those assets in place?

When it's on a ship, does the country of the ship not have some responsibility? Honest question, as I don't know the legal details. But I understand my own country, the UK, is where part-ownership is assigned, and we don't seem to have done much to help.

Because it's a Japanese health issue on Japanese soil and the Japanese military is most likely already involved in the situation.

US took their citizens because they couldn't trust the Japanese government, look at the infection rate, look at the people who are not tested yet, over 2000 left.
Don't try to cover up for the Japanese government, 99 get infected again yesterday. I want to see what they do next, Japanese government,
those 14 U.S citizens were isolated in the plane, U.S is not Japan, they don't let infected walk off the airport .....

It really was a floating petri dish.

Would have stayed on the boat. The transmission from the bathroom and close quarters transit of the bus and then the plane are all things to have been avoided. It's unfortunately correct that they all now have another 14 day quarantine.
at least on the boat they could manage their own interactions and get great food. If I had free wifi room and board for a month I'd be happy to stay. It's also more likely that for the passengers their quarantine will end sooner than those on the bases

Why didn't US troops in Japan do that? Afraid of virus I guess.

@Caliboy
It's just random banter from exhausted people, not an official statement.

Corona virus have very strong infection but its mortality is very low unlike SARS. They all will recover soon.

"We are glad to be going home,” Cheryl Molesky earlier told NHK TV in Japan. “It’s just a little bit disappointing that we’ll have to go through quarantine again, and we will probably not be as comfortable as the Diamond Princess, possibly.”
and
Well, we're exhausted, but we're on the plane and that's a good feeling. Pretty miserable wearing these masks though, and everybody had to go to the bathroom on the bus,”
Oh poor baby, won't be as comfortable as the Diamond Princess and you have to wear a mask.
Two Japanese tested positive and hundreds of Japanese health care workers put their lives on the line trying to help you and your people, and you worry about being comfortable?

The article failed to mention that along with those 14, an additional 85 also tested positive for the virus today (Monday) on that boat.
Thats 454 total, or about 1 in 8 people on the boat.
Oh yeah, another 6 or so also tested positive on land too.

Letting them on the flight after their positive tests came back... I'm not sure how I would feel about that if I were another passenger on that plane.
