the killer was Japanese... just sayin'

yes it seems ridiculous but believe it or not, there aren't many international flights into haneda these days (some cold going around...) 99% of flights are domestic and so I'm not sure but I think the percived threat is from internal sources and not your anime doll collectors from afar.

The last most recent attack in Tokyo was by Aum (all Japanese) then in the seventies an attack on the Mitsubishi company (by left wing Japanese)

The Japanese translator of the Satanic Verses was no doubt murdered by an Islamist in all probability.

These events are in the main confined to Japanese perpetrators and are historically far apart and unconnected.

It is said that Japan is at risk of Islamic terror due to it being an ally of the USA.

Really?

Japan has no standing army involved abroad, engaged in battle, thus there seems to be little reason to fear any attack.

It is extremely difficult to reconcile the massive concentration of police for Abe’s funeral.

Local police force, K-9 unit and 2-wheeled robocop descend on Haneda after tourist escapes guided tour.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

In Japan, foreign = danger.

-3 ( +7 / -10 )

Keystone cops at work....move along...

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

True. At SFO they use mountain bikes so at least the officers get a light workout.

I can't help but feel that using segways is unnecessary.

So Abe gets killed because of his ties to the Unification Church, which opens a can of worms for political figures in Japan. And they send the police to an airport to keep a look out for terrorists? The church caused all this, send them there.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Last time I checked the terrorist that killed Abe is a local.

Japanese police officer riding a Segway: Stop!

Mythical terrorist: Oh, no! It’s a cop on a Segway. Let’s walk a bit faster!”

-2 ( +7 / -9 )

Your tax money at work inspecting an empty terminal with with a whole squad.

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

Yes! Let's do this. Hire even more cops, more security and why stop at 1.6 billion yen? Let's take it to 2 billions coz Why not?

-4 ( +6 / -10 )

Perhaps the Japanese police have wind of something and they are showing a threat of force to circumvent it. There are times win the police have to do a job without telling those unless they have a "NEED TO KNOW" and if you don't have the clearances to know "CERTAIN THINGS" those in control will not tell you because people will PANIC.

Wrong terminal… Japan has only suffered terrorist attacks from other Japanese, and Abe’s murderer was also Japanese.

Should be doing this to ever Shinkansen, bus and expressway vehicle in and out of the Tokyo metropolitan region if they seriously think a terroirs attack may happen.

But they don’t… use this as an excuse to keep blocking foreign tourists etc, at the tax payers expense.

Does the guy on a Segway know it can’t go as fast as a person sprinting? So what good is it?

-5 ( +10 / -15 )

Wow look at all those tourists cramming to get into the Nth Korea tours…

-5 ( +6 / -11 )

You've heard of "too little too late".... this is "too much too late".

-1 ( +8 / -9 )

So that's why the security costs for the funeral are so expensive. The fleet of segways.

-1 ( +8 / -9 )

Is this gonna take place, non stop for two weeks?

will they move closer each day?

today inside the airport, tomorrow outside?

the next day on the limousine buses to the city?

is this the most these cops have worked in the last 5 years?

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

Oh the irony.

Bump up police security because they failed to protect Abe in the first place, which was the cause of this funeral.

I wonder if the Japanese government and police force understands this concept?

-5 ( +8 / -13 )

Why is the dog, sniffing around the machines at the DEPARTURE check ins?

Aren’t they supposed to be around humans, sniffing their baggage, at the arrivals gates, coming in to the country?

-3 ( +7 / -10 )

Really serious stuff

Accompanied by two dogs

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

Pure J-cosplay theater, to justify police budgets, impress gullible first-time foreign visitors, and stifle criticism of a totally unecessary egregiously expensive public event by scaring the population and shifting the blame onto that nebulous concept known as 'terrorism'.

0 ( +15 / -15 )

The police look so cool and totally deserving of taxpayer expense patrolling the airport self-service check in machines with German Shepherds and new police labelled Segways.

-6 ( +7 / -13 )

brings to mind the 'escaped zebras' and nets in Ueno Park....

1 ( +9 / -8 )

Was this accounted for in the 1.6 billion yen budget announcement?

6 ( +10 / -4 )

All for show of course.

This. Yep. All for show. And using obsolete segways (so early 2000s). What image is this supposed to project ? One of being technically with it? Might as well pull out the fax machines

-6 ( +9 / -15 )

OK, here we go;

and not just at the airport; around Tokyo too; advice: better start carrying your zairyu cards with you, folks. (Don’t worry) They (the J-police) like to pretend they’re competent and intimidating but they’re puppies that just wanna look good in front of the cameras.

-4 ( +9 / -13 )

All for show of course.

1 ( +14 / -13 )

What a joke !

Hardly no tourists, and no one cares about Abe who was a former PM, not the incumbent PM.

1 ( +14 / -13 )

Nothing scares me except for the pup.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Surely the patrols should be increased near the funeral venue in Tokyo?

12 ( +15 / -3 )

Why, Harris security is probably, better than the Prime Minister

-14 ( +2 / -16 )

Haha yeah as others mentioned about the perp was a Japanese dude. As if some gaijin is gonna get involved and cause some kind of commotion! And anyway gaijin can't even get into Japan. Wt

1 ( +15 / -14 )

Why, they worried someone might try and assassinate him?

Or some weird foreigner might come in to protest his funeral? Carrying a banner thru customes?

5 ( +18 / -13 )

I can't help but feel that using segways is unnecessary.

13 ( +22 / -9 )

All totally unnecessary, ex Prime Minister Abe is not deserving of a "state funded" party political send off. The majority of Japanese agree with me.

5 ( +20 / -15 )

ramp up the fear-factor boys, get the people cowering....

6 ( +21 / -15 )

is the funeral at the airport? Japan makes absolutely no sense sometimes....
