In the photo, the group being attacked should scatter in all directions not behaving like rabbits in a car headlight.

Hilarious photo. The lone woman takes down the shooter while the dudes huddle, some with their hands on their heads. Too funny..

Where's the person dressed in the zebra or giraffe costume running amok?

Not realistic without him/her.

Why don't these global grifters just hold their events on a cruise ship or on an island instead, negating most of the security issues and preventing the waste of taxpayers' money on their security?

Well, because they want to rub it in our faces. These events are nothing but a show of power at our expense.

every confab in Japan, they hold one of this artificial and whacky photo ops as if to assure the public, and the Japanese media duly records them and makes them front and center of the day's news.

Don't mess with Japanese lady cops! They may be 50kg, but you'd be surprised at who they can take down...

The FBI guy on YouTube talking about how Abe's security team failed so badly is worth a watch.

4 ( +14 / -10 )

Not someone has hijacked the fax machine, or stolen the USB drive?

That would be tech - J-style.

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

Potential terrorists are going to dress up recruit style as to not stick out.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Yes, very unrealistic. If he’s the only gun armed person, he can hold the whole security team in chess. Everyone very close to him, that is also dangerous, if he has explosives or something else, a bottle with acid etc for example. Then they are all temporarily out of service. Well, it’s only a stage play, isn’t it? The truth is very much different and unpredictable, not following those training scenarios at all.

Jeepers. Take off the face paper when you are outdoors, as it does nothing. I long to see people's entire faces again.

5 ( +13 / -8 )

This is the same mob that were to protect Ade. Good luck team you are going to need it.

Security team: Sir, we're under attack

Company being attacked: What!? How? We just held our most intuitive drill on this topic the other day!

Fax machine: Beeps

The photo looks like they are trying to re-create the Abe assassination and are doing what should have happened, and of course with a female taking the lead role. Instead, they should have snipers on the roof tops and armed guards protecting the likes of Trudeau, who want to do away with handguns unless they are for protecting his own authoritarianism.

Just making it easier to the killer.

The killer will have plenty of time and better view on the target if everyone kneels down.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

That’s for the PR.

Nothing will happen as the summit is over secured. The main risk would be a missile from some neighboring countries

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Tha bag is going to have a tough time in detention.

The Japanese politicos need to be proactive re their security and that means wearing protective vests during speeches ….all year round!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Is that guy on the left going to handbag him?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I hope it's a little more realistic than the "catch the zebra" drills. Honestly, they plan these things out too much. I don't mean make plans for potential attacks, I mean they plan as though they know everything an attacker (or rampant zebra) would do, and as such panic when it does not go the way they thought. Look at Abe's assassination -- they literally just stood there after the first shot in a daze! They need to hold drills but not tell the participants what is going to happen.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

My sympathies to the people of Hiroshima who will have to deal with the heightened security. When they had the APEC conference in Yokohama it was pretty awful.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I’m surprised the attacker isn’t wearing a blonde wig as obviously no Japanese person would do anything wrong…..

keystone cops much??

1 ( +8 / -7 )

The masks hide them from the embarrassment.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

Looks like a modern Caravaggio or Hieronymus Bosch.

These drills seem pretty useless to me. They couldn't protect former PM abe when it mattered most. All just for show. And just what is that miserable looking foldable briefcase supposed to do? Protect with the little surface it has? I remember they used one too when abe got shot, and it looked absolutely laughable, like a little school kid with a plastic sword.

Police and over 100 technology firms commenced a drill Monday to counter ransomware cyberattacks

I love how from the photo it seems they think covering your head with your hands while one colleague hits a guy and another tries to put a suitcase on him is the normal response to a ransomware cyberattack.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

@Kumagaijin I am glad you are not part of the security detail. Remember this is just a "DRILL" and you are saying they should have snipers on the roof. What picture are you looking at? I don't see any roof tops!! Since when did "TREES" become roof tops! Oh I get it, they should be in the trees!! Oh wait the car roof tops!

First the photo makes me think of the Paul McCartney and wings album cover for Band on the run.

The interesting thing in Japan is those silly fold out briefcase knife/bullet proof shields.

The reasoning in most high value protection is to bunch together behind the security guys with these shields as the other security Rush the assailants now this is not unique to Japan but those fake briefcase shields are sort of a Japanese thing.

In most western countries the security are often wearing bullet proof vest and will literally used their bodies as shields.

But in this photo it looks very strange that so few security for so many people and it is a bit of a joke photo.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

To those mocking the "bag" guy, ... I think that's a "ballistic suitcase", basically a portable bullet proof shield.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Yeah.. wow.. that photo. Yikes

4 ( +4 / -0 )

That photo looks embarrassing for everyone involved.

That photo looks embarrassing for everyone involved.

Why would preparing for your work in a way that might save lives be embarrassing?

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

What's with the two open hands on the head??

3 ( +3 / -0 )

That little suitcase thing is silly - we see people with bullet-proof vests get knocked off their feet but Japan believes holding up a flimsy suitcase is proper?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

That photo is beyond silly, as many commentators have said. It's beyond that. It's contrived foolishness. That many people near one potential terrorist/assassin would never happen, unless the aggressor wore a bomb vest, as happens too often. Then, the carnage would be real. But this fake situation is for the domestic Japanese audience, and nothing but a play-acting scenario, like a lot of Japanese newscasts. Or cooking shows, for that matter. Just garbage sensationalism.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

... we see people with bullet-proof vests get knocked off their feet

Thankfully, bullets in japan are mostly delivered by postal envelopes but such a suitcase may come in handy anyways if somebody would attempt to attack with their 6cm long knife blade.

He's got a USB stick! The photo is comical.

Crouching paper Tigers,Biden security detail is probably more equip than these wannabe

Is that guy on the left going to handbag him?

LOL. Might have a brick in it, worked for my aunt.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Let's hope they do better than when they were "protecting" Abe.......

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Why would preparing for your work in a way that might save lives be embarrassing?

They are saving no one's life with whatever they are preparing.

I mean what is it?

It's 30 people crouching for some reason.

A crowd like that in such a situation is not ducking and screaming in real life. They would be running away, saving their own lives.

You have the one guy with the briefcase shield, instead of putting a bullet proof vest on the dignitary. I mean, either that or he is trying to block the sunlight from the pigment challenged person ducking?

You have the "dignitary" I guess? Or the "mark" being protected? I'm not really sure. I mean why would the target be running or crouching TOWARDS the attempted killer? Shouldn't they be running AWAY from the killer?

You have the "shooter" I guess? And he's facing AWAY from his target. Why? And why would a shooter come up running point blank on his target? You would think he would be at a distance, with some kind of a shot skill set. I mean it isn't going to happen EXACTLY like how Abe was shot at.

Do they think the exact same situation will happen in Hiroshima? Highly unlikely.

and last, you have about 50 men in the picture. Only one woman. And it just so happens, that one woman is in charge with de-arming the perp? I'm not saying a woman can't do it, but why would you appoint her as the main stopper?

For a fake PR photo opp of course. They want to show women "are equal" yet the pic has a 1:50 female to male ratio. I don't think that's how it works...........

So you may call this their "work" but I call it an embarrassing waste of time for all involved.

Basically, I'm saying that for Abe's event, they were unprepared and didn't have any snipers and so hopefully for G7 in Hiroshima, they have a sniper team and don't just depend on undercover guards with briefcases. I assume there will be taller buildings in the places the G7 leaders will be meeting in. Seems like my comment got you triggered though. lol

That is the main enemy in G7 summits. Cyberattacks by anybody can/will/do screw up the whole event and situation. That and the anarchists. During the G7 summit in Toronto there were demonstrators down on Yonge Street, then a wave of anarchist cheerleaders dressed in black arrived, singing anarchist songs. Then came a phalanx of anarchist men, dressed like ninjas. One of them picked up a trash can then all hell broke loose. Window smashing, the cops had to exit their cruiser to avoid a Molotov and the riot was on.

That picture above is such a joke compared to what security really has to deal with.
