I'm very impressed by how relaxed and informal the press conference seems to have been.

If only the emperor had a male heir to succeed him.

Seems she needs to become "productive" soon for the royal line to continue.

I wish her the best. Born into a very difficult situation, forced to wear 1950s clothing with pearls more suited to another age.

She looked very professional. I hope she continues. More power to her.

I was both surprised and impressed about how well she came across after the press have lambasted her for 10+ years. Good luck to her.

Put her in the succession line. Princess Aiko deserves throne on logical and historical ground.

Why bother having a conference? She's going to be chucked out of the family and made a commoner once she gets married.

If only the emperor had a male heir to succeed him.

He does. His name is Prince Hisahito of Akishino.

She should be next in line and be Empress Aiko

awomde

She should be next in line and be Empress Aiko

A recent poll shows that majority of Japanese people support the idea of female throne.

According to the NHK poll, 87% support it and only 12% oppose it.

Good !

I hope she becomes Empress of Japan.

Her grandfather and father never hurt anyone and have acted with great integrity. They had no choice in the family they were born into, but accepted their role with sincerity.

Must be a typo because there's no such thing as female emperors.

Empress is what they are called.

Everytime they mention Hirohito 124th emperor i feel sad about what happened during the showa era .

Why it's necessary to mention Hirohito and the Ukraine crisis in the same article is not a welcome reminder of war crimes.

Sorry but it's really not appropriate .

Quoting her father's birthday remark in February, Aiko said she hoped exchanges between people will overcome national and regional borders and lead to a peaceful world where people tolerate differences.

hope she's not holding her breath....

According to the NHK poll, 87% support it and only 12% oppose it.

But the 12% opposed are all the old men who make the decisions.
