Let's be happy this didn't happen in Saudi Arabia or the female victim may be punished. What a disgusting country Saudi Arabia is.

Pretty much concur. The men treat their women like possessions under the pretence of religion but spend a heap on money on prostitutes away from home. This idiot should have just paid for sex like most others do.

dont understand what's the point of this news ?

If he is a Saudi Arabian official, he is most likely related to the Saudi royal family, and will get away with a slap on the wrist.

Knowing the Japanese legal system, he will get charged with attempted rape.

Will there be an out of court settlement?

Didn't Abe recently meet with the Saudi prince? 'Swept under the rug' comes to mind.

Now, we know the Taliban would stone a woman to death for even being seen through her own house window, and Saudi Arabia isn't terribly different in terms of beliefs of how women should behave, so how about a man sexually assaulting a woman? I'm going to guess that nothing will come of this "extremely regrettable" situation, especially with how much Abe is licking Trump's boots while he sucks up to the Saudi Prince.

A hug? Come on people, seriously? Japanese women are getting groped and assaulted on the trains everyday, and a hug makes news as an 'unwanted advance?'

Looks like this #metoo nonsense is infecting Japan for the worse.

Clearly the woman felt she was assaulted.

Read that a Saudi woman was sentenced to 2 yrs in jail for hugging a man on stage in 2018.

Japan can block his entry for 5 yrs (or life) if they want and deport him immediately.

Oldman_13.

Touching/hugging a worker in a hotel so much so that the person said something about it, yes its serious.

In this case #metoo all the way.

and rightly so.. sadly some people don't respect others space.

The hotel's not named here, but I'm guessing even in Tokyo there's only a few of them that are considered "worthy" enough of hosting an official Saudi delegate. Hopefully now word will get out and staff at this hotel [or other hotels of similar status] will take additional discreet precautions to protect their staff.

What a disgusting country Saudi Arabia is.

Well then mark it off your bucket list of places to visit. I love it when people generalize. I suspect most Saudis would not "hug" a woman they do not know - yes there is probably more to the story. Japan has a certain culture and so does Saudi Arabia. You should certainly do your best to respect that country's culture and traditions that you are in. I love Japan, but why do they have certain sections on trains for women?

Yes "hugging" a woman without her consent is basically sexual assault and the same goes for gropers.

What if it was your wife ?

This official needs to be deported to his home country ASAP, we need to send a strong message this kind of behavior is not accepted in Japan.

That's a blanket statement. Depending on the nature behind the hug, it can be an emotional assault, and entirely wrong, or it can be a social faux-pas, and something that should be spoken about. In the latter case, calling a sexual assault is just going overboard and does no favors to anyone.

Let's try not to fix one problem by going to the opposite extreme.

Clearly the victim did not see it that way and considering Saudi Arabia's track record concerning woman's rights I highly doubt his intentions were innocent.

You do not touch a woman without her consent, it is really that simple.

There is absolutely no reason for any guest, be them male or female, to hug a staff member - unless they are related by blood, friends, or romantically involved. The staff member wasn't walking around with a FREE HUGS sign hanging from her neck. And even if Saudi Arabia was known as a feel good, friendly, hugging utopia (which it is not), it would take a complete fool of a person to think that would be something you can spread to strangers in other countries.

The same people here who say "wow, it's just a hug" are the same who would later blame the worker for not reporting it, continuing with her duties, and getting summoned to the room under false pretenses and raped.

Hotel staff, especially cleaning staff are particularly vulnerable. There is NEVER a case to be trying to touch them.

I suspect "hugged" is a euphemism here.
