Most commercial eggs already contain medicines - they're called antibiotics.
One of the many reasons we keep our own chickens.

No thank you.

somehow i think it's not the cost of producing those medicine that are high. it's those ridiculous profit margins pharmaceutical companies want to make, if the researchers are SELLING the hens to pharmaceutical companies, i don't think the price are coming down.
see what Martin Shkreli is doing to Daraprim, Thiola. I wonder why the governments are allowing those ridiculous price hike. $13.50 to %750 per pill overnight? that's daylight robbery.

This technology could prove to be quite literally, a golden egg.

Wow, what could possibly go wrong with this idea?

This is true, unless your product is Viagra and the Ministry of Health and Welfare screening committee is full of oyaji. Six months was all it took.

The technology of hens that could produce many different drugs for a range of diseases, from Parkinson's to diabetes and other types of cancer has been around for 10 or 20 years, at least in the US and Europe, so I do hope the promise is starting to be fulfilled....finally.

Americans have pumped in so many drugs into themselves that they need to pump-in even more into themselves in order to fight the new drug resistant batches, and so on and so on.
This news story is very worrying... just imagine, pumping into the eggs (or another product), and addictive product that needs you to buy more of the same product, this would be a Marketers delight, as you become instantly hooked upon their product rather than the competitions... so where does this all end ?
Look to Sci-Fi stories if you wish to have a clue.

Medicines which are untested, unproven, do not work, and contain toxins.

Disgusting that these things take years. It should be much much faster.
