Security in Tokyo tightened ahead of Trump visit

Police have launched tight security measures in the capital ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump’s first visit to Japan since his inauguration, scheduled for Nov 5-7.

The area under special security control includes Marunouchi, Otemachi, Yurakucho, Aoyama and Akasaka in Chiyoda and Minato wards.

Public trash cans in populated areas such as major train stations in the capital will be temporarily removed, with the sole exception of transparent plastic bags in some locations. Coin lockers will also be closed for public use during Trump’s three-day trip.

Other precaution measures include the suspension of construction work on rooftops in buildings in all targeted areas and an increased patrol, Sankei Shimbun reported.

The National Police Agency has mobilized 21,000 officers for security -- 18,000 from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and 3,000 from Saitama, the largest number ever deployed for a U.S. presidential visit to Tokyo, NHK reported.

A man in his 20s commented that not being able to use lockers and trash cans is “very inconvenient,” but understandable in terms of preventing terrorism.

Trump will arrive on Sunday morning and play golf with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and pro Hideki Matsuyama at Kasumigaseki Country Club in Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture.

Abe and Trump will hold talks in Tokyo on Monday. After that, the U.S. president will meet with relatives of Japanese nationals abducted by North Korea. Later Monday, he and his wife Melania will meet Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko. Trump will leave Japan on Tuesday.

Separately, Trump's daughter Ivanka, assistant to her father, arrived in Tokyo on Thursday to attend an international symposium on women's empowerment on Friday and then have dinner with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe that evening, according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

I'm willing to bet that's ALL either of these 2 DEADBEATS are going to do

at Kasumigaseki Country Club in Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture.

So does that mean that they are also going to have invasive security in saitama too?

Abe and Trump will hold talks in Tokyo on Monday.

About the golf game that they played no doubt.

After that, the U.S. president will meet Emperor Akihito. He will leave Japan on Tuesday.

Just after the poor man got done meeting Duterte he's going to have to meet Trump too?? What are they trying to do, kill the old man so that he doesn't abdicate??

Separately, Trump's daughter Ivanka, assistant to her father, arrives in Tokyo later Thursday to attend an international symposium on women's empowerment on Friday.

Ivanka, may I suggest you first have a look at the Abe cabinet?

You might want to pick another venue dear. Oh wait, Daddy is playing golf with Uncle Shin, isn't he? Never mind sweetie. Carry on.

@towing

I doubt very much your average copper thinks any more about the job than you or me.

Turn up, clock in, fight the boredom, clock out and go home. Pick up the pay cheque and avoid trouble.

We’re all pretty much the same, deep down.

Trump should win against Abe because he's been practicing golf basically every weekend since he became POTUS.

Better to stay out of Tokyo on those days. This gives the police more sorry of an excuse for their unsolicited search.

Don't care I do live in Tokyo(prefecture not City).

Maybe she can bring along some female workers from her textile factories in China ?

After that, the U.S. president will meet Emperor Akihito.

I will go to my local shrine and pray for his health ( the Emperor, not Trump).

He will leave Japan on Tuesday.

Can't wait.

A person who has inherited wealth and got their job through nepotism is in no position to be lecturing others about empowerment.

It's disgusting she was invited to do this.

Just watched footage of her arrival.

Kasumigaseki Country Club is the one that almost lost its status as an Olympic venue because it refused to give equal playing rights to female members.

Seems oddly fitting...

It's like we passed through some invisible portal and entered a universe where everything is made of irony.

@Alfie

Yep.

“Devilry and irony, live together in perfect harmony....”

6 ( +10 / -4 )

As I said no impact to me and others as we live outside the 23wards aka western Tokyo.

Terrorism in Japan?

From where?

Which groups?

There arent any !

Its just a big expensive show!

0 ( +6 / -6 )

And that was how different in history and outside Japan?

You secure for all possible events/occurrences, Kennedy might have survived.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Pope might have not been shot, WWI averted.

Take security lightly and bad things happen.

Just arrived at Haneda and saw more police than usual. One officer standing outside UNIQLO gave me a pretty stern look.

Good to see law enforcement doing their jobs at the airport. Just hope none of them get stressed out with the overtime.

Why would anyone want to meet trump? I thought people wanted diplomacy.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Of course Don will win.

He's well known for his surprising good lies in the rough and exceptionally long "gummies"

the only better player was Kim Jong Il. A born natural despite his short stature and small hands.

Not one positive comment about it being a good thing that the leaders of the USA and Japan can meet up Wouldnt want them to get together as world leaders on some common goals and see what can be done to help both countries prosper and be safe.

Being world leaders comes with some perks we don’t get and some security requirements, not a big deal for us.

Yes. Good little sheep. The authorities are doing their utmost to prevent a terrorist attack on Trump’s subway commute.

plasticmonkey - you're absolutely right. A entitled bloated plutocrat who has never set foot on public transport in his life gets to inconvenience 30 million worker bees because the magic word "terrorism" is invoked.

I was most heartened to see in Kita Senju station this evening a huge pile of empty tins and wrappers carefully stacked around the sealed-off transparent terrorism-proof rubbish bins. They may take our bins, but they will never take our sneaky pre-wife One Cup Sake!

You guys are reallllly gonna hate the Olympics then.

President Trump, Please help make Japan great again!

6 ( +7 / -1 )

I like Ivanka's attire. Rainy season in Japan. Ivanka talks sweeter than her father. ;

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Why spend my money on protecting an IDIOT.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

Not your money unless you donated a coup' le billion yen to Tokyo metro police''s budget.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

USA never charged foreign counntries to protect its presidents and his family members in past...

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Stay away from Trump parade. American CIA is quick to shoot.
