Suga says shorter hours for bars, restaurants crucial in stemming coronavirus spread

Waiting for the logical explanation behind this measure that he considers crucial.

Wouldn’t other measures such as limiting seating capacity as bars and restaurants be more efficient?

This way the businesses would still run ensuring the economy does not stop, but more importantly the social distancing - this one indeed crucial -would also be guaranteed between costumers, reducing the risk of infections.

I keep seeing restaurants and bars packed - where the risk of infection is significantly high - and running at 100% capacity with no distancing whatsoever.

If this continues, not even closing restaurants at 7PM will rip any benefits.

Social distancing, financial assistance for those under quarantine, things that have worked elsewhere; that is not crucial. Koike found the magic bullet, just shorter hours for bars for a few weeks. Who would have thought that would be the way the spread of the virus would be stopped?

Perfectly clear and correct.

Keep pushing telework, financial assistance for those that need it....never going to happen when these go to campaigns are the government focuss or rather subside their friends with tax money.

No testing, no reporting, no questioning, the three no govt kills Japanese population.

I keep on walking past small Tokyo restaurants in residential areas and they are packed well before 10pm so closing early is not really going to do much and who ever came up with the idea of Goto Eat should be fired as they should have been pushing restraint and sensible social distancing not encouraging people to pack out restaurants . Only ways things will improve is with a vaccine so I hope the Japanese regulators will pass their aproval quickly.

Well, I have never heard anyone say, "Shorter is better!"

Make it long, or none at all!

The news, exactly one week ago:

"Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said Friday the government will continue its Go To Travel domestic tourism promotion campaign despite growing worries about a resurgence of the coronavirus in Japan."

Friday that shorter hours for bars and restasurants serving alcohol would be "crucial" in stemming the coronavirus spread

The thing that continues to baffle my mind with their insistence that bars and nightspots are to blame is that their own findings and research showed, from the surveys they took several months ago, that people were more likely infected between their commute to work/school, during the course of work/school, and finally during their commutes back home. Yet, they continue to want to focus solely on those establishments.

Suga says shorter hours for bars, restaurants crucial in stemming coronavirus spread

And yet the picture is of people working in an office building, guess they dont count to the government types!

Koike and Abe were also saying 3 days before the Olympics were postponed that it was going ahead as planned.

Reminds me of August 1945 and that Japan is still the "Topsy-Turvy Land" of yore.

And while Covid continues to put the world in a spin, like a dog chasing its tail, the Japanese government's opaque response is inscrutable. But very soon, as the shadow of pandemic grows, Suga will have to make the economy scream and we'll just have to suck it up until a vaccine kicks the virus into touch.

Does TRAINS and Buses ring an alarm to anyone???

Don't just blame and shame the bar and restaurants....Blame the public transportation for spreading the virus too.

The metropolitan government is believed to have increased the number of tests on Tuesday to account for the national holiday on Monday.

So it can be increased ? Then why has it not been increased all these months and why the change. So it was deliberately kept low.

Really pushing working from home would be better. This obsession with restaurant open hours is idiotic, when you have hundred of thousands of people piling on to the trains at peak times.

C-virus only lives in certain places at certain times.

It is crafty that way.

Doesn't matter what he says.

Tests need to be done 7 days a week, not just Mon-Fri. The virus is quite happy to keep working on weekends so humans, unfortunately, need to as well.

Suga also said trips departing from Osaka and Sapporo, in addition to those to either city, would be removed from the Go To Travel

Genius, Kobe, Ashiya, Nishinomiya, Amagasaki are just stone through to Osaka, what will stop someone from heading from there to Osaka or somebody in Osaka using family or friends hyogo address to book their travel.

Except Japan is not set up for it, when you have to hanko and fax, and not visible equals not working.

This is not an excuse. They can adapt for it if they made even the smallest effort. But like almost everything in Japan noone tries to change anything. I had to go to work to stamp the attendance book once a week back in April and May when i was working from home. It was absolutely ridiculous, and completely unnecessary. They new I was working from home. Sorry for the rant. Its just so stupid.
