another reminder to oneself that one should be aware of their physical condition before doing something physical.
Fighto!
With respect, she is too old for those stunts.
kurisupisu
This is what happens to those that do little physical activity in old age.
Hervé L'Eisa
I hope she recovers quickly (that's relative to her age) and contemplates her future activities more carefully.

Present Tokyo governor still continues to escape from own accountability such as falsifying career, unjust collusion with corporations, wasting taxes, slush fundraising, human rights violation to poverty people, unnecessary deforestation.

I've seen video and this was quite comical in a "the joys of being old" way. Koike was quite ambitious and actually lifted her knee like a real pitcher to get her bodyweight into the throw. Most teen idols just stand still and throw a mega loopy ball using their arm alone, which results in the ball barely reaching the plate.

This is Jingu Stadium's revenge for the upcoming demolition of this stadium and the surrounding greenery.

Ouch!!! Just watched that video and I can feel the pain. Getting old sucks. But it's all part of the ride.
I wish her a speed recovery.
GuruMick
She wasnt "match fit "....should have been dropped....
Sam Watters
Ouch! That was painful just watching it. Can’t imagine how bad that must have felt.
Almost Good
Walked off the field like a champ! Nice, Yuriko!
Maybe some Kasumigaseki dinosaurs could play a few minutes of pro-rugby.

She definitely did full send it for her age and physical condition.
It looks like the wobble on the slope of the mound was the culprit.
Then she laughed off the injury as she limped to the stands and gave a full address.
The human body is surprisingly robust, but also mind bogglingly frail.
A few years ago, an MLB player (forgot the name) broke 3 ribs while bending over to pick up a TV remote.
SendaiGirl
Oh dear!, she was not the proper shoes.
SendaiGirl
Better luck next time, you can throw out the ball in the New stadium at Meiji Jingu.
Jind
Sad, She twisted her leg upon landing.
Hope she recovers soon.

She isn't fit to run as a politician mentally or physically.
餓死鬼
She can probably be a politician. She probably shouldn’t become a baseball player.
shogun36
they should allow ALL of their workers do this.

Legend has it that the footballer Rio Ferdinand got a muscle injury from playing too much Pro Evo on the Playstation with his feet on a coffee table.

Get well soon Koike Sama..
Cephus
God's speed wishing quick recovery Gov Koike!.
Daniel Neagari
on the bright side... she can be called Gov. Yuriko "Bone-crusher" Koike
lostrune2
Folks gotta realize ya don't have to be on the mound to throw a ceremonial first pitch
Ya can throw it from the front of the mound

And it wasn’t even a strike.

Her sneakers let her down, if they had better grip, the avulsion fracture was avoidable.
owzer
Good thing she doesn't have to run for office this month!

I had a similar injury in my ankle-heel when I was in my late 20’s. So I can say that it does also happen to young people. And I was definitely not physically unfit at the time.
Basically, when a load bearing joint is hyperextended, the base of the tendon tears off the bone, taking a piece of the bone with it.
Without proper examination by Xray or CT it can be misdiagnosed as a sprain, which was almost my case.
DurraSell
Which, for anyone who has never thrown from a mound, is the best way to stay safe, and get the ball to the catcher without a bounce.
Pukey2
Well, that's one way to skive off work

@Beer, she didn’t bring the heat but she had good location and a nasty curve.

That must have hurt. / Take it easy, Yuriko Koike. 気をつけてね。

I guess she can go on IR injured reserve!!!

My son torn a knee ligament while just going after tennis balls. He has fully recovered after a month naturally.
I got my knee ligaments overstreched but that was after a ski fall on a black slope. Did go back all down the slope on one knee unaided. Recovered over a year naturally but could do every sports (marathon, badminton...) outside knee strong rotating like Koike did.
A fracture is severe and probably due to age.
I wish her a quick recovery and pretty sure she will never attempt that again, from experience.
Nibek32
Wow, she totally walked off the field smiling. Tough woman. She gave it her all. Respect.
