So if you are famous, because of a piece of art you created, gets sold at auction for over $1 million and then shreds itself right after it was sold, and paint some graffiti some where, it's ok?

Guess I better get working!

Will they try to arrest Banksy for vandalism, or is that only for non-famous vandals like the Australian?

I supposed if he covered an entire train car with fugly gangbang-looking 70's style graffiti instead of one small, unassuming, pic of a cute little animal, then they might.

I doubt very much if having travelled all the way over here that Banksy would only produce something that he has already done before. He'd have gone much, much bigger.

I heard this was painted as a prank by an aussie foreign exchange

I actually saw a very banksy looking art piece in Tokyo last weekend in another location. It could be a copycat. Even if it was, it still brought warm feelings of the many times I used to come across his/her masterpieces when living in London.

Authentic or not - it just shows how malleable and sheepish most people are when it comes to "following the famous".

The fact that an anonymously stencilled cartoon rat on a wall could cause so much "excitement", requires self-pinching to determine if I'm still cognizant

It has no intrinsic value outside of bringing a faint smile for a second or two.

Bansky and Co must be laughing at the fuss - whether he painted it or not.

Be better if someone had painted over it like the crack in The Great Glass.

It would have made it better.

He should have painted an animal more familiar to the streets of Japan like a crow digging through garbage.

@ Alfie, from what seen and read it is Del naja, even a very old interview of banksy from the 90 is on youtube with the face blurred out and the frame hairline and voice are too close to be ignored in my opinion, and the whole goldie thing just adds to it.

The shredded picture was a cracking prank.

How can the event organiser officially exhibit a "thought to be" work of a famous artist?

You can tell this was just a cut out that got spray-painted over

He's one of their friends, from the same background in Bristol by all accounts. Robin Gunningham, I think his name is.

Distasteful, sorry.

That's not a Banksy.

I'll prove it's easy to fake a Banksy. You'll see more of Banksy-inspired work, that will have been done during this Golden Week -- I've got enough free-time. Stay tuned..

Thats not how the laws are supposed to work.

unassuming, pic of a cute little animal,

That's double standards. Vandalism is vandalism.

Thanks for that. Is it Del Naja though? It certainly looks like him from the little you can see....
