In the absence of a competent leadership across much of the world, people have rightfully decided that they will have to judge the risks of living with Covid-19 for themselves. The reality is this virus is here to stay and we cannot hide in our homes for multiple years just to avoid the small chance of sickness and even smaller chance of death. Every day of your life is a calculated risk and Covid-19 is no different in that regard, it has just raised the risk level that we now have to accept as a baseline, but humans have dealt with this many times throughout our existence in the form of wars, plagues and natural disasters. Life will go on and so will your life if you accept this new reality.

Hey AP, why don't you publish some numbers with your statements. Yesterday, Tokyo had 487 cases, I wonder if people would consider that high?

Lots of people are out and about. If anything, these measures have served to concentrate more people into less space in less of a time window.

No, I neither have to accept that ‘reality’ nor does the life go on for the already 3mio. dead and about half of the current intensive care patients. Instead I demand an extinguishing lockdown to end that problem once and for all and in addition all information about what the gain-in-function manipulations at that Wuhan laboratory and/ or other classified places look like, what in detail has been done, which additional back-engineering manipulations have been made to only let it look like a what you call natural disaster we humans shall get used to. This ‘new reality’ is artificial and therefore in principle reversible at any time.

Young people need to go out and enjoy this period.

Covid does not affect them.

As expected, if the government base their solutions on measures that cost people their means of living while giving no adequate support nor punishment for those who do as they like the only possible result is that people will not do as they are asked.

My local Izakaya closed so did most in my area along with most Kisatens following the instructions.

But despite the owners and workers concerns about catching or spreading the virus, they have no choice.

The owner of one told me he is still waiting for payment from the first SOE, and has reached the maximum ¥600,000 limit the government will pay small businesses like his to remain closed ( I don't know the rules so am taking his and the others word on the maximum payment by the government).

The payments don't even cover rent, expenses, etc... Even less providing them with any sort of income.

So despite everything, they are now open again out of sheer desperation.

Are they worried? Yes! Are they confident in the information by the government on infection rates? No, not one!

But they have no choice at this point.

My own business has been closed to the public since the start and at this point I cannot keep it up, because I was building a new location and new services when the pandemic started and was not open before the pandemic so I do not qualify for aid, so unless online business suddenly surges, I am going to have to open my rental space/studio and resume workshops.

The government wants businesses to remain closed but then I receive today more tax bills, health insurance bills and pension payment requests, where do they expect I am going to get that money from?

The only way to impose a stricter lockdown would be to actually fully support financially the businesses and employees and I mean FULLY support.

The only way to cancel the Olympics it to pay or go to court and fight paying the losses to the IOC and broadcasting corporations

That's a pretty charitable assessment ;-)

With a few exceptions such as Florida and Texas, leadership has been downright dishonest and manipulative. No wonder people here in Japan are getting out an about. Most know there is very little risk of getting sick or dying. from this virus, especially if you're under 70 and reasonably healthy. The usually suspects will disagree, but that's just par for the course.

Government doesn’t cancel Olympic Games, where thousands of people from more than 150 different countries will be arriving, basically with no quarantine restrictions.

What do you expect young people to do with all this mixed messages and contradiction?

18 months of nonsense. People are getting sick and tired . And it’s not with a Covid virus.

This ‘new reality’ is artificial and therefore in principle reversible at any time.

That "new normal" message was pumped out ad nauseam right from the early days of this pandemic, with many of us recognising the phrase for what it is: psychological manipulation to prepare the public for a series of lockdowns, masks mandates and constant fear. And whaddayaknow? 15 months later there's constant fear-mongering about this variant and that variant, and vaccine passports. Many can't even leave their own country while a lucky few get to join an overpriced sports festival that few in the host country even want.

What else would you expect from a country whose leaders consider the situation 'not very serious' and are planning to hold an international festival?

But everyone is masked, if not social distancing.

I remember being young and indestructible, the rough sports, broken bones, the pneumonia I ignored until it was almost to late because "hey I'm 21 and it will pass".

Now in my late 50s all those broken bones and the lung damage from the pneumonia come back to haunt me on cold and humid mights or hot humid days ( that would be the lung damage).

The silly mistake we make when young can have long term consequences.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

Unfortunately, the Japanese government would rather promote a false image to the world instead of facing reality.

The result is that the people of Japan are suffering

Although life in Japan has many benefits-

there are downsides.

Not only the myriad disasters that occur but the arbitrary use or non use of rules to benefit the ruling authorities.

Due to this, I have never been able to fully invest in Japan and have always kept sources of income outside the country., I suggest you do the same.

If only Japan would join countries like Mexico, Peru, India and South Africa and make Ivermectin widely available, then we can all stop worrying and move on, pandemic over.

The Japanese people are acting like that! And they're calling to cancel the Olympics, what a bunch of hypocrites. And this idea of having shorter hours in bar's and restaurants is ridiculous. Either have 50% indoor dining or outdoor patios. Because if you have packed bar's and restaurants and then they get on packed trains, covid 19 will spread around Japan as fast as the trains will take it.

Japan has never enforced a hard coronavirus lockdown but has managed to keep its number of illnesses and deaths lower than many advanced countries.

Why "but"? There is no demonstrated connection between these artificial policy measures and the Corona infection. It is only bureacrats who refuse to accept that they make up rules at random.

Good on them! The chances of dying from corona are about the same as the flu if you are young and healthy basically zero! This fear and paranoia has to stop. There were usually 3 million deaths a year from influenza and pneumonia related illnesses according to WHO statistics but as Influenza deaths weren't tracked as closely as Corona comparisons look to make Corona more dangerous when that is not the case. This is just another heavy influenza like virus. The mental anguish brought about by the fear mongers and witch hunters is unacceptable. Most people aside from the hypochondriacs have had enough! Time to move on and get back to normal. Those at high risk can access the vaccine along with the hypochondriacs, others should be able to decide based on evidence which suggests there is basically zero chance of death from this virus if you are under 70 and have no secondary illnesses.

It's either too dangerous (it's not) and we should all stop cramming onto the trains and trudging into work, or it's not and we should be allowed to make our own assessment of whether we want to drink and eat out.

Eating and drinking out isn't the problem, the problem is cramming onto bloody trains and working in cramped, poorly ventilated offices..........AND the sluggish vaccine roll out

Yep, it is OK to destroy the economy and peoples lives in order to "protect" us from a virus with an infection mortality of 0.2. And politicians never worry about money; they guarantee their own income.
