Tokyo reports 1,876 coronavirus cases; nationwide tally 16,813

The Tokyo metropolitan government on Thursday reported 1,876 new coronavirus cases, down 59 from Wednesday and down 459 from last Thursday.

The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo is two, down one from Wednesday, health officials said. The nationwide figure is 77, down two from Wednesday.

Nationwide, the number of reported cases was 16,813. After Tokyo, the prefectures with the most cases were Osaka (1,419), Okinawa (1,353), Hokkaido (992), Aichi (967), Fukuoka (859), Hyogo (700), Kanagawa (699), Saitama (624), Hiroshima (553), Chiba (483), Kagoshima (405), Kumamoto (374), Shizuoka (350), Gifu (327), Okayama (305), Kyoto (298), Miyagi (270), Nagasaki (234), Ibaraki (219), Ishikawa (208), Aomori (198), Miyazaki (197), Yamaguchi (196), Nagano (195) and Ehime (168).

The number of coronavirus-related deaths reported nationwide was 23.

Uh oh, it's starting to go up again. Relaxing the mask requirement had an obvious effect.

Okinawa numbers are not going down. This figure gives better insight as to the actual number of infected throughout Japan.
