The real number of infections would be scary....

Not if they don't result in severe disease or death.

Erm, record number of deaths today, number of seriously ill and hospitalized the highest since September….

It is scary.

The real number of infections would be scary....

No, it is comforting.

It would reflect what this and has always been. As serious as the flu. Less so for younger people.

As for the 319 unfortunate souls who died in the last 24 hrs, anyone want to take a guess as to the avg age and co-morbidities?

It’s time to change the law , enact and enforce all these so called restrictions people have been whining about . I don’t know what country they keep referring to but it isn’t Japan . We have had near zero restrictions. Closing the borders was basically the same thing every country did . Although way too long here. But other than that, we’ve been living restriction and mandate free for 2 straight years and we’re no where near getting this under control. I don’t wanna hear any whining about what other countries have or haven’t done . This is Japan and Omicron is outta control and the DEADLIEST variant of all variants in JAPAN. Another new record today . RIP. In the meantime, the jgov needs to lock the whole thing down right now . April 1st starts the new business year and school year here. Take the time and get people boosted. Allow the millions currently infected recover. Let the healthcare system recover as well . Hospitals, countrywide are stretched to their limits and having to send too many people to a hotel or worse home who should otherwise be hospitalized.

Looking good to keep having to work from home for another several months, and to continue to travel without the crowds.

Rest in Peace to the 319 people who passed away.

The change in numbers is just because of the daily change in PCR test counts or real impact of government guidelines?

*Exactly what does the border have to do with COVID? I can't understand why some people here constantly talk about this issue…. As far as I can tell it's just straight up virtue signaling; looking for an excuse to criticize Japan when there are far more legitimate issues that actually have an impact on real people's lives*

Have you been in a cave for the last two years? The government closed the border precisely as a COVID prevention measure. These travel restrictions prevent travel of all sorts and are now out of step with the health risk. It is not “virtue signaling” or an excuse to criticize Japan, it impacts a lot of personal lives and businesses (you even lost a lot of examples!) and people are equally frustrated with other countries with similar restrictions.

Just because there are other legitimate issues that impact people’s lives more is irrelevant. It is absurd to suggest you cannot be critical of one issue just because there are other issues.

How many Japanese people are outraged about the border like you lot?

There are indeed a lot of Japanese people calling for the restrictions to be lifted/loosened. I don’t have an exact number! An example was reported here just today from the Japan Business Federation.

closed border is giving me the… a flight home is 18 man! Qantas and Jetstar won’t be back till late 2022. Glad I didn’t trust’em till I saw one of their planes land here.

Maybe this is also a result of those who got their booster shots.

at 20% and rising very slowly, so no.

Its the result of Omicron. Exactly like every other country in the world.

These infection numbers continue to be pretty meaningless. Look at the number of serious cases and deaths for a better gauge of the situation.

As such, there is no continuity between the health situation and government policy.

The public understands the risks and preventative steps we can take.

It is time to open up the border and roll back the entirely pointless quasi-state of emergency.

Down almost 33% in just one week.
