Is it possible Japan has snuffed out Omicron? If so, what next? Keep the country closed forever, I guess.

Japanese media are saying two detected cases of the new variant has been found in Gunma and also Okinawa. Two cases out of how many millions? Surely it’s time for the government to stop using COViD as an excuse to stop people from living their lives. Yes, be cautious…..but this is just ridiculous now.

What on earth are you talking about? How is the government stopping people from living their lives? Everything is open for business to everyone. You can go anywhere you like, at any time you like.

Cases, cases.... this is getting so tiring.

The relevant line in the article is:

The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo is three, unchanged from Sunday, health officials said.

..... but that does make for a screaming headline now, does it.

Clippety

In Tokyo, thankfully. In many Western countries, they have gone full bore China-style authoritarianism, and sadly a part of the population actually supports that.

A highly vaccinated population that wears masks spreads the virus less. Japan is almost 80% vaccinated and people wear masks.

The US is only 60% vaccinated with some areas stuck at under 50%. In many areas you'll see no masks in stores or at work.
