Japan on Friday reported 128,728 new coronavirus cases.
The Tokyo metropolitan government reported 12,413 new cases, down 2,038 from Thursday.
The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo is 34, unchanged from Thursday, health officials said. The nationwide number is 539, down 16 from Thursday.
Other prefectures reporting high numbers were Osaka (9,540), Aichi (8,489), Kanagawa (6,764), Saitama (6,204), Fukuoka (6,120), Hyogo (5,706), Hokkaido (5,566), Chiba (5,202), Hiroshima (4,034), Shizuoka (3,848), Kyoto (2,890), Okayama (2,396), Ibaraki (2,396), Kagoshima (2,332), Niigata (2,194), Mie (2,154), Miyagi (2,075), Gifu (2,040), Nagasaki (2,003) and Okinawa (1,987).
The number of coronavirus-related deaths was 347.

The nationwide stats thru 8/31 are:
Active cases: 1.74 million cases , down from 1.98 mil
Truly “hospitalized”: 36,778 out of 47,700 beds. 77% occupied. Down from 83%
ICU: 1577 out of 5563 beds. 28.3% occupied Down from 35%
Hotels(No doctors/nurses here) 28,333 out of 70,393 beds. 40% occupied
Total corona beds available in hospItal + hotels=123,000
Home recuperation: 1.4 million (no doctor/ nurses here) Down from 1.58 mil
All numbers down substantially from last week.
