End of the pandemic in Japan?
As always I’m not holding my breath

Very good news!

The downward trend has since long been nationwide, not solely in Tokyo. Much unlike in authoritarian state, the info channels in Japan are open and plural/diverse so that the figures can hardly be hidden or manipulated, or can be subject to cross-checking.
If Asahi's update is truthful, Japan's virus numbers have been very small, better than those in other countries.

Too many people think covid is over and have dropped the mask. It seems that 1/4 of men don't even wear masks over their noses, which is stupid because delta is spread through the nose.
Now is the time to be especially precautious as all it takes is 1 case to spread to thousands.
Delta is surging in China now. If it's in China, it will come to Japan. Again.

This pandemic has no end before all virus hosts are dead. And watching global data and one unexpected wave after another, you know it too, don’t you?

In Europe they have a new wave, so in Japan cases will go up again too. However, as before, Japans death rates will be lower, as the population is generally healthier, and as new treatments become available.
As the virus becomes endemic as viruses always do, we will have to live with it. I just hope Japan sticks to its common sense policy and does not go the rabid authoritarianism route like CCP China, Australia and now also Austria.

It was the Olympics, they skyrocketed after the Olympics.
They probably couldn't keep track of the posters who said everything was fine when the hospitals were full and people were being found dead in their homes.
It's easy to mock them once you are no longer as wrong as you used to be.

You are correct, the fear mongers cannot admit they were wrong. Many have stopped commenting yet even today there are a few left alleging that the numbers are fakes etc.. Some seem unable to be unable to think correctly anymore. A lot of the blame must be put on the Western media and politicians who exaggerated greatly the dangers of Covid to the average person and still do.

LOL yeah. The hysteria whipped up by the media propaganda is amazing. Looking beyond the hype and checking numbers yourself seems so difficult.

So when's the border reopening to vaccinated people with numbers this low?

Yeah, when your country isn’t full of anti-vax and anti-mask psychos spreading Covid everywhere, you don’t need lockdowns or mandates because everyone will do the sensible thing without being forced to.

154 nationwide in a country of millions means that the virus is no longer a threat so why is the Japanese government preparing and wasting money on the next wave?

Sweden did very poorly in comparison with its Nordic neighbours. Well ahead in overall cases and deaths.
Best keep it honest and try our best to compare like with like as much as possible, eh?
Just a nod to those here interested in looking at things honestly.
