FFS fact-check: Children’s cases, hospitalisations and deaths are recorded in Japan, thus far zero under 10’s died from or with Covid since the pandemic began

justaskin

FFS fact-check; Omicron was present in South Africa and U.K. for approx 5 to 6 weeks before numbers peaked. Numbers in all countries will not be identical, but the pattern will be the same. The peak will be within a few days to a couple of weeks. The hospitalisations and deaths will fall about 10 days after the peak has been reached.

ian

If you understood about viruses and immunity, you would understand why Omicron is seen as a good thing g by the majority of the scientific community. It should result in overall less deaths and provides robust immunity against Delta.

they are less socially active it and about than younger folks. That’s no brainer

Maybe they are older and wiser and know better than to stand in a line in the cold with no symptoms, waiting for a PCR test so that they can be forced into a hotel or hospital.

“Does this mean they are not testing old people (or people over 50)?”

The good news is it is shown to be replacing (wiping out) Delta.

Before omicron became prevalent, deaths due to delta was practically already zero for some time, we were well protected against it.

And now number of deaths is rising again.

It's not good news to me that a new strain that evades current vaccines came to replace delta.

Maybe it's good news in other countries, I don't know

The number of coronavirus-related deaths reported nationwide was 43.

Toyokeizai needs to change scales, daily deaths graph has max number of 40 at the moment

Why is Japan not totally shut down??!.

I realize recently my posts are becoming more fatalistic, and this is just my opinion.

We are not shut down because it is too late for that. Omicron is thoroughly embedded everywhere. The good news is it is shown to be replacing (wiping out) Delta.

If you are vaccinated you have very little to worry about. Also light infection seems to actually be a useful thing combined with vaccination. There are interesting studies being done yielding confusing at first, but ultimately encouraging results.

@falsflagsteve

FFS fact-check! Incorrect, the data shows due to the contagious nature of Omicron it peaks and falls fast,

Then why hasn't Japan's cases peaked already? And why is it still trending upward? When all other countries are already going down after 3 weeks, Japan still doubling going into week 5.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

I’m not obese nor elderly. So I must be safe . As for children …. Japan does NOT report the number rather it be zero or 1 million of fatalities in children of all age groups . Also , I’ll bet if we ask the family members and friends of those who died just in the last week of omicron is deadly and serious , they’d all say yes . So some of you need to stop insulting these mothers , fathers , brothers , sisters , grandparents as just collateral damages. Don’t worry ? That attitude is exactly why the world can’t move on from this disease. Until everyone gets serious and cares about others , the virus will NOT magically disappear.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

And what are they doing about it besides just praying it'll go away? Nothing! Maybe printing off new signs to hold up in front of cameras with the catch-phrase of the day, while Yoshimura in Osaka wonders what comes after the "red" signal in his three-signal method.

A 69 years father of my friend got infected, he was vaccinated with # 1 & 2 only, he has NO major health issues, NON smoker and hardly drinks, he got Pneumonia suffered badly 11 days in a hospital bed, 5 weeks at home with a ventilator, antibiotics, and other COVID medications. He just recovered waiting on # 3 booster.

Same 18 still in hospital….really?? Move on!

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

When is Japan going to test daily on the millions, like all other countries in the G7 ?

2 ( +8 / -6 )

Foreigner

Nah, best for everyone to get out and about, it’s very mild. The numbers look big but when taking into account the whole population it’s not.

Restrictions have proved pointless with omicron, it spreads fast and peaks fast, there’s no hiding from it. Numbers will fall soon and the wave will be over.

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

Like a Wild Fire.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Should close the borders so the Omicron doesn't get into the country...

3 ( +9 / -6 )

Omicron is not a problem-I’ve had all the symptoms (not fever) and put it between a cold and a mild flu.

Infected last Saturday and felling 90% ok today

6 ( +11 / -5 )

2000 cases added every day by the look of things, which is rather alarming... the peak will be quite soon though. Here in the UK figures went skyrocketing with Omicron, but the peak was reached sooner than expected and we're already getting back to some sort of normality. I'm hoping Japan's numbers start falling again soon.

@Thomas Goodtime

Worrying.

But hey, if you're not obese, why worry...

Callous, cold... first thoughts that come to mind from that post.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

And still no info of the age groups of the "serious" condition patients. Most likely all very elderly and/or with multiple OTHER comorbidities.

Otherwise counting people with the sniffles.

To have no plan is the obvious plan, @Sandip K. lol

3 ( +6 / -3 )

It's quite debatable actually. You had almost as many deaths last week from COVID-19 in the US as Japan has had for the entire pandemic. (15,017 in the US last week versus 18,507 in Japan for the whole pandemic). The comparison holds up against other G7 countries too. Japan has managed the pandemic remarkably well

Greetings the Commodore of Flags!

You seem seem to conflating a few items. I would argue that the low number of deaths has nothing to do with the inadequate response of the Japanese government which you are defending and has everything to do with the lazy LDP relying on the low number of co-morbidity in its populace and its unique method of complying statistics.

The associated misery of unemployment, suicide and other social issues has been conveniently ignored.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Of course it’s going to spread. Everyone in Tokyo walking about like there is no pandemic here. The train are like a can of squashed sardines and every restaurant is jammed packed at lunch including the malls. Not sure what people freaking out when they are not doing anything different for the last 2 years. Vaccine has almost no effect either in helping to prevent the spread.

5 ( +11 / -6 )

commodoreflag.

numbers can be seen any way you want.

for the US death rate is it dying of COVID or dying “with” COVID? They are different.

everyone:

why is there so much debate over these two years. Each day these figures come out. Is there anything new to add rather than I) forcing opinions on others ii) feeling the need to put down others iii) just bored with nothing else to do.

Whatever you do stay safe for yourself and those around you.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

At this point we might as well accept the fact of is not IF we get COVID but WHEN we get it. It truly sucks but cowering in fear of every little sniffle isn’t going to help

3 ( +11 / -8 )

That's relevant how? And why boast about beating the worst response in the world?

Again, what is it you people actually want? Lockdowns? Sealing off the country? It's just a series of complaints, conspiracy theories, and citing statistics that you don't understand.

-5 ( +8 / -13 )

"For Delta, systematic review suggested about 40% had no symptoms, but from Omicron, as best as we can make out from a variety of data sources, 80-90% have no symptoms at all."

This is going to quickly and quietly pass through the population - no need for any restrictions.

As has been the case during the whole pandemic, cooler heads prevail.

The number of coronavirus infections is debatable (testing is obviously much lower than other G7 countries or Asian neighbors).

Testing for omicron misses about 66% of cases. Not very cost effective. Waste of time and money.

That the Japanese government response has been inadequate regarding the suffering the pandemic situation has brought to the populace is not debatable.

The facts just don't support what a lot of you are saying - it's just complaining for the sake of complaining.

I hear genius Koike is considering a ‘full State of Emergency” whatever that is. Can’t wait for that.

that’ll get us through this in no time.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

After more than a year of these daily infection numbers, what else is there to say? Can't believe so many people still care to comment, debate and misinform.

11 ( +16 / -5 )

@Thomas

No one has said being obese is a risk factor for infection. People are saying being obese is a risk factor for severe disease. That is a fact not disputed by any doctors anywhere.

12 ( +21 / -9 )

The number of coronavirus infections is debatable (testing is obviously much lower than other G7 countries or Asian neighbors).

That the Japanese government response has been inadequate regarding the suffering the pandemic situation has brought to the populace is not debatable. The pandemic has been utilized as a wealth transfer to LDP interests; that is it and it is unfair to the majority of the populace.

5 ( +11 / -6 )

Am not boasting, Thomas. It’s fact. And am responsible for my body and my decision.

-21 ( +13 / -34 )

Stay safe, folks. I am still not yet protected/violated/contaminated by the COVID vaccines.

-25 ( +12 / -37 )

I am not sure, what is the government plan is ???

11 ( +19 / -8 )

Thomas Goodtime

FFS fact-check! Incorrect, children including the obese are also extremely low risk. Zero deaths from Covid since the beginning of the pandemic of any under tens in Japan.

-28 ( +13 / -41 )

To mask or not to mask, that is the question.

-31 ( +6 / -37 )

Justasking

FFS fact-check! Incorrect, the data shows due to the contagious nature of Omicron it peaks and falls fast, boosters have nothing to do with this as can be seen in data from South Africa and the UK to a lesser extent.

Very high case numbers, probably reflect less than 10% of those actually infected but low hospital rates. Case numbers will be falling very soon and a week or so after so will hospitalizations and deaths.

-9 ( +24 / -33 )

Japan's shortage of coronavirus infection testing kits is becoming a serious issue amid the omicron variant's rapid spread. Antigen test orders are particularly strained, with hundreds of times more requests for tests than the actual amount being carried out, thereby forcing manufacturers to adjust shipments to avoid stocks running out. The Japanese government is looking to solve the shortage by requesting manufacturers increase production to 800,000 units per day.

14 ( +26 / -12 )

Still doubling every week. Looks like the fast peaking in other countries and now the downtrend is not due to omicron’s mildness or infectiousness but rather the booster shots.
