Not feeling good today. I wonder if I am one of the uncounted cases?

I'd say test yourself with a RAT, but they are inexcusably in short supply in Japan.

16 ( +17 / -1 )

What was Japan doing for the last 3 months when the cases dropped to 20-50 cases a day

Simple, nothing absolutely nothing.

I believe that even those in charge came to believe their own propaganda on how Japan is special and did nothing to prepare because they truly see this as only a Gaijin thing, this is why Japanese could travel and return no problem, but non Japanese had several hoops to jump through if they wanted to travel or return.

So asking why not RAT, why the vaccine booster are so late/slow, etc... Just look at the false/contradictory information from the propaganda wing of the government.

12 ( +16 / -4 )

Every Monday so many get excited by the lower numbers and my words regretfully we will never know the true numbers until Tuesday and ending on Saturday. I don't see the numbers dropping for some weeks or a few months but there is a prayer I am wrong and it could be sooner.

Don't feed. He is feeling good enough to be the first post...

Well they aren't going to reduce numbers of cases by asking for proof of vaccination to have a beer in restaurants are they?

In Saitama, they allow anybody else in wirhout proof of vaccination, yet ask for the card (or a copy on smartphone) if you want a beer. Second time that's happened to me.

Couldn't be bothered and just ate lunch then came home and had a beer. Cheaper.

Idiotic polices here in Japan that are completely meaningless.

Oh, sorry, the nationwide is down to "just" 1.141, missed that one.

Well, we could also add around 100 patients in ICU in Tokyo that are not considered as severe because they do not need ECMO. So total should be more around 1250.

By age group, 2,780 cases were in their 20s, 2,874 in their 30s, 2,862 in their 40s and 1,814 in their 50s, while 1,999 were aged between 10 and 19, and 2,569 younger than 10.

And more than 2000 aged 60+.

Looks like we have hit the peak and are on the way down.

What's a struggle? Just because the gov't declares it's OK, that won't change people's behavior. Proof of case, Sydney and every other place where they decide to open up (e.g. tourism for Phuket and Bali).

Very true. I'm just stating that if the government claims they may or may not extend the emergency and wait till the deadline to announce their decision, it leaves many restaurant owners in limbo to decide if they need to order more for their stock or not. It's a struggle when these people rely on the government to make the call.

Shionogi will soon providing a drug to help covid symptoms so until then bunker down. Blame the crowded trains not the eatery and pubs. Also blame Japanese corporation for not allowing teleworking

So yesterday I commented on how predictable certain commenters are and how throughout this wave and the past waves every Monday (AKA Sunday's test results) they go "great numbers are down, we peaked, blah, blah, blah, only to repeat the same comments next Monday and the next and next..... until they finally get it right.

So here we are after all yesterday's declarations of "it has peaked cases are down" and back up we go as testing resumes and we are even up 2,668 from the same day last week.

Well on Sunday/Monday next week we can again read the same "peaked, numbers down" comments from the same people and have a chuckle.

So it isn't Japan or the Japanese government's fault this time there is a worldwide shortage.

true, but other countries used up their existing supplies very quickly - Japan never had any to begin with (excluding airport usage) and never ordered any for the general public. What was Japan doing for the last 3 months when the cases dropped to 20-50 cases a day - why didn't they order any then knowing that omicron was on the way?. Japan is relying on local manufacturers who can't produce enough because they can't find enough workers (was on the news last night) Little old NZ just took a shipment of 36m tests last week because they ordered them 3 months ago.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

I'd say test yourself with a RAT, but they are inexcusably in short supply in Japan.

Or just in Japan, seems you can't get your hands on one in many countries, in Canada you have a better chance of finding hen's teeth.

51 serious cases? Yawn….

Comment usually reserved for someone without elderly or vulnerable family in Japan or just doesn't care about any vulnerable family members if they do.

3 ( +11 / -8 )

got any secret sources to claim that we have hit the peak?

Perhaps someone in Osaka?

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Continuing to fall from its peak. Looks like we'll soon be back to normal.

But there are many who have had it that don't even get tested. I was exposed last week and haven't shown any symptoms at all, feel fine. If this is what we're all freaking out about what a sad world.

Sooner we can get back to normal the better. Europe seems to have the right idea.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

155 deaths is really concerning! For the past few days the number of deaths nationwide has been relatively high! More data needed as to how many were vaccinated, the age groups etc.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

The FREE testing in Tokyo has been extended to the end of the month (at least) so if you need a test you can still go to 190 different sites on a turn up basis, no reservations needed. I hear it can take up to 48 hours to get the results.... Look up a place near to you.

The government is going to hit that snooze button on their alarms again. Hopefully we get some sort of decision by this week because this is definitely a struggle for everyone who is working hard, especially those working in the food and hospitality business. We need to know ahead of time if we are going to A) extend the manbo B) call a full on SoE C) call it quits and have everyone return to normal with caution.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Please people who are old, obese or has some problem like cancer, high blood pressure, diabete... STAY HIDDEN in a bunker to avoid being infected by the others.

So if you add the 35m who are elderly, and the 6.5m or so physically or mentally disabled people, and then all the cancer patients (1m new cases a year) and diabetics (about 10m). Then throw in a couple of million who are vulnerable by their situation, like children in care, women fleeing domestic violence, homeless people, asylum seekers, prisoners, and add to that the health workers and care workers (another 2 or 3m). Oh, and better add school teachers ( a couple of million?) as that's pretty high risk at the moment, and while we're at it, people working in public transport, shops and supermarkets, delivery....

Of course this is hard to do exactly as there's some crossover between groups ( many of those diabetics and cancer patients are over 65, for example). But we can see that 'vulnerable people' number in the tens of millions, and could be nearly half the population. And that is the point - that's why we have public health, because we need to protect each other.

Do you have any evidence for that? With Delta, it was well established that the vaccinated have identical viral loads (if not higher) than unvaccinated. Faucci himself announced this fact!

You do like to take stuff out of context don't you.

Now go back and read the CDC study.

The vaccine had/has the effect of reducing severity of the infection simply less virus less sick.

The studies do point out that vaccinated or not the viral load is similar when we compare equally I'll people, ( so very severe cases vaccinated or not have similar viral loads)

Now again for the facts, vaccinated people are far less likely to become severely sick and remain at lower viral counts, the fact the despite in most developed countries 70% or more are vaccinated, the unvaccinated are taking up the vast majority of hospital space and ICU beds.

That was me 11 days ago. Go ahead and get counted. Just have tissue on hand to pull through the boredom.

So it isn't Japan or the Japanese government's fault this time there is a worldwide shortage.

In Japan, it's simply not available. In Canada they are just hard to get due to demand. Big difference.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Not a cure, however, for everyone who would like to prepare try some old fashion Canadian medicine Buckley's. You can see reviews on Amazon and everything you will see it works "GREAT", however, that it tastes "NASTY" all true. I have been giving out mine to some of my friends and colleagues who have fallen ill with COVID and they say it really has helped a lot. You can purchase it on EBAY, yes, it is a little expensive but well worth it.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

What?

With over a hundred dying daily from this now, what are the naysayers basing their sunny dispositions on?

Not dangerous? Really? You don't have elderly family? Family with comorbidities? Friends, neighbors, coworkers who are prone to more serious outcomes of a covid infection?

Not impacting medical infrastructure capacity?! Osaka is about to go into a medical SOE because what is happening to hospitals here. (My doctor conducted 71 PCR tests at his clinic last week; 53 came back positive.)

Not vaccinating kids? Do you have an asthmatic kid? Or a kid with nephritis? Are you worried that you won't be able to see your child in hospital quarantine if they have moderate symptoms?

Covid fatigue is leading to an erosion of compassion for the vulnerable.

The interesting thing about governments, despite the current turmoil, is the payments to them don’t change.

People’s situation have changed. The governments’ answer, “It’s not our problem. It is yours. Please pay on the due date."

They know people are struggling BUT WE must pay on the day that payment is due.

If you can’t pay, they will strong arm you with letters of confiscation of property.

They have forgotten that we pay for their salaries! All of us.

if I get vaccinated I cant still transmit COVID to these vulnerable people?

Yes you can, but now for the rest of the facts you ignore. Vaccinated people carry a lower viral load which in turn mean a lower possiblity of transmitting the virus.

This has been repeatedly pointed out by every health agency around the world.

But it is hard for people that look at a rise in cases from one week to the next but keep on saying it is all over, it has peaked, to understand and when we reach a daily death that is higher that ever they still push their false narrative.

The ones sold on Amazon are highly unreliable! Even the information displayed on the product itself states that this product is not accurate. High quality RAT kits are difficult to find. The cheap ones on Amazon are just unreliable ( read a few reviews and you’ll realize it ).

The highest daily death count for Japan was 222 people last May 18th during the height of the Delta wave, so not far off. RIP.

For those who want to see an easy to understand representation of the toll covid is wreaking on the population over time, I again would like to direct to worldometer daily deaths graph.

If curious about the highest daily count recorded it's easily seen as a tall thin line towering above all others

One extra question-how many were fully or partially vaccinated?

Or do you think that I want to know too much?

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Covid fatigue is leading to an erosion of compassion for the vulnerable.

if I get vaccinated I cant still transmit COVID to these vulnerable people?

Indeed, vaccines do very little to reduce transmission. But the most dangerous thing is getting the vaccine and thinking you can't transmit, so you get close to the vulnerable not even realizing you're infected.

i stand to attention and offer the double-salute. to koike-san who is battling the covid on the front lines, and the other to kishida-sama, leader of the LDP party.

To all those fighting this insidious virus, i bow, deeply. the american military bases are clearly the cause of this horrific spread of "THE" omicron"

ROFL...oh how we missed our resident LDP joker's hilarious posts here, thanks for the laugh. Glad to have you back.

I must be doing something right...people in their 50s is pretty low. I know I will get this bug someday but not today. I am fully vaccinated and waiting for a letter to get my third....

I ensure I follow protocol/prescribed advice and do my best to keep this bug from entering my house, my place of work, and from me and others (wash my hands, wear a mask, keep my distance from others, etc.). It is the least we can do to put this pandemic at bay.

But, it has been a boring life for the past few years but I can work and get paid. I lost a lot of substantial amount of money as an average “Joe” from this pandemic.

Will the Japanese give another hand-out another ¥100,000?

I will not hold my breath on that pipe dream....Abe-masks are the definitive way the government thinks.

By the way, I have a few in my drawer and unused...Who paid for them?

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Checked fact :

“The number of coronavirus-related deaths reported nationwide was a daily record high 155.”

Omicron is as deadly as any variant. I don’t care if I’m ever right . But I do care if I’m wrong and will own up when I am . There’s nothing positive about a new record number of deaths . The only positives are that case numbers are going up daily . Children are leading the surge in numbers and it’s time for adults to start acting like responsible adults. Time to stop the spread of the corona virus and the viruses of misinformation and made up stats / facts . Japan is not any other country and in Japan , Omicron is the deadliest variant The healthcare system is on the brink.

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

Every new infection means there is one more person who could come down with long term COVID symptoms.

Infect a vulnerable person with co-morbidity leading to tragic consequences.

Not be at a position where they could work from home and maintain their standard of living.

This should be remembered when a certain ideological brigade arrives to tell you: It is just like the common cold.

-2 ( +13 / -15 )

My bad , that illiterate sentence should say , “Omicron IS as deadly as any variant in Japan.”

-2 ( +10 / -12 )

To all those non elderly and non obese who are scared from this don’t be. The average age of 'Covid death is over 80 and those are usually people with serious health issues. It’s also winter when deaths are always high from influenza and pneumonia.

Omicron is far milder than other variants but more contagious, hence the Hugh numbers of cases. For children it is hardly an issue. No under 10’s have died from Covid in Japan

i have been out today around Namba, busy as ever and people getting one with their lives and supporting local businesses which is essential for the economy.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

Seems we’re still soaring to that peak . Up, up , and away. Children still leading the surge . Surely they’re not out at the bars. Where could they possibly be catching this deadly virus from ? I wonder . Any ideas people ? I’m only speaking specifically about Japan. We have wasted 2 years on fake SOE’S. Time to shut it down . Hard . Would slow the spread , allow the healthcare industry that’s on the brink to disaster to recover as well . Typical Japanese fashion of waiting for something bad to happen and then reacting. Time for proactive measures. Bad things have already been happening daily . People are dying . Hospitals are over crowded. Omicron IS as an variant in Japan. While it would be horrible news , I wish the jgov would go ahead and share the number of deaths of children in any age group from 0-19. But the FACT is , they don’t . But if they did , would y’all voluntarily change your selfish and dangerous behaviors? I doubt it . So lock it down . Jail the irresponsible. Send them to “ Camp Covid..” Deport the foreigners who refuse to follow hard rules . Hard times call for hard changes. If children getting sick is daijobu, there’s nothing except karma gonna wake you up.

-9 ( +10 / -19 )

Be responsible and sensitive to this virus, please lock down immediately.
