Dubious that Tokyo's hospitalised with severe symptoms is 20, yet nationwide the number is 697.

Just a remainder, since 2020 April 27, Tokyo prefecture decided that only patients under respiratory supports (ECMO) are counted as severe. So people in ICU are not counted as severe.

Up, up and away!

How many US military personnel are there in Okinawa exactly? Seems like they should have run out of new people to get infected by now.

There are about 30,000 U.S. troops in Okinawa.

3.9% until the 50% covid hospital bed threshold for Tokyo’s full “SOE”

The 50% threshold refers to the total number of patients hospitalized for covid, not just the 20 patients who are in severe condition. There are currently 3,187 who are hospitalized for covid in Tokyo, which means they occupy 46.1% of the 6,919 available beds.

Yes. 50 - 46.1 = 3.9%

My sincere apologies. I misunderstood your comment when I posted the numbers.

20 People hospitalzed out of 17,631 + cases? Omicron seems to not be as bad as "they" once predicted. Get your Vaccines, wear your mask and stay safe out there Japan.

Just a remainder, since 2020 April 27, Tokyo prefecture decided that only patients under respiratory supports (ECMO) are counted as severe. So covid patients in ICU but not under respiratory support are not counted as severe in Tokyo prefecture.

How can you imagine that Tokyo has only 20 severe when the rest of the country has almost 700 ?

Like the person above tried to explain, Tokyo is counting differently from the rest of the country.

17,631 new cases only 2 of them in a serious condition.

What exactly will be different in the SOE from the quasi SOE other than Koike pretending she is doing something. Will she allow the 100000 tests a day she promised were available but have never ever been carried out. And meanwhile on the news I see testing centers begging people not to be tested especially the young with mild symptoms as tests and materials are running out

2 is for those under respiratory support. Many other covid patients in ICU but Tokyo refuses to count it as severe.

“What does "full" mean? In reality, the only thing they should ask for is work-from-home for as many employees as possible.”

The buchos will be seething.

Quick someone, move the goalposts again.

At least there are optimistic outlooks. Long article fromJT discusses some inc downgrading covid to similar classification as seasonal flu:

17,631... that's a lot of throat lozenges and Kleenex.

-4 ( +11 / -15 )

Also bear in mind that having difficulty breathing is counted as mild to moderate, and in the present situation doesn't guarantee you a hospital bed. Also, now the central government is pushing for 'younger' ie under 50 people suffering Covid to tough it out at home with no monitoring by public health services. This means that the government will no longer be able to have a clear idea of what is happening on the ground, and inevitably some of those people will take a sudden turn for the worse and die untreated. This is what happened last August and September, and it was notable that quite a lot of the home deaths were of younger, supposedly less vulnerable people.

So for the 'only 17 severe cases in a city of 20m' brigade who pop up around this time to ask yet 'what's the fuss about', take the trouble to find out more about the whole picture before churning out the same ill-informed comments day after day.

Time to move from Manbo to the actual SOE and kindly encourage companies to have their employees work from home, to which they will get a response starting with a nice long inhale between the teeth followed by a statement like "komaru ne" and the government will say "wakarimashita" and move on.

@Reckless

Graphs in toyokeizai only shows pcr tested at pref level.

Nationwide level has pcr tested as well as pcr tests although it's only today I've seen the graph for pcr tests

It has embedded link for the tests data though at the bottom of page

Severe means dying. Hospitalized means oxygen tanks.

Numbers, numbers, numbers. Contested accuracy by members of the public, informed or not, as long as it is within a range, what does it matter to an individual citizen - that's rhetorical. It is fairly moot except as a means of argument aka how many angels can dance on a pinhead. here is no conspiracy among politicos or bureaucrats to produce inaccurate numbers. Cases are reported by municipalities and prefectures - you can go to websites and finagle a count if that fits your fancy.

What is apparent: a large increase in SARSCoV-2 cases. Hospitalizations are increasing. Viral infection is across a range of age categories.

A booster shot is a good strategy for individuals. Full vaccination with booster shots are highly effective reducing rates of hospitalization for SARSCoV-2 to approximately 0.014% and 0.027% for omicron. This is reflected in two massive studies, one in Switzerland encompassing the entire population.

Many school closings and online classes as he virus spreads throughout the school population. This a recent phenomena following the latest covid variant.

3.9% until the 50% covid hospital bed threshold for Tokyo’s full “SOE”

So what? All places that are serving food and drinks until well after midnight or even until the early morning will keep doing so regardless of what some politicians call this nonsense.

I do not cooperate with any of these rules, I have never done so before. So nothing will change unless people are looking to change their own behavior. But why should they?

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

Only 80.000 because test capacity not allowing more.

Justasking

FFS Fact-check; Incorrect, severe does not refer to dying patients. Hospitalisation does nit mean oxygen tanks.

I know right! Oh and totally contrary to this here.....(way off the mark!)

@ Rocket Lees There are about 30,000 U.S. troops in Okinawa.

Dont know what you have been smoking, but there are over 80,000 SOFA status people in Okinawa and the numbers that are reported regarding infections among the military are NOT just active duty but dependents and SOFA status as well.

More of the Tokyo hospitals sending people home to rest instead of admitting them. They will claim that the hospital is not equipped or designated to handle COVID patients.

It keeps the the staff and other patience safe. The hospital does not lose money from fewer patients with other problems. TheJ-gov does not need to count them on their official lists. The truly ill or infected hidden out of sight, out of mind.

Tokyo is not going to do anything that truly shows the severity of the issue. They are going to keep it like it is.

Anything more accurate will make Koike (Where is she, lately?) and the J-gov look bad. They all want to be re-elected and maybe PM someday.

According to Wikipedia hospital beds per 1000 people are amongst the highest in the world in japan but japan collapses with a fraction of cases they’re having in Europe and the US. So what am I know getting? France had half a million a day and wasn’t collapsing, Japanese healthcare is a joke, great in good times but very weak in bad times because the national health care system is a smokescreen because most hospitals are private and they don’t want covid patients cause it’s bad for the profit margin. That’s the reality of the country I call home for over 20 years!

Remember to get fully vaccinated, means 2X, 二回

Those fully vaccinated should get BOOSTER after 6 months, ブースター after being fully vaccinated.
