Nobody is doubting that coronavirus exists and is a serious problem. I’ve been wearing a mask for a year now while going to work and am not doing that for fun. But you’ve got to go on with your life and can’t be paralyzed be fear.

For sure, more tests, more positive cases. But if the aim is to find only a few additional positive cases with a low chance of transmission, no need to test in masses.

Do you know how the U.S or any other country started ? It started from one case, yes one case, resulting in millions of deaths that you call low chance of transmission.

Everyone knows, who is mostly affected and of what age groups, where they all die uncounted, untested, untreated and how they die and why the numbers are even low after they died. Of course , like in all countries, it’s kind of a taboo to speak out loud, so don’t expect me to break it first.

I was talking about Japan. The US is somebody else’s problem.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

I think the media is to blame for a lot of the panic that has been created.

The US hit 500,000 Covid deaths today.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I’ve been to Toranomon hospital, which is treating Covid patients, several times in the past six months and it was functioning normally. There was no sign of collapse. The problem is the media blows all this stuff out of proportion and then people get terrified.

What they are not reporting is the private clinics that are doing testing which cost about 20 thousand yen because it is so difficult to get the public ones and people cannot go to work or school until there is all clear one way or the other. Yes, many come back positive, however, these clinics are not permitting their data to be published and sometimes they are not even sharing due to the privacy laws in this country.

For the 1000th time, they are test centers, not clinics. It is up to doctors to report the infection, if the individual sees a doctor after getting a positive result like they should. And the test centers instruct them to do so.

How do I know this? Through my friend who works in the local government office, and who has gone to say the numbers are so much higher but due to the Olympics and lock downs they are doing whatever they can to keep the count down. All I can say take care this virus is real and rampant here.

For the 1000th time, your friend has no inside information and is making up conspiracy theories like the common Joe.

I’ve been to several major hospitals in Tokyo over the past six months. Not one of them was collapsed. Anyone know of any collapsed hospitals out there?

I don't get that either! During and after the winter holidays, everything was supposed to collapse and there would be a complete breakdown of the medical system and people dying in the streets.

Like was supposed to happen last fall.

Like was supposed to happen last summer.

Like was supposed to happen last spring....

I’ll bet my last dollar that low infection rate is due to closing bars and restaurants after 8pm. That was the secret to defeating COVID-19

There is no one secret, but of course it helps. People drinking, shouting and singing without masks right next to each other, what could go wrong after all?

The unfortunate part is that some people just go drinking earlier. Saw this walking by a local bar at 6pm. But for many that isn't possible with work and family commitments, etc.

i think all you compulsive obsessive ‘how many tests !?’ people need a hobby.

How about living your life ?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

i know from good sources that they don't test PCR post mortem.

If it's good why not post it here

6 ( +7 / -1 )

i would love to see a broad massive PCR testing to have peace of mind.

What you're talking about is called casedemic. Crowbar Covid into every sickness and death in the future so that there is a permanent sense of fear.

It has more than anything become a mental illness issue. Many people have not dealt well with the first traumatic chapter in their lives. My guess is those that want massive testing have a far greater problem than Covid.

‘Need’ is the wrong word. Getting closer to finding out exactly what we are dealing with in Japan is very useful.

Wherever you are placed on the spectrum from scamdemic to apocalypse, it is useful.

My city public hospital do not treat covid patients and do not do any covid testing. None of its services has been affected. I went there myself a few weeks ago

Ah, the old unidentifiable ‘friend” in the govt office routine. Riiiiight.

Yeah, the anecdotes are a bit tiresome. On the other side, the pandemic of posters who have talked to anti-vaxxer health professionals nearly overwhelmed the site.

@Cricky

How do you know that without testing? Hospitals unable to function due to virus patients? No altopses so no figures on deaths

Well you are right, but as far as I know, only hospitals, mostly public hospitals, that treat covid patients face issues as they have restricted numbers of beds, and their measures might affect other services. Otherwise, there are many hospitals that do not treat covid patients and do not face any problem. Unless those hospitals do decide to restrict services for some prevention

Japan did two studies on a population of 15000 in main cities about covid antibodies. Around June July, it was found that 0.1% of the population was exposed and had antibodies. 6 months later, it was 0.91%. It suggests that less than 1% of the population was exposed in 1 year of covid. We can still argue on these studies, but there is a time when we can not deny on a daily basis the figures.

For sure, more tests, more positive cases. But if the aim is to find only a few additional positive cases with a low chance of transmission, no need to test in masses.

Melboune tested 30000 to find one, Wuhan after the lockdown did test over 10 millions, to find 300 asymptotics.

Ah, the old unidentifiable ‘friend” in the govt office routine. Riiiiight.

still, no hard evidence of the healthcare system collapsing or deaths skyrocketing. But plenty of restaurants have gone belly up.

Every country around the world, even the US, is showing a dramatic decline in infections and deaths. Is the conspiracy that widespread?!

Not every country. but the decline overall worldwide is pretty dramatic. This is great news, but it’s still better to take a horses for courses approach here ( Brazil for one is not seeing a dramatic decline ).

I’m in favour of more testing in Japan to get a better picture of the serious illness and fatality rates from Covid here in Japan which seem much lower than what we’ve seen in Europe and the Americas. Getting a clearer picture of this would be useful in decision-making going forward.

didou Today 05:46 pm JST If numbers are hard to believe here, what about Taiwan, Vietnam or other successfull countries ? Can we trust those countries ?

If it is low, it is low, that's it. The explosion expected for months in Japan never happened. As simple as that. How do you know that without testing? Hospitals unable to function due to virus patients? No altopses so no figures on deaths. As you say might not be so bad but might not be so good, with no testing its guess work. Personally I'd like a scientific testing of a big control group, rather than a YouTube video.

Burning Bush - Who cares if we’re all passing the virus around without knowing

I’m pretty sure you would care if you spend the next t three months in hospital on a respirator fighting for your life and Siena the rest of your life with reminisced lung capacity and asthma.

0 ( +11 / -11 )

The only thing more confusing than these official numbers is the fact that the whole world isn't banging on Japan's door to demand to know how they did it - or Japan isn't touting their miraculous handling of the virus to the rest of the world for a considerable fee.

@Do the hustleToday  05:02 pm JST

stickman1760 - Agree with Fidlers. Stop obsessing about the numbers

This is also why random and mass testing is important. It’s too late after people develop symptoms. They could have passed the virus

Almost no one wants to be tested unless they have symptoms.

As I said the other day Hiroshima city couldnteven get 3000 people to be tested even though testing was free.

So unless your proposing mandatory testing, you need another idea.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

We are 13 months into this!!! Don’t ya think if there was gonna be a massive explosion as you seem to fear it would have happened by now? Where are all these dead bodies?

2 ( +13 / -11 )

stickman1760 - Agree with Fidlers. Stop obsessing about the number of tests

The problem with the number of tests is they only test those with flu-like symptoms. People can carry the virus without developing any symptoms for a fortnight. That is why they have a two week quarantine for travelers. This is also why random and mass testing is important. It’s too late after people develop symptoms. They could have passed the virus onto hundreds of people before they develop symptoms. This is also why Tokyo and Japan continue to have hundreds and thousands of new cases every day.

3 ( +12 / -9 )

number of deaths and hospitalizations is more important....and for you doomsayers the 100s of thousands of dead bodies the Japanese govt is hiding somewhere

Obsessing about tests? How else do you track the virus? A YouTube video? People dying around you.? It's just a test , 30,000 a day in Melbourne and a single positive is national news. The Shogani attitude just makes things worse. I'm more obsessed about mask wearing, wearing a mask in summer, just not a comfortable. But I don't want to get the virus and don't want to give someone the virus. Having a sweaty face for more than an hour I'm obsessed with that, but I don't want to die so as the locals say....Shogani?

3 ( +16 / -13 )

Agree with Fidlers. Stop obsessing about the number of tests

How can there be only 5200 tests done on a Friday, a normal workday?

Do you think 200,000 tests a day, as all other developed countries are responsibly doing, would help solving the current political crisis and assist the Olympics to miraculously go ahead?

10 ( +13 / -3 )

How can there be only 5200 tests done on a Friday, a normal workday?

Because to get tested you need to have certain symptons so less tests mean less people with symptoms.

Don't you people get tired of repeating the same things everyday.
