Having it above 20,000 wasn't a good look for Koike. But you can't exceed 20,000 if you test fewer than 20,000. Problem solved!

Reading the headline I thought case numbers had plummeted.

It should surely be

Japan reports 19,798 new coronavirus cases in Tokyo

or

Tokyo reports 19,798 new coronavirus cases

Still heading up.

Moderator: Quite right. Thanks for pointing out the error.

“If you wish not to be vaxxed, please do what you can to protect yourself and others!”

If you have been vaxxed, please still do what you can to protect yourself

and others! You are NOT sterilized.

If you don't believe in the vax, keep the info to yourself.

Likewise, if you are pro-vaxer. Also keep it to yourself.

“This vax, no vax has really driven a wedge between people. Vax or no Vax, we are all humans and we all deserve to be respected.”

couldn’t agree more!

@Jexan That depends on the definition of ‘normal’. lol Everyone who grew up a few decades ago would even consider the pre-pandemic and still coronaless years already as very unnormal and nothing to wish going back for too. There were times and years when still everything was quite fine and the world and economic circumstances still intact. So for many it’s not a great difference now, pre-pandemic, post-pandemic… not a real big difference, only above the heap of shxxt another some smaller new heap of corona shxxt. Deliberately got used to, but nothing substantial gets really better if corona should disappear and even that is still not so sure.

And the upcoming Tokyo Marathon, all runners will have to go through PCR tests. Before today there were two options: 1 was to show vaxx proof and the other was to do the PCR. So what does this change tell us?

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

You can't learn to live with a pandemic.

The flu is endemic, Covid-19 is still a pandemic. Maybe it will evolve to be endemic, but at the moment it is not.

Vax or no Vax, we are all humans and we all deserve to be respected.

Tell that to the virus.

10 ( +15 / -5 )

“Tell that to the virus.”

Hooman is the toughest virus out there.

Let's all engineer ourselves to have cybernetic breathing like Cad Bane so we don't have to worry about breathing in the virus and destroying our respiratory system.

Seriously though, the new Book of Boba Fett series is getting intense!

Will today be the milestone of 100,000 in one day?

We already hit that milestone yesterday with 104,472 new cases.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

People need to understand that severe means ICU. Non-severe hospitalized are those that still need oxygen tanks to breathe.

Will today be the milestone of 100,000 in one day?

I read it in the Asahi Shimbun, and it's also the number that is still listed on the front page of the Yahoo Japan website.

@jkctlr89

Sorry, my last comment was meant to address your question.

But yes, yowza indeed.

The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo is 41, up three from Thursday,

Fourtyone (41) out of a metropolitan area population of 20 million. Of which by now probably most already have come in contact with Omicron. I wonder when the media will get some perspective.

Great to see those vaccines work well please everybody stop drinking at 8 pm and the virus will disappear.

Yeah, the virus only wakes up at 8pm. And it dislikes alcohol. Interesting virus!

I ordered a PCR testing kit yesterday. Should arrive in a few days. Then a few more days until I get the result. By the time I know whether I was positive or not, I'll be either recovered or dead. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!

for more context, 1,400,000 Japanese die every year.

thats more than 3,500 per day.

the number of Covid deaths is 82 today, it is less than 3.3% of total deaths. we also know that most ppl dying from it are over 70 and in bad health.

you are much more likely to die from cancer, a heart attack , or a stroke by an order of magnitude.

No one wants to die or suffer from the consequences of (long) Covid, but there is too much vain effort and economic cost already put into this.

It is bad for people suffering from other diseases who don't get the medical attention they merit. If you care about your health, or the health of your loved ones, there is many things you can do to reduce the risk of getting those illnesses....

and don't forget your mental health ! don't get depressed by all the media fear-mongering and brainwashing. Suicide kills more than 8,000 people a year !

Tests: 20,957, cases: 19,798 (94.5% positive)

Could you verify that the number of positive includes those who were clinically diagnosed without tests?

Just curious

I would like to know this too if any user can shed some insight or another link?

As I've stated many times I don't read Japanese but using Google footnote 1 beside the number of positive case seems to say that's why I asked

Ah, the daily numbers! That reminds me that I need to go to Tokyo tomorrow. Not just to meet my beloved Corona-chan - I have a few other things to do as well.

Appreciate the context bit so I'd like to add more for consideration.

We should consider that 82 deaths in the context of gargantuan amout of resources thrown at it to precisely limit it to the minimum.

You can consider for context what could the number have been if we didn't do anything or allocate resources

Truth is because of convergence of reasons unclear to us even now Japan have been lucky.

Despite equivalent or greater resources spent in many other countries the result is still nothing short of tragedy

Still going up. Never peaking ever. Unlike all other countries where it starts to go down after three weeks. Japan is entering 6th week.

The stats for those that don’t like to click links and read articles:

Tokyo 2/3

Tests: 20,957, cases: 19,798 (94.5% positive)

Since last Friday: increase of 2,167

Covid beds occupied: 54.1%, severe beds occupied: 17.2%

Will today be the milestone of 100,000 in one day?

You seem to have missed another 'stat'. Of the new 19,798 cases, 3 of them have severe symptoms.

You will be either recovered or find out the test was negative in the first place. Omicron is extremely mild compared to previous variants.

Why isn't the population here angry? Why aren't Japanese people outraged? Is there no level of failure that can ever get the people here to care about something? Why aren't medical experts criticizing the government? Why isn't the WHO?

The people are very ignorant and accept everything the experts and those on TV tell them. The experts and those on TV know the positivity is very and deliberately don't about it or that tests are very low as it won't help the narrative that Japan's numbers are low and domething to be proud of compared to some other countries. They talk about France reporting 500K cases for a single day but don't say France did tests in the millions. The reporting is plain deceit.

Still going up. Never peaking ever. Unlike all other countries where it starts to go down after three weeks. Japan is entering 6th week.

Danish modellers (who have been way better than most of their counterparts) predict that Omicron will peak in Denmark in about 2 weeks. They advised the government to open up anyway, acknowledging that Omicron can neither be stopped nor poses a significant risk to the health care system.

I would think Japan is a little behind in the curve, maybe a week or two?

. Unlike all other countries where it starts to go down after three weeks.

is this really true?

Researching your claims here @Zaphod 8:35pm disclosed some interesting search results, although a bit off-topic. Anyway, “Thanks” for the temporary distraction from the otherwise, ongoing dreary Covid news:

For Moderna & Pfizer Vaccines Remember to get fully vaccinated, means 2X - twice - 二回

Those fully vaccinated should get BOOSTER after 5 months, 五ヶ月 事後, ブースター after being fully vaccinated.

Quite a jump for the severe case. Day or two ago that's just 7 plus I think for around same total bed occupancy
