Tokyo reports 2,413 coronavirus cases; nationwide tally 16,676

The Tokyo metropolitan government on Thursday reported 2,413 new coronavirus cases, up 84 from Wednesday and up 594 from last Thursday.

The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo is one, health officials said. The nationwide figure is 38, up two from Wednesday.

Nationwide, the number of reported cases was 16,676. Other prefectures reporting high numbers were Okinawa (1,542), Osaka (1,248), Aichi (914), Kanagawa (808), Saitama (770), Hokkaido (753), Fukuoka (752), Hyogo (744), Chiba (572), Kumamoto (453), Kagoshima (361), Hiroshima (339), Kyoto (312), Shizuoka (305), Ibaraki (268), Aomori (246), Nagasaki (239), Gifu (222), Miyagi (215), Okayama (185), Saga (181), Mie (177), Ehime (177), Yamaguchi (160), Shiga (157) and Ishikawa (157).

The number of coronavirus-related deaths reported nationwide was 15.

One thing I missed about the SoE was the ability to sit on a non-crowded train ride during commute. Trains these days seem to be even more packed than pre-pandemic levels. Sad to see many companies haven't kept their work from home (or anywhere) policies or adopting a hybrid working system.
