What’s not over?

As far as I can see in the area I reside, things are as normal, apart from the hordes of foreign tourists in the city center. Covid will continue lurking around, however the problems that arose before shall not return unless a nastier variant appears.

The economy needs rebuilding, we all must do our best to support our local businesses, something I have down during the whole pandemic.

It might be time before the tour groups from overseas arrive to have a short and sharp four week national lockdown.

That may reduce the number of infections substantially.

Life is back to normal. Happy to be living in Japan!

normal is what you make it. There are obviously a few who would disagree with you but it can’t be helped as that is self-imposed.

I feel lucky and privileged to have lived here for over 22 years and especially in the last 3. I hope it lasts.

I wonder what is "normal" too.

I have been living my normal life--supporting the local supermarkets by shopping at off-peak times, hitting the gym late nights, traveling on domestic aircraft, while fully masked.

But most importantly I support the community by wearing a mask whenever indoors, by keeping distance from people who are not members of my household, and by eating and drinking at home so that I do not put others t risk where I might be asymptomatic.

Keep masking up, dine and drink at home. It is normal to care for one's and others' health.

Elvis-ask again.

The countries around the world need to get rid of all the COVID measures already. More people are hospitalized from doing stuff at their homes, walking stairs, riding bicycles, or driving.

High vax rate = high recent case counts. Look at Israel, Europe, U.S., etc.

What happened to COVID in India, Mexico, Philippines, etc.? It's pretty much gone.

But gotta keep those boosters rolling...

These numbers are extremely high at this stage, and that even takes into consideration that Japan underreports the real numbers.

A new wave is on the horizon.

If you say so Painful!

You didn't know this?

in other news, I noticed in a different news source Shanghai is struggling to keep numbers down 2 months into their lockdown. More proof zero policy doesn't work.

Sorry you had a bad source. Rely on the Pain for the most recent accurate news on this matter.

Shanghai is actually opening back up.

And Elvis, look at these numbers for the entire COUNTRY of China (hint: lower than Shiga prefecture yesterday):

The country on Saturday reported 362 daily coronavirus cases, down from 444 a day earlier.

Glad to be of service--your health is my concern.

Mask it up!
