Anyone else curious why the death tole is so much higher than hospitalizations. Common Japan…. Get with the program.

People are panicking for nothing as usual

“I would guess if you are out and about in Tokyo you have already been exposed to COVID. You must have a good mask, well done not getting infected!”
let’s be realistic.. yes we have been out and about when we have to… go out jogging, to the gym swimming, grocery runs almost daily, go to work using public transportation, eat out from time to time when we are tired of cooking at home… We wear disposable masks from various brands . I trust made in Japan disposable masks. But I have also been using made in China and Korea masks as well. The JN95 is very well designed, especially good for those who have to wear glasses. So whether the masks are good or not especially if they have to be compared to tue overspecced N95 some talked bout here and popular outside Japan, and expensive, we don’t need those masks.

Yes, severe bed cases increased by 3 since Friday, as I stated in the comment to which you replied.
TokyoJoe
Just reading the article, only 3 new serious cases since Friday, all the information is there if you read it.

And what will the government do? Tighten border controls. Force babies to wear masks.

Well then, sure seemed like you were upset by the divisiveness @7:07pm, predicted NK launching another during the Games, etc Have to agree with @zichi from earlier, suspect your not even in Japan since these issues don’t affect you. Enjoy yourself and “Que la fête commence!”, eh?

It isn't hard to get the hook up. Just be somebody and you can get the Vaccine.
The singularly uninformative noise to information ratio is one of the central issues with the pandemic in the era of the internet.

Difficult to drink with masks on I guess”
you guys obviously are NOT in Japan. Nobody eats or drinks with mask on. And we are all fine with that.
ian
If that's the case you should complain or request immediately.
Your choice of course if you wanna do something or not

Remember the good old days (?) when weekends and mondays were the “coffee break” of those “chaos loving freaks” ...

Possible now, doctors are allowed to diagnose without pcr test

Someone else earlier stated “You are not new to this site” @ExpotentialWitness 7:07pm so, can’t see how you can’t understand the continual divisive efforts of media and some users here. (Try reading some columns on the U.S. presence in Okinawa, China’s ‘Games’, etc. Particularly, there are those Tokyo Living who seem to be encouraged to and thrive on it daily.

No that is simply not possible in Japan whatever you may think as you need a voucher. My prefecture is after 7 months but it has not arrived for me yet and then I will have waiting time till I get a slot. Total time til I will be able to get a booster will end up being 8 or more months. Nothing to do with what I want to do but all about what is possible to do in the Japanese system
anon99999
good for you. You are lucky aren't you
But that does not change anything for most people who have not got their vouchers yet. Many who have more months to wait till they are even sent out ,or those like myself where even though they are supposed to have been sent out they have not. No one can get their vaccine till they have their voucher and there is no choice in the matter till then.
ian
There's a site to request vouchers before. When I received mine but my wife haven't I requested hers.
Turns out it's already on the way so she got two sets.
Point is we can request to make sure.
Sorry can't provide link now

And yet the government keeps praying it's peaked and will go down so they don't have to do a thing, as they have not been doing, since it began. Yoshimura, Koike, and others flat out said some time back that if the numbers again go above a certain threshold -- like 500 or something -- and/or beds in hospitals surpass a certain amount occupied, they would declare an SOE. Both of those numbers were passed about two weeks ago. Knock 10% off the defence budget (which is a new record every year) and they could afford to pay everyone about $10,000 US a month easily for the entire year, and ask people to stay home, close up shops, and let this thing go over. But nope. Can't afford it!

Been 6 months since my first shot now and I'm still waiting for the voucher..

Important stats:
21,122 New Cases
3 New cases in serious condition.
21,119 in bed with a box of Kleenex.
Que the downvoters!

Better to express in deaths/unit population like in worldometer.
No need to worry about number of tests or cases
Raw Beer
Don't forget that the survival rate against Omicron will be much greater, and I suspect the real number of infections is much more than double the official number. So I very much agree that almost everyone will be fine.
Mark
HOLY Quacamole, passed the red line.
bokuda
yes, the ipsofacto standard in mask is called AveNoMask.
That's the one that the government is actually selling and promoting to the population.

yeah, sure you did.

For Moderna & Pfizer Vaccines Remember to get fully vaccinated, means 2X - twice - 二回
Those fully vaccinated should get BOOSTER after 5 months, 五ヶ月 事後, ブースター after being fully vaccinated.

But I still see a lots of salaryman without mask drinking in small crowded bars in Akasakamitsuke.
Whilst people here complain that foreigners don’t wear it.
How much percentage of these new infections were foreigners?

Corona or Omicron?

Those are deaths due to anything (any disease/accidents) - not exclusively the flu.

Tell that to someones Mother, Father, Brother, Sister, Aunt, Uncle, that their death was "acceptable".
Jexan found it acceptable, like the flu.
anon99999
to all the people who continually post this. Do you live in Japan? Do you understand the system here? One cannot get the vaccine until you get vouchers in the post from the government. This does not come for 7plus months from your last vaccine. You have no choice in the matter without vouchers. I am already over 7 Months . NO Voucher. Rang the health office they said maybe next week or the week after.
After voucher arrives only then you can make a booking which might be some weeks later depending on what slots are available
nonu6976
@Expotential Witness
according to statisa.com, in 2019, 3575 people died from the flu in Japan.
just a small piece of advice - if you are just going to make up numbers, at least try and make them semi-believable.

My pleasure. Simple math equations are fun. Japan has had 3.12 million cases about 19,000 deaths. That’s 99.4% survival rate.
isn’t math fun?
now let’s assume testing is insufficient and the cases are double. That’s a 99.7%
Thank you for your explanation. 19,000 deaths sounds acceptable.
IronBeard
It’s a miracle! 21,000 positive results but only 20,000 tests!
Of course official positive % is calculated based on 3 day average (23,000, so 90%) but I’m willing to bet that Monday’s ‘official average’ is over 100%.

Terrible numbers for Tokyo but cute photo of an uncrowded station platform on a Saturday. (The ‘half-height’ (of train door) protective barriers are designed to be about chest high to the average Japanese person. Those depicted in the accompanying photo can barely see over the top so, doubt wording of the caption: “Two women wait for a train at a subway station in Tokyo. The capital reported 21,122 new coronavirus cases on Saturday. (Photo: AP/Eugene Hoshiko)

why would you have to ?
you’ve been saying that for the last two years.
Would you be happy if the number was 200,000 ?

which is further proof “prevention” is a lost cause. Everyone will get this and based on science almost everyone will be just fine.
Please define almost everyone ?

Because of the lack of testing and people walking around with minor symptoms. You know the real number's are probably 10x more than what are being reported.
