The more serious consequences of Covid now seem biased towards those who have taken the covid jab unfortunately. UK figures have shown this, until the government decided to no longer publish them, and now the authorities in British Colombia have taken the same action, as figures started to show it better to not have taken the jab.

Figures from April 10 to May 7 show that 91% of fatalities were amongst the jabbed. How much longer before there are demands for an explanation from governments for pushing untested drugs?

I don't understand why this false information is permitted in these comments.

I honestly wish I didn't have to comment here, but I can't just let it slide when users post dangerous misinformation. If one has an anti-vaccine stance, they will see your link and feel vindicated.

But if one is scientifically literate, and can read peer reviewed research available at PubMed, or just read real news, then one can do a simple search and see the vaccines are working.

Let's say those numbers are accurate. 9% of deaths unvaccinated, 91% of deaths vaccinated. You conclude that vaccines are killing people. It is false.

Most deaths are occurring amongst the elderly. The elderly are mostly vaccinated.

What you're not seeing is the lack of deaths amongst the younger vaccinated.

Peak is very close, less than a week it seems. Hope the downwards trajectory is at a similar angle to how the growth has been (as in other countries with their most significant waves) and not a gentle slope like last time which would mean we dont see pre-7th-wave numbers until November...

Tell me, what good does publishing these numbers do?

Seiji, knowing the numbers allows you to make decisions for yourself about where to go, and what to do. Of course there is no consensus amoung us what is correct, but at least as long as we are informed, we can make a reasonable assessment of what we should do in line with our personal philosophies on the matter.

So...publishing the numbers provides an important service.

What happened to reporting the previous week's number, JT?

They're now planning on reclassifying COVID to be on par with Seasonal Flu....

6 ( +10 / -4 )

People wearing protective masks to help curb the spread of the coronavirus walk across a pedestrian crossing in Tokyo.

People aren't wearing masks to curb Covid anymore. They are wearing them out of habit. Probably half of the people in the picture have already had the virus though they wore their mask daily.

I believe that's the highest number yet for a set of Sunday figures.

Better close down this comments board pronto.

wonder how many people who will come down with the flu will be diagnosed with covid pushing the numbers higher?

How do you suppose someone with a flu could be diagnosed with covid?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

@painkiller

I think it is clear they have a different approach than last time and are correctly riding this wave out. That is the plan and I am glad they are following it. It is already starting to plateau and will do so in the next week or so.

@Northerline,

I own some English schools.

This wave unlike before lots of kids are officials with corona

In the big scheme of things it's no big problem means a get a couple of early evenings to enjoy a few beers

Next, the number reported do not include my Australian friend and her 2 children here in Japan. Her daughter was sent home on Friday with a fever, her son last night and how she knows it is COVID a home testing kit that was sent home with her children and it was positive. I am sure there more people like their case, and so, for a fact the numbers are higher and are not being reported.

If your friend called the houkenjyo it's included. But you probably knew that already

Funny to see how you guys are still reporting numbers of infections (that are quite meaningless since the virus has mutated and it's less dangerous vs 2 years ago).

You should concentrate on hospitalizations and serious cases, here in Europe we figured it out 6 months ago...not sure why in Japan is taking so long

This post basically sums up the anti-japan sentiment on JT comments section.

Japan focused on serious cases since the beginning while foreigners asked for more and more tests. Now that Japan has more tests, despite still focusing on serious cases (hence the no restrictions), some joker wants to claim that his people figured it out first.

You can't make this stuff up.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Must be those damn tourists.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

then they should also report ALL possible diseases where people could be infected

They do

1 ( +2 / -1 )

It's about time for the government to STOP publishing numbers of infection because it does NOT give anything good to the public except instilling more fear and anxieties.

Fear and anxiety may be all you get but the data is useful to others.

Just stop reading numbers reports so you don't get scared

Japan was never locked down like those countries, so I don't see the relevance; what is the purpose of mentioning two countries that took a diametrically approach to this as Japan did?

Be specific.

I thought I made myself clear. Japan never had a lockdown and is doing relatively well with hospitilizations and deaths even as the cases explode.

New Zealand and Australia, the 2 media darlings who implemented the disastrous lockdowns I assume you pine for have proven to be spectacular failures.

So again, what are your specific plans that would see covid all but disappear.

You ignored my first query. Will you continue a second time?

What is your solution for a plan?

These are government figures and you can read into them what you will. They are not false information.

You assert that is is mostly elderly that are jabbed. But then there are elderly that are already sick from other causes and cannot get jabbed.

But, as you assert that young people are a lot less likely to die from covid, one might question why they were jabbed at all.

And certainly the jabs seemingly are not having the desired effect for the elderly.

That was what Japan has been doing from the beginning, the reason why people have been clamoring for more tests.

Good you figured it out after 2 years

That doesn't answer the question

As it closed down during the first wave never to reopen.

Yeah that area had more than a few closures over the past two years. There was that Budweiser bar there as well that's also gone. I imagine that new tunnel area that goes through to Shimbashi would also have been a more lively area had covid never happened.

I did. You became evasive because you didn't want to give the ridiculous answer you ended up giving in this post at the end.

Japan never had a lockdown and is doing relatively well with hospitilizations and deaths even as the cases explode.

Not sure of the true numbers from the last two years.

Conspiracy theorist. Apparently Japan was hiding numbers in one of the biggest scandals since 400000 people successfully kept the lunar landing hoax under wraps.

New Zealand and Australia, the 2 media darlings who implemented the disastrous lockdowns I assume you pine for have proven to be spectacular failures.

Those countries eased restrictions too soon.

Mmm hmmmm..How much longer should they have locked their citizens down? They had the most draconian lockdowns in the world and were rewarded with the west possible outcomes.

So again, what are your specific plans that would see covid all but disappear.

Total, strictly enforced lockdown; especially as it is summer vacation, and as children are a large portion of the spreaders, could be done best at this stage.

What evidence do you have that more of the failed severe disastrous policies will eventually work?

How do you suppose someone with a flu could be diagnosed with covid?

Perhaps because the pcr tests are not accurate?

The US CDC withdrew them December 31 2021. In their statement:

In preparation for this change, CDC recommends clinical laboratories and testing sites that have been using the CDC 2019-nCoV RT-PCR assay select and begin their transition to another FDA-authorized COVID-19 test. CDC encourages laboratories to consider adoption of a multiplexed method that can facilitate detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses.

The CDC notice:

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

JT doesn't publish the number of tests taken, so we don't have an accurate look at what percentage of those tested are positive. The number of positives reported really depends on the number of tests taken, including all those at-home rapid tests that aren't included and those infected that do not test at all, recover and move on. These figures here are just a vague indication of the spread that folks can use to decide how they want to change their behavior towards protection, or not.

Japan continues to get hit hard.

And it doesn't have a plan.

Or maybe it does.

the most locked-down countries in the world like Australia and New Zealand currently have the highest covid death rates.

Tell us; what would YOUR plan be?

Be specific.

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

These numbers are hyperinflated so that the fear narrative can continue to make people give away their freedom, rights, and liberties for basically nothing.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

spinningplates... then they should also report ALL possible diseases where people could be infected so that more fear will be instilled to the hearts and minds of the public, and then we can all live in peace by "staying home and saving lives."

-4 ( +6 / -10 )

Maybe I am wrong but what I think why Japan still reports these numbers, unlike many other countries out there, is they still care about these metrics. Maybe some don’t but that’s their choice. We might have been hit hard it seems and in terms of these numbers but other countries might be hit similarly without caring about it. Many of my friends didn’t know they got infected until taking the PCR test to board flights back to Japan. Of course positive tests mean your plan will be delayed, if not canceled. I wouldn’t argue whether what we do here works or not… the information is for you to make your own decision, which is important for your own health, and to some extent, others’.

Do you think the CDC would admit that? Perhaps read between the lines? Whybdidntheybwithdraw authorisation if the test was so good?

Keep on mind that the creator of the PCR system, Mullis, said it should not be used for diagnostics.

And isn't it strange that flu disappeared for a couple of years?

All these comments about “other countries” and a litany of patently false information. 91% of all deaths in the UK from Covid are vaccinated patients ??? 1st of all …. Data from 3rd world countries with subpar medical systems just doesn’t apply here… or anywhere else for that matter … the situation here in Japan as it currently stands is completely out of control…. A train wreck no longer waiting to happen …. It’s happening hourly …. 1.8 million people classified as hospitalized…: not my numbers… and NO!!!! These are not the people sent home to quarantine, recover or die …. The 1.8 million are people under the constant care of healthcare professionals… in hospitals, hotels , or other facilities…another 93 people died FROM Covid…. But there are those that think as long as the dead are elderly, obese, or have say diabetes then it’s acceptable and those lives didn’t matter anyway …. Also …. Who whines about some gonna be bankrupt anyway bar and not consider the dead … people …. The sick people… those suffering from long Covid…. Utter lack of compassion….

Japan has done phenomenally well, for a country its size and with voluntary compliance to government guidelines. Chalk it up to easy access to medicine, a culture that already used masks for slowing down the spread of colds/flus and a place renowned for hygiene: these all factored into slower spread.

Masking is literally 100% compliant in Japan, yet here we are with the world's worst current case count.

They are not just useless, but an enormous burden we have put on the most precious part of civilization; our children. The mental illness masking is causing them will slowly but surely become apparent in the coming years.

And you will be silent when it does.
