Maybe there just aren't many people with symptoms. Why rock up to get a test if you have no symptoms unless you're forced to do so?

Although I agree with those who are highly critical, and perhaps one of the better educated posters could nix this idea, but is it possible Covid 19 has burned through the bulk of the population and the vaccination drive is helping build resistance to second contagions from apha and the variants?

The Government was never about controlling spread.(schools and businesses with confirmed cases stayed open)...they were only interested in 'controlling panic' (their own words mid last year).

The only concern was keeping hospital beds available, never about revealing the reality of the situation and they took a massive gamble on public health by keeping everyone's heads in the sand.

You dont even know whats in it!!!!!!

I don't even know what's in the burger I ate yesterday but no way that's gonna stop me from eating it

It's time to open the borders......

These numbers mean nothing without the number of tests provided that day. Recording less than 2,000 tests in a city of 14,000,000 to show 235 infections is pathetic. It is only propaganda for the benefit of the current government before elections next month.

The Japanese government is being disingenuous to the residents of the Japan.

@Foreigner in Tokyo

For the sake of balance in your last quite long post, I’d just add this:

”but it’s clear that vaccines greatly reduce the chances of being hospitalized or dying from Covid”

Just a suggestion if you are interested in giving a fuller picture.

If you follow the data link provided and scroll down, to PCR tests conducted in Tokyo, you’ll notice it’s a zero “0”.

I refresh my cache and the link daily since the start of September, it’s been zero all that time.

No testing No corona.

These remarks are generally retraced by Japan times for thread hacking and relevance reasons. Go figure.

Time to start living your best life again peeps.

The time is NOW? My life never changed. In fact, I traveled more, and got many discounts since the Virus. Didn't live in fear, and had a great time!

2 ( +13 / -11 )

Thing is I'm pretty sure you're in far more danger from what we know of the virus than I am from what we don't know of the vaccines.

Millions have already died because of the virus, ok ok , died with the virus.

How many so far is your count for the deaths due to vacc?

So many new members posting nice things about the governments posting of 235 infections with only 2000 or tests. Very convenient as we have more week before the month ends and elections right around the corner.

Mass testing does have use. It's used by countries with zerocovid strategy to try to stamp down cases completely out

1 ( +7 / -6 )

The vaccines have been proven to be 93-95 percent effective in preventing hospitalization and death. The numbers are going down now in part due to the vaccines. 99 percent of people hospitalized are unvaccinated. Those are facts.

Looks as if the Olympics spike is winding down at last.

Only 2100 tests. In a city of 20+ million citizens.

It could be good news. The trend does seem to be heading downwards.

But, to bowlderise Mr. Wolf:

Let's not start celebrating yet.

the conspiracy theorists act as though the vaccines don’t exist and the government is hiding 100,000 deaths. Get real

Many of these countries have been inflating the numbers by using PCR tests with unnecessarily high cycle numbers, so it's impossible to know what the truth is.

You go tested routinely and periodically with or without symptoms because you can pass this virus on even if you are Asymptomatic.

I am dumbfounded by the stupidity that has been laid out before me in the last 18 months.

Only people that say PEN loudly pass on the virus, when will these muppets realise they’re the ones passing it on and killing other peoples friends and families.

Thanks to the selfish for making this damn thing last much longer than it needed to.

Your alcohol will always be there, you can resurrect your grandmother.

Which countries are doing that?

Why can you say that that's only 2000 tests

Its time to open the border for international worker. After graduating from university i started to learn Japanese language and i am hired, i am waiting to enter to japan since last year. I am fully depressed, exhausted and suppressed. My degree in vain and dejections. I am thinking about to quit japan and go for other countries

WOW! This is amazing

At this time last month, Tokyo had 100,961 and of the total 318,929 cases in total, represented 31.7% of cases for the month since the pandemic. This month only 30,276 cases and if my figures are correct, (which I am pretty sure they are, that represents only 8.1% of all cases for the month. A great fall indeed. However the figures for the under 20s and 30s, (although not shown so far today still represent percentages in the 40s for Tokyo's daily cases up until last night.

Stay safe to you all.
