Huge efforts are in place to keep the virus from not becoming a terribly public health problem, specially in those areas where there is no room to play with hospital beds. It is harming society.

If you want to compare it with influenza you have to do it on the same conditions, just check how many cases of influenza have been this year, with those measures also impacting it, then you will see why.

It is not the amount of cases, but how severe the cases and if hospitals are getting overwhelmed. WHO has said they estimate that 10% of the world has been infected with CV19. So, that would mean 780 million cases with 1.4 million deaths. That is a 99.82% survival rate similar to the influenza survival rate.

1) death rates are calculated using a fixed denominator. Most rates are calculated per 100,000. Death rates provide almost no insight with regard to total infection rates. And even then, Japan’s 1.6 death rate is still low compared to other industrialized nations.

Actually, Japan's death rate (even with no postmortems) is the 3rd worst in East Asia, after such banana-republics as Indonesia and The Phillipines. So nothing to be proud of.

They were fortunate. It kicked my butt and symptoms like a hacking cough, fatigue and shortness of breath lingered for months. I haven't really been the same since.

Very possible, due to the rarity of confirmed cases in most of Japan. It's another incentive to not catch the virus, even more so being a johnny foreigner here.

A young lady near where I live caught it back in May and lived rather recklessly for a few days after being tested positive. So far she has been the only case in this area, and there was quite a lot of anger towards her. Businesses that she visited suffered, and others that she was rumoured to have visited had to take steps to inform people that she hadn't.

Her family moved out of the area last month, and although I can't be sure it was due to the the virus I have no doubt her family was stigmatized badly.

Does anyone think the lack of testing is due to social stigma surrounding COVID? Japanese don't like to be the odd one out. To be outside of the group. To be "meiwaku" to others, to break the "wa" so to speak. Having COVID does all of that. It shouldnt have that much of a stigma, but that'S what it carries in Japan.

Could be people are too afraid to get tested, if they may have come into contact with someone or showing symptoms, so they just "gaman" through it good or bad.

Certainly, (based on the number of fatalities) it is not necessary to take a vaccine that is not proven to be safe containing synthetic mRNA which will program our cells and will never leave our bodies.

Also, by the time next year comes the virus will most likely mutate into something different ie not infectious to humans.
