The Tokyo metropolitan government on Tuesday reported 3,357 new coronavirus cases, up 954 from Monday and down 1,691 from last Tuesday.
The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo is 11, up one from Monday, health officials said. The nationwide figure is 160, down four from Monday.
Nationwide, the number of reported cases was 30,481. After Tokyo, the prefectures with the most cases were Osaka (3,318), Aichi (1,930), Fukuoka (1,856), Okinawa (1,761), Hokkaido (1,718), Hyogo (1,362), Chiba (1,035), Kanagawa (1,028), Saitama (1,021), Kyoto (746), Hiroshima (740), Kagoshima (704), Kumamoto (567), Shizuoka (544), Tochigi (499), Gifu (478), Gunma (444), Okayama (423), Nagano (415), Nagasaki (412), Ibaraki (407), Oita (391), Miyagi (389), Miyazaki (357), Fukushima (346), Kagawa (326), Akita (310), Aomori (296), Saga (294), Niigata (294), Ehime (272), Mie (265), Shiga (245), Iwate (212), Yamaguchi (210), Kochi (197) and Wakayama (176).
The number of coronavirus-related deaths reported nationwide was 55.

One such detail is number of tests conducted.
Look for the section "【参考】検査件数" (Test Counts)
Then look for the first section: "行政検査数" (Test Counts at Public Health Centers), which shows last 3 days total of 15,810 tests (or daily average of 5,270). These tests are done at discretion of the doctors or centers because of symptoms or close contacts with virus carriers.
Now look for the second section: "都の独自検査件数" (Special Tests By Tokyo), which shows last 7 days total of 147,647 tests (or daily average of 21,092). These tests are done not because of symptoms or close contacts but as precautions at locations where serious consequence can result if cluster occurs. These include nursing homes, nursery and elementary schools, hospitals, entertainment districts.
These tests do not include people who need testing to get certificate for traveling or simply who are worrying about their own infections and other reasons. For that, you need to check the third section: "ＰＣＲ等検査無料化事業検査件数" (Free PCR and Other Tests). Tokyo offers free testing for these special needs.

Read the last paragraph…. 555 people died…. at HOME from Jan-Mar. from Covid. Doesn’t say it or how many died in the hotels . These people should’ve been hospitalized but couldn’t because of over crowded hospitals.
