Tokyo reports 3,533 new coronavirus cases; nationwide tally 20,231

The Tokyo metropolitan government on Tuesday reported 3,533 new coronavirus cases, down322 from Monday and down 4,303 from last Tuesday.

The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo is 45, one down from Monday, health officials said. The nationwide number is 937, down 14 from Monday.

Nationwide, the number of reported cases was 20,231. After Tokyo, the prefectures with the most cases were Kanagawa (2,351), Saitama (1,626), Chiba (1,147), Osaka (998), Aichi (940), Hokkaido (885), Ibaraki (776), Fukuoka (770), Hyogo (629), Hiroshima (371), Okinawa (326), Gunma (322), Gifu (313), Tochigi (312), Nagano (302), Shizuoka (296), Miyazaki (251), Niigata (249), Kumamoto (239), Fukushima (229), Kyoto (226), Saga (221), Kagoshima (219), Nara (190), Shiga (180), Oita (173), Okayama (172), Aomori (163), Mie (159) and Kagawa (159).

The number of coronavirus-related deaths reported nationwide was 71.
