The Tokyo metropolitan government on Friday reported 3,546 new coronavirus cases, down 75 from Thursday and up 1,365 from last Friday.
The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo is four, up one from Thursday, health officials said. The nationwide figure is 52, unchanged from Thursday.
Nationwide, the number of reported cases was 23,156. Other prefectures reporting high numbers were Osaka (2,135), Okinawa (1,543), Kanagawa (1,519), Aichi (1,294), Fukuoka (1,292), Saitama (1,133), Hyogo (1,070), Chiba (1.026), Kumamoto (843), Hokkaido (641), Kyoto (448), Kagoshima (413), Hiroshima (385), Shizuoka (374), Nagasaki (357), Shimane (355), Saga (334), Gifu (280), Miyazaki (258), Aomori (255), Mie (248), Oita (243), Ibaraki (243), Miyagi (218), Okayama (191), Wakayama (188) and Yamaguchi (175).
The number of coronavirus-related deaths reported nationwide was 21.

If you don't . . . , at least remember to social distance, avoid crowds, change air filters for a/c on a regular basis using (some filters claim they can trap virus carriers), sanitize, especially air with disinfectant 99.9% spray . . . .

I wore the mask for over 2 years and caught corona regardless. Now it’s time to drop them outside, especially in this heat.

Cases continue to skyrocket. And Japan underreports.
Okinawa numbers are way up still.
Another wave is around the corner so we will see higher numbers in a few weeks. Not to mention that BA.5
will be here soon.
Feel free to waltz around your neighborhood, but wear a mask when you are in close proximity to non-household members. Travel where you like but mask up. Eat izakaya food, but take it home.
I saw several foreigners wearing masks at a major train station the other day, so probably most are complying, regardless of what they write otherwise.
Best advice--stay in, stay masked.
