The Tokyo metropolitan government on Monday reported 302 new coronavirus cases, down 263 from Sunday and 309 down from last Monday. It is the first time the number has dropped below 400 since July 5 and the 29th straight day that the daily figure has been lower than the same day of the previous week.

The average for Tokyo over the past seven days stands at 771.1.

People in their 20s (88 cases) and their 30s (57) accounted for the highest numbers, while 48 cases were aged under 20.

The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo was 169, down two from Sunday, health officials said. The nationwide figure was 1,454, down 42 from Sunday.

Nationwide, the number of reported cases as of 6:30 p.m. was 2,224. After Tokyo, the prefectures with the most cases were Osaka (268), Kanagawa (257), Aichi (183), Chiba (157), Saitama (155), Hyogo (117), Okinawa (80), Fukuoka (75), Ibaraki (63) and Hokkaido (50).

The number of coronavirus-related deaths reported nationwide was 23.

Of course the number is low because the number of tests done are low.

We can't have that... Way too positive.

The only narrative accepted on JT is Japan is doing bad, worse, people are dying but the news media is covering up.

False sense of security. Low numbers seem to be preferred by those in power, but is it really in the best interest of the public to be lulled into a false sense of security? Shoganai.

Japan is a wonderful place to live during the pandemic.

Very true. So glad to have been living in Japan during this whole thing.

Good riddance to Covid, as I predicted there would not be no apocalyptic end to this, the Olympics were not a super spreader and normality resumes very soon. In act I’ve lived my life almost normally the whole time, whilst taking sensible precautions of course. I ignored the fear mongers and did my but to support small businesses especially locally.

We now know that Covid is less of a danger to healthy non obese seniors than we were told, we also know that though the vaccines are far less effective than initially thought they provide enough to cause significant benefit.

I agree with a few posters here who see things as they are, Japan is a good place to be during Covid especially in comparison to most Western nations.

@John Noun where is life ‘back to normal?” US where there are 2,000 deaths a day? Australia where they are rioting in the streets? A large number of people here just can’t seem to accept that Japan has done relatively well with this. No hard lockdowns and no high numbers of deaths. I’d much rather be here than elsewhere

Every holiday not many cases. Wait and see coming days this week.

Right, @blvtzpk? A “Pockyt of nonsense”, so to speak.

Without “studying the fax” someone’s comments often just come across as “misinformation” and, well…“vacuous”.

@5:10pm: “Japan is number one. Keep the restaurants and bars closed and extend the hours of coffee shops.”

Number of tests down, number of cases down, surprised ?

If it's real, do a mass testing drive, show us the results and then celebrate.

7 ( +14 / -7 )

Don't believe that number is valid for a nanosecond.

Anyhow, you’ve just reminded me about his gem from mid June:

Things almost back to normal, bye bye Covid and good riddance.

Ridiculous stuff.

Unfortunately, they are ten a penny. Too many running with narratives here.

One promising thing is the hedging with predictions we saw today.

Progress of a kind but still as useless as telling us about travel, eating and drinking habits.

@ Jimizo

Anyway, we’ve had quite a few terrible predictions about the walls closing in on Covid Let’s look at the numbers rather than running with narratives.

Oh yes! We shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves.

'Never said Covid will burn out, you must be confusing me with another poster.

-5 ( +10 / -15 )

And that's a wrap folks. Well done, Tokyo.

and then:

I reckon this could be the last state of emergency.

‘Reckon’ and ‘could’. Not sticking your neck out too far there, eh?

Anyway, we’ve had quite a few terrible predictions about the walls closing in on Covid Let’s look at the numbers rather than running with narratives.

We seem to be in a reasonably good place at the moment. Encouraging news.

Japan is number one

If only the west could learn!

*(I wish I could also learn to quote properly... apologies)

Oh dear. Here we go again. Be happy by all means, but the hyperbole and boasting seems a little premature to me.

Life appears to have gotten back to close to normal in many other places before it will here.

Shows lockdowns work. Or maybe that a less restrictive approach works just as well.

I reckon this could be the last state of emergency.

Seems the doomers have largely abandoned the covid news reports as well. They probably went back to the global warming threads.

@falseflagsteve

why carry on with this conspiracy theory? Time to face the facts, numbers are down, the governments policies have worked, no lockdowns needed.

Time for all to return to normality whilst taking sensible precautions of course.

Numbers from government websites are now conspiracy theories?

We are still waiting for your evidence that COVID-19 will simply burnout. That has been the theory you have been pushing.

Have any links to academic links to share with us?

Keep the restaurants and bars closed

ShinkansenCabooseToday  05:20 pm JST

Close down all restaurants that serve alcohol permanently.

They figured out the cure.. long live Japan

Big change in reliable rhetoric there, in just ten minutes.

You see, the problem I have with that logic is that every night, when I walk my dog, I don't see any closed bars or restaurants, just jam-packed ones, full of unmasked customers making merry.

Karaoke bars are also thriving by the sounds of it, if the bellowing voices I hear when I pass by their doors are anything to judge by- Make of THAT what you will.

Well of course the numbers are down ..its a holiday.

12 ( +21 / -9 )

Only 6,555 tested on Friday September 17. The 3-day moving average of test from the 17th to Sept 20th is 8,775 now.

Which means the 562 infections this weekend and the 302 is from 2, 220 tests.

That is a 38% infection rate.

Just imagine if more tests were permitted. The true numbers are obviously higher.

J-gov trying its best to make facts confusing, so the uniformed will believe everything is fine, and the J-gov is doing a wonderful job for the election that they have postponing for so long.

Not even JT posters can hide the truth!

No need for further restrictions, vaccine mandates or lockdowns. Just about everyone who wanted a jab has got one or more

You ARE joking, right?

Come to Osaka and try your luck here, with their impenetrable application website never up and running (just checked: It's still down) and phone-lines that imperceptibly put you on hold for aeons, and eventually and unceremoniously cut you off.

I

It being a three-day holiday, I imagine that the number of tests are also down.

Just about everyone who wanted a jab has got one or more

Not correct. Many cities are still dealing with shortages and are unable to take reservations for the first shot.

18 ( +25 / -7 )

Do you see that ‘vacuum effect’ also now happening *here *@bltvzpk? - Presuming that this is truly a significant, sustainable trend, the same posited just yesterday:

- @5:59pm: “We will be at zero in a month from now with no lockdowns.” -

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Gadzooks!

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Don’t random check. Waste of money and resources. Close down all restaurants that serve alcohol permanently. Open coffee shops all day long and no masks and let baba scream at each other.

They figured out the cure.. long live Japan.

-37 ( +4 / -41 )

Tomorrow, number will be lower making many people thinking Covid is no more.

12 ( +20 / -8 )

No need for further restrictions, vaccine mandates or lockdowns. Just about everyone who wanted a jab has got one or more, and they're leaky anyway, so domestic restrictions should end on Sept 30.

-12 ( +17 / -29 )

Keep going on and open the borders

Again around60% less compared to last Sunday. So good and so predictable.
