The Tokyo Metropolitan Government on Friday reported 374 new cases of the coronavirus, down 19 from Thursday. The number is the result of 6,136 tests conducted on Nov 10.
The tally brought Tokyo's cumulative total to 34,144.

Everywhere I look I can get nowhere this information.

Please click on the live link in the story.

We are guessing here or where are the links to credible medical government information. How many test were done and how many of those tests resulted in positive cases... and what does positive cases mean...it means nothing. When you people wake up from this fear mongering..

I went to a public rest room today in Toranomon and watched a worker NOT wash his hands after he did his business............This is one of the problems in Japan, people don't take hygiene seriously in regards to Covid.
Raw Beer
So?
These are just cases, or PCR positive results, they are not necessarily sick. Just let it run its course, and we'll be fine.
bokuda
I'm waiting the same.
garth
1.3 million people around the world aren't fine. They're dead.
Monty
@mods
Thanks.
I didnt see the link.

Care to expand on this curious statement?

This kind of person won't take hygiene seriously anyway, covid or not. Thank goodness for immune systems.

The amount of testing and the cost of getting tested privately in Japan is extremely disappointing.

FYI,
On the https://stopcovid19.metro.tokyo.lg.jp/en/ page you have to click "OTHER INDEXES" to see the number of tests, and even then the chart is kind of retarded as the light green bar is just "Number of tests conducted at medical institutions". You have to manually add that to "Number of tests conducted at the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Public Health" to get the grand total, lol. Unless you are only interested in the total for whatever day happens to appear on the top right of that box. Today is 11/13, but it shows the total for 11/11.

nah...
1000 tests and 300 positive THEN
7000 tests and similar number 390 NOW over 6000 and still similar number.
with the logic: : "if you test more, you will have more cases" this is strange. ( plus/minus ) 80 people plus is not really increase in population of millions of people.
my guess: tests are always 1000(plus/minus) and then they just add 5000 or 6000 imaginare tests (negative of course) and here you go. Numbers will be similar over 300 but under 400 not big deal, ne...

1.3 million covid deaths in the world is a tragedy. But hardly a pandemic given the global population of 7 billion plus. It amounts to 0.02% of the population. Also doesn't even break the top ten causes of death globally. So let's keep our panic in check for a while.
Matt Carter
wait, that’s 0.000004% of the population of Tokyo infected!?!
smithinjapan
Matt Carter: "wait, that’s 0.000004% of the population of Tokyo infected!?!"
It's almost cute how you think every single person in Tokyo was tested. 371 people out of 6,136 tests were positive. That's a positivity rate of more than 6%. So, your "logic" the better part of a million people are infected, actually. Well done. Hope you're not teaching math!

The subway already has very good liquid soap dispensers that lathers / bubble up. Some public restrooms in newer buildings even have warm water so the cold should not discourage anyone from washing their hands. There is really no excuse.

Someone should examine the methodology from the Stanford study on the number of contractions that were attributed to trump's rallies and apply it to the Go To campaigns. Nishimura is still pushing for his campaign and even thinking of extending it to February while the medical association has become more vocal and saying that they are reaching a crisis point. If emergency measures aren't taken, Nishimura is going to end up with a lose lose situation.

This is more worrying than the same numbers back in August, because the age breakdown has more young people. If, as I seem to remember, young people are more likely to be asymptomatic, the authorities finding more young people with Covid-19 suggests the number of undiscovered cases out there will be larger than before.
It may go exponential from here, it may not, but I would recommend doing what the doctors say. Many countries have ended up in bad places by failing to do that.

Its worth noting that today will be a new record in new daily cases, although the exact total number of new cases will probably be a dozen or so higher than the current 1685 (some places report late). So it may even be over 1700 for the day when all is said and done.
And not to forget, just yesterday was also a new record at 1661.
But for all those debating about *total number of TESTS done*** **to arrive at these numbers, I ask you this:
How many tests are done on new, symptom-showing patients? Meaning, on the one hand, once someone is tested poistive, they will surely be tested again and again, probably multiple times. And then, how about medical personnell and government workers (and baseball and sumo players) who are also rpoutinely tested?
Surely by now, many (most?) tests are done on people who just need a test.
Makes me wonder how many new tests on new people they actually do per day.
Monty
@Matt Carter
What smith in japan dont understand is that only people with serious symptoms are tested in Japan.
So, like you said , only 6136 people among 14.000.000 shows serious symptoms, which are necessary to be tested.
So...your math is OK!
Monty
Ah...almost Ok...it is 0.04%...maybe...I am not a math teacher.

I wonder why people are concerned at all.
If you think the government is manipulating the results of the tests then whether number of cases are going up or down doesn't matter at all.
As Monty says just relax and observe proper precautions.

Covid-19 data. From the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
Number of hospitalized people reported on Saturday, November 7: 988.
Number of hospitalized people reported today Friday, November 13: 1130.
Difference: +142
Mild-moderate and Serious symptoms data. They are already included in the total number of people hospitalized. It should also be remembered that data on severe symptoms are already reflected in the Japan Today article. And there is no need to mention them again in the comments.
Patients hospitalized by COVID in Tokyo Prefecture, per 100,000 inhabitants. Saturday 07/11/2020 was: 7,09.
Patients hospitalized by COVID in Tokyo Prefecture, per 100,000 inhabitants. Today Friday 13/11/2020 is: 8,11.
Reflection 1: Today there are 142 more people admitted to hospitals in Tokyo Prefecture. For coronavirus compared to last Saturday.
Reflection 2: Translated into a rate per 100,000 inhabitants. The coefficient is 8,11 points. Going up by 1.02 points. That corresponds proportionally to the 142 people of difference with last Saturday.
Reflection 3: A score of 8,11. It is not yet a dangerous figure, for the hospital situation. But it does indicate that there is moderate community transmission of the coronavirus.
Reflection 4: The situation is slightly worse than last week. Everything seems to indicate that the 3rd wave. It is starting in Tokyo Prefecture.
That's what the data tell us.

Thanks for the info @dougthehead13, comparison on number of deaths would also contribute to overall picture

@dougthehead13 good post ! I think JT should use this as template when reporting the daily infections .

@dougthehead13
Cheers mate. Good work.

Technically. People might be diying from influenza . Remember even in the early days of covid19 there was a report from China that only avigan sort of worked

This will be my last post here, as I have come to the conclusion, based on seeing the same comments repeated over multiple articles despite evidence clearly presented to the contrary, along with the consistent references to conspiracies, and data frequently misrepresented or misinterpreted (whether intentionally or through lack of understanding) that this site is purely yelling into the void. This is non-partisan and falls on both sides of the issues surrounding covid-19.
I would highly recommend getting your data from multiple sources, preferably from non-profit institutions and government agencies. Good luck to everyone in these trying times.
Do the hustle
That’s over 600 new cases in the greater Tokyo region in a day. Yes, there are a lot people in that region, but it’s pretty clear that whatever measures they are taking to control the spread of the virus are not working. The number of new cases in the region have been growing rapidly this week. How many new cases will it take for Suga to pull his finger out of his bottom and start taking proactive measures to control the virus?

The health professionals of the world have exactly the opposite opinion, and they have the data to sustain it. Your recommendation is mistaken.
It would be trivial for any journalist to corroborate if the numbers were so different from reality. Your guess is based on faulty understanding of how a biased representation is different from testing randomly.
Number of deaths has nothing to do with the definition of a pandemic. And very strong measures are in place all over the world to combat the lethality that has been observed at the beginning. It is not rational to argue that this is not an important disease because it does not kill like others when life is not even close to normal and still the deaths happen.
JOHN BARABAS
Positive PCR Tests do not mean people are sick.
They can pick up old fragments of Old Colds nd Flus if Amplified over 25 in the Lab.
Many Tests around the World are amplified up to 60 which could give you 100 % False Positives.
ALL "Covid" Deaths around the World are mostly elderly with Multiple Underlying Conditions
like Diabetes,Obesity,Smokers ,Late stage Cancers......Even a Positive is given depending who does it Without
testing as "Suspected Positive"...
Raw Beer
Yeah, those who are tied directly or indirectly to big pharma will say that.
There are plenty of respected health professionals who say exactly what I'm saying.
virusrex
Like every single professional association of health workers of the world? so they are all wrong except for the very few that have other interests at mind different from public health?
It is not believable that the world is wrong except for a few people that don't even have data to sustain their opinion.
