A predictable slight decrease along with lower average testing numbers. If both trends continue the number will most likely be less than 100 when the Olympics kicks off. Draw your own conclusions.

The worst seems to be behind us. More than a quarter of adults who wanted the vaccine have got at least their first dose for a total of 30M doses (70-95% efficacy rate.) By October everyone who wants to be vaccinated will get their wish. The others will go about it at their own "peril."

@Reckless

I dont understand your point or problem.

You were one of them!

How exciting news.....

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

I have no idea. But are media organizations in other countries still reporting daily numbers as top stories everyday?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

It’s ridiculous. I asked my ward office for my coupon because the so-called mass vaccination site in Otemachi had a bunch of open slots. All I needed was my coupon number. But the ward office said they couldn’t give me the number over the phone and they would send it to me by regular mail. Of course by the time it arrived two days later all the openings at Otemachi had been booked. Japanese bureaucracy at its finest. Meanwhile, the govt funded company I work for is not vaccinating staff.

14 ( +14 / -0 )

My company was able to secure vaccination bookings for 50 people, so they held a lottery for all interested employees. The vaccinations were scheduled to start on June 28, but yesterday the clinic told my company’s HR that the Ministry of Health was unable to stick to its schedule, and now it’s unclear when they’ll begin to give us vaccinations.

The level of incompetence with the vaccinations in Japan is ridiculous. It honestly feels intentional at this point.

13 ( +14 / -1 )

And the reservation method for Otemachi is nonsensical. You have to enter two separate registration numbers, your date of birth then click on an icon to go to the calendar. When you see it’s full, you gotta go back and enter all the same information over again. It takes forever. Seriously, what is wrong with this country? How do they ever get anything done here?

15 ( +17 / -2 )

Ffs have you been vaccinated? Consider yourself lucky if so. It’s a bureaucratic quagmire like something out of Dilbert.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Stickman

No, at present I choose not to have the vaccine. I did have Covid last year and had less of a reaction than many have from the Vaccine though.

How do they ever get anything done here?

Old Japanese proverb: “if it’s easy, there’s no value in it”.

Same reason you see queues of five hundred people when a new donut shop opens somewhere. The status of having been there on the first day so you can move up in the PTA / Chounaikai Status Log is a great motivator, but somehow it doesn’t feel right if you can just waltz in and get a donut. You gotta work for it.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

False flag recommend you get vaccinated. The virus has changed a lot since last year with all these variants. But it’s your choice. Nobody should be forced to get it. But I do hope you are right about this going away. It’s gone on way too long and we all need to get back to normal.

Stickman

Thanks for the advice but unless a much deadlier and/or contagious variant appears I will probably not have one. At present I have zero concerns regarding Covid in its current form..

carpslidy - I have no idea. But are media organizations in other countries still reporting daily numbers as top stories everyday

Not in Australia. They only report daily case numbers when there are cases to count. There were four new cases in Sydney today. The first new cases in nearly three months. As a result the have taken measures like making masks mandatory on all public transport. They haven’t gone into a lockdown situation, but they will if more cases are found. The cases were traced to a traveler from Melbourne. They were traced within 24 hours and quarantined. There are news alerts on the places he visited requesting anybody who may have encountered him to get tested straight away. It’s a very different scenario to the quasi SOEs in Japan.

Down to 28 death, hopefully, to ZERO very soon.

The fear-mongers will keep arguing that the test numbers are low and that everything is fake. But deaths aren't fake and are the best indicator of the situation.

Hope for the end of this pandemic as soon as possible.

45 deaths according to the government:

To be frank, I’m very skeptical of people who say that they ‘had Covid’ very early in the pandemic. There was one poster who used to say they had it in late 2019. They had no evidence at all, but just attributed their illness to Covid.

I’m thinking some people just had a bad cold or a dose of the flu, self-diagnose, and then say ‘I had Covid! It wasn’t that bad. What are people complaining about?’

9 ( +11 / -2 )

@blvtzpk I wouldn’t discredit everyone who thinks they had Covid. I got extremely sick the beginning of 2020. I never had a fever but a severe cough and I was so weak and tired. I had an x-ray that showed I had walking pneumonia…I asked if it could be Corona and the doctor laughed it off. No medicine could stop the coughing. The end of February I was coughing so hard I broke my rib. A clear and easy to see break on the x-ray. I don’t know if I had corona but I wouldn’t doubt it because they refused to test for it.

FFS:

Bottom line, were you diagnosed by a medical professional who did tests and found that, based on the tests, that you had Covid?

Did the medical professional say you had Covid, or did they say they thought you had Covid?

What steps did you you have to take after you were diagnosed with Covid?

Or are you saying that you self-diagnosed and think you had Covid because you were sick with Covid-like symptoms?

9 ( +9 / -0 )

From a mediator’s ‘objective standpoint’, You both appear to have ‘reached a consensus’ on desiring to “deal in absolute truths”:

- @falseflagsteve 9:05pm: “blvtzpk - Another conspiracy theory? I’m one of those who likes to deal with facts not speculate to confirm my own biases.” -

and

*- @blvtzpk 9:16pm: “FFS - Bottom line, were you diagnosed by a medical prof’l who did tests; Did the professional say Covid, or did they say they thought Covid?; What steps did you you have to take after diagnosed with Covid? - Or, are you saying that you self-diagnosed and think you had Covid because you were sick with Covid-like symptoms?” - *

A response is anticipated. What say you next?

only ‘a whiff’?

Let's get this "I had covid-19 last year" comments out of the way.

The public testing centres own rules and criteria say they will only test those that meet a certain list of symptoms otherwise they will not test you.

Not until late last year could individuals go directly to private labs to be tested.

Small hospitals and clinics do not have the facilities to test and few if any will and instead will refer you to a major medical centre,

Major hospitals with or without testing facilities charge a fee for anyone without a referral ( ¥5,000 and up) and even then if you do not meet the same criteria as those for the public testing centres the test will not fall under national healthcare and if you insist the test will be 100% at your expense.

So anyone claiming to have had covid but say they didn't have any serious symptoms either are going by a "feeling" or they paid 100% out of pocket for testing.

And before some super smart comes along with the comment "the hospital where I go doesn't charge without referral" please spare us this drivel.

Rules were changed again and now even the university hospital near my place now charges after years of not doing so.

So unless the "major" hospital in your are has very few beds ( which means not actually a major hospital) they now charge, exception for chronic illness if you return at least once within a 3 month period.

So conclusion if you had covid-19 and tested you were either quite sick and passed the criteria to be tested or you didn't get tested.

Or

You paid quite a sum to be tested for some strange reason.

Time to end all the lockdowns and restrictions, this thing is under control.

-10 ( +3 / -13 )

388 new cases! That puts the infection rate at 2.8 per 100,000 or pretty much the lowest rate in the world.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Steve- gave you an upvote. Seems no one else here likes facts and optimism. But good to see the rest of Japan has learned to thrive with COVID.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Overall, disappointing @ffs. Numbers and claims remain questionable to the majority here. Perhaps an update/correction/retraction, some response, will be made to the 3-4 early am ‘believers’ at least?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Joseph - 388 new cases! That puts the infection rate at 2.8 per 100,000 or pretty much the lowest rate in the world.

It is not a competition! The goal is to wipe the virus out. Not to compare stats with other countries.

In Sydney we had 4 new cases recently, 26,000 PCR tests done on Friday, constant breathless media reporting, and some of the other hick states (Queensland and W.A.) have already closed their borders to NSW. The vaccination rate here is better than Japan’s.

The differences are staggering. But I wonder what would have happened if we were having the Olympics instead of Tokyo - maybe not so hysterical?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

@ Theresa

I’m not discrediting everyone’s experience, and your experience sounds absolutely awful.

However, I am skeptical of some who claim that they had contracted Covid and then downplay the condition. This is especially the case if they took a test without displaying symptoms, as one poster here claimed.

As some have noted here, how Covid was ‘diagnosed’ in Japan early in the pandemic (see the comments by Reckless and Antiquesaving) was pretty hit and miss. Having a doctor ‘laugh off’ your condition just have been very distressing.

After a stay in hospital and coming out with low immunity, I came down with severe bronchitis (this was prior to the pandemic) and my doctor checked to see if I had pneumonia. Fortunately it was not pneumonia, but the experience was not pleasant at all.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Well done @blvtzpk 1:37pm for ‘acknowledging the very personal suffering of others’ and, also for ‘putting your experiences out there’ for equal scrutiny. - In the long run, we will have seen many different experiences for many different people who possibly came into contact with this potentially-deadly virus and its continuing mutations and variations.

Yours are not just ‘hit&run’, irresponsible comments that only attempt to stress ’ANY positive note’ in order to further their agenda. Despite these reported daily numbers surging up or trickling down, the ‘supporters’ are more concerned with their Games than the overall health, safety & welfare of Japan’s isolated, yet highly enmeshed and interacting people.
