Tokyo reports 4,216 new coronavirus cases; nationwide tally 41,741

The Tokyo metropolitan government on Thursday reported 4,216 new coronavirus cases, down 548 from Wednesday and up 1,896 from last Thursday.

The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo is six, down two from Wednesday, health officials said. The nationwide figure is 159, down four from Wednesday.

Nationwide, the number of reported cases was 41,741. After Tokyo, the prefectures with the most cases were Osaka (3,290), Hokkaido (3,176), Fukuoka (2,424), Aichi (2,373), Okinawa (2,330), Kanagawa (1,841), Saitama (1,774), Hyogo (1,589), Hiroshima (1,504), Shizuoka (1,242), Chiba (1,233), Kyoto (936), Okayama (834), Kagoshima (767), Kumamoto (649), Ibaraki (649), Ishikawa (576), Fukushima (561), Miyazaki (536), Shiga (522), Nagasaki (481), Miyagi (475), Nara (467), Niigata (464), Nagano (446), Aomori (444), Oita (408), Tochigi (408), Kagawa (365), Saga (364), Gunma (362), Fukui (336), Kochi (281), Iwate (276), Wakayama (244), Ehime (241), Toyama (240), Akita (223), and Yamagata (205).

The number of coronavirus-related deaths reported nationwide was 32.

'Oh no! The figures have improved, I hope a new far deadlier and infectious strain emerges... I want to see at least several 0s added to those numbers in the next few weeks.'

While there is a bias towards implementing of restrictions and anti-Japanese government sentiment in this comments section, I do think most people here appreciate fresh perspectives, well argued points, and data rather than "These numbers are good" or "These numbers are bad" comments.

I'm not criticizing your viewpoint as I (and most international democracies) also think the situation is much better today than it was before - just saying.
