The Tokyo metropolitan government on Sunday reported 40 new coronavirus cases, down 26 from Saturday and 20 down from last Sunday. It was the lowest figure for Tokyo so far this year.

The average for Tokyo over the past seven days stands at 60.4.

The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo was 35, unchanged from Saturday, health officials said. The nationwide figure was 335, down 22 from Saturday.

Nationwide, the number of reported cases was 429. Osaka Prefecture had the most cases with 71, followed by Tokyo, Hokkaido (38), Kanagawa (37), Hyogo (31), Aichi (29), Saitama (19) and Chiba (17).

So the ratio of daily infections to (at-the-moment) hospitalization is about 1 to 1…?

Sounds fishy.

Not particularly, that figure is the number of people requiring a ventilator or ECMO, not the total number hospitalized. And most people in that situation require it for up to 14 days.

Great news….. so as a foreigner wanting to visit Japan without permanent residence ….. when will the country start relaxing on that front ?

Things looking very good. Hope this puts the final nail in all the conspiracy theories we have had, especially how dangerous Covid is to the average healthy person. The stats speak for themselves. Still a few suggesting there is another conspiracy with the numbers with the upcoming election, I say it’s times to ignore these types as they are deluded or and unwell.

Lets get out enjoy ourselves and support local businesses whilst taking sensible precautions of course

Cases are meaningless.

I think I'll sit by the side of the road and count each car passing by as an "auto fatality case."

That would be as stupid as what they are doing with these COVID "cases."

How low does it have to go before we can say all is well and let's move on? Just wondering.

Are these numbers confusing someone, again? - (This is “Hysterical!”) - Q: Aren’t Youthe wife”? I think the line you’re looking for here is supposed to be: “I think it’s fabulous…”

I have been tested several times with as little as a concern. It requires a bit of effort but nothing the least competent person can do.

Have you? ...in a public hospital, not private?

That's a big statement.

Got manny doctors and nurse friends that need to go private to get a test.

429 cases. By looking to this number we can conclude that things is getting better each day. If this number keeping falling, the number of zero case will be reality next month. Since we can't foresee the future, we still need to follow all rules.

Hopefully, with this kind of progress, everyone will also have a safe, healthy winter. Someone posted earlier their “lady doc” said flu shots will not be available until December, if that. Continue to wash your hands, please.

In Hokkaido a tiny, slight surge is appearing which I think is yet very negligible... stay cautious and hopeful.

Osaka is currently the largest in case numbers, but out of the large testing numbers (8,435 & 0.8% positive rate; Tokyo: 4032 & 1% positivity). Shouldn't be judgmental and misinterpreted. Better still, Osaka Governor Yoshimura has been very accountable for corona info and course of actions.

Yeah. 40 cases in a densely populated city of 14 million. Totally makes sense. Completely believable. Yup.

I think now is a good time to solve the hospital problems in Japan. Just in case covid comes back.

I wonder how many tests were taken over the last 24 hours to have such an amazingly low number?

According to Tokyo Metro Government figures, 4032, yielding an approximately a 1% positive rate, well under the level that WHO considers appropriate testing.

It's over.

Best not jump the gun. We’ve had too many spouting off with ‘bye-bye Covid’ before the next wave comes or gibberish about the virus burning itself out last year. Time-wasting childishness on the level of reporting bogus trips around Japan.

Japan is in a better position than than it’s ever been since the pandemic started thanks to the low number of useless anti-vaxxers. Thankfully, the useful members of society did their bit to put the country in this position.

Still a fluid situation but the signs are good.

Symptomatic people are tested.

That's untrue.

You need to have fever and coughing for 5 straight days to be categorized as Symptomatic.

You should be able to get a free test if you think that you've been in contact with a sick person.

Sadly you can't get tested in Japan so easily.

You’re right. “Today” is “over@Good. (Perhaps you keep posting that Everyday at 5:30pm, instead of just every-other-day until the ‘hole bloody mess is over.) - Let’s just stay “Cautiously Optimistic” for the time being, eh mate?

Incidentally Monty, FYI, Tokyo this month has had 1,783 cases, compared to the same time last month26,991, compared to 68,503 for August.

Japan, same comparison, (to 16th only, as numbers for today haven't been released yet). This month 11,519, cases, last month 173,398 and 236,412 cases.

Just wonder what next month's comparison will be.

Stay safe people of Japan.
