The Tokyo metropolitan government on Wednesday reported 41 new coronavirus cases, up five from Tuesday and 31 down from last Wednesday.
The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo was 27, up one from Tuesday, health officials said. The nationwide figure was 294, down 18 from Tuesday.
Nationwide, the number of reported cases was 391. Osaka Prefecture had the most cases with 73, followed by Tokyo, Aichi (26), Hyogo (25), Okinawa (20) and Kanagawa (16).
The number of coronavirus-related deaths reported nationwide was 10.

@klausdorth I don't think so, number also depends on the day of a week. Normally is weeknds and Monday are more lower than weekday.

There’s a high possibility the numbers will go up again sometime in the near future, but the useful people makimg up the vaccinated majority have put Japan in a good position to deal with that, despite woeful governance on the issue of hospitals accepting Covid patients.

I think numbers will keep going down unless a new variant emerges. Most Japanese will continue wearing masks, washing hands, etc, out of habit/custom for some time so I don't expect a big change in the trend. In contrast with some other countries like England where they have basically stopped wearing masks and numbers are going up again.

Perhaps when it isn't causing significant disruptions to the country, such as not allowing people to come visit from other countries. Japan is buttoned up like it's still 1746.
