Several prefectures have now opened free PCR testing for all who wants it from this weekend, so we will most definitely see now they are free for all.

It is only taking 2 years for Japan to catch with the rest of the world.

The Ministry of Health indicates that the CT Threshold for PCR tests is generally set between 30-35. Maybe the low test numbers reflect a move away from using a method that is regarded as unreliable?

The PCR treshold its optimized according to the specifics of the method, that means it is the value with higher sensitivity and specificity for that specific primers, chemistry, etc. the PCR is the gold standard for detection of the infection, that means it is the most reliable available.

I don't know why a doctor who has identified a commonality of symptoms in patients would go through the process of PCR testing to confirm their findings when they could just treat and be done with it.

Because it completely changes the prognosis, it is the same as a patient with some abdominal pain, anyone can just give a painkiller but it could also be something much more serious that could require a different treatment.

It also affects the people that have been in contact with that patient, a cough is not that much a problem for anybody, but if when it happens to someone taking care of elderly patients it is very important to know if it is COVID.

No one seems to be panicking here… neighborhoods are vibrant, busy with shoppers and diners bracing one of the coldest days this season..

Thanks for the update, jkctlr89 I don't know what to think,

There is part of me that thinks UK has lost the plot. There is reports of door to door boosters.

It's my family there I worry about.

People can't believe Japan's numbers.

Why is this a surprised for you?

I remember people overseas laughing at Japanese wearing mask before Covid19 happened. Was always part of the culture. No one is laughing anymore.

Covering your mouth when talking or soft spoken is also a good thing and was seen by some in negative way.

Washing your hands, taking bath, keeping your environment clean, animals are treated well, polite people who have a habit of staying safe and protecting others. This should not be a surprised if you look at the culture and people.

UK daily cases 122,186 people tested positive, reported on 24 December 2021

Tokyo one of the most densely populated cities on earth, 43 new coronavirus cases, up five from Saturday and 10 more than last Sunday.

What do you make of this?

It seems covid is more widespread in the UK than in Tokyo, one of the most densely populated cities on earth

Lol, yeah right. I can really see everyone with no/mild symptoms wasting time during their holidays to get tested with the potential reward of quarantine.

There's no need to say it

They certainly are 'vibrant' in my local Shotangei right now. Will be more so after a few sticks of Chicken and Beer. Your sarcasm is lost on me @John Noun

ests conducted in the UK 24 Dec ‘21: 1,582,378

Tests conducted in Japan 24 Dec ‘21: 51,328

Make of that what you will.

The result is 7.2 % from this test got positive in United Kingdom.

The result is 0.08% from this test got positive in Japan.

I understand that your point was to prove that the number of test is important, but it doesn't change the fact that the number of percentage of new cases is way less than England in therms of percentage of number of new cases.

Just in case you inssist on this:

51.528 x 30 = 1539840

43 x 30 = 1290

In other words, on the worst scenary, if we make the number of test in Japan equal to England we would have 1290 that is far behind the number 122.186 from United Kingdom.

Still, this is good news nonetheless!

Nationalwide 316 cases.

316 x 30 = 9480

9480 vs 122.186 in United Kingdom.

Very high today!

Please be careful.
