This looks bad when you see data as shown at this site comparing same numbers one week prior

https://omatomesan.com/tokyo-covid19/

last seven days report shows Tokyo numbers are higher than previous week

today number is 98 more than last week

Addenda

Out of last seven days six days shows increase from previous week

I stand corrected. I was fully expecting another strategic decrease to appease the IOC.

I eagerly await the appearance of our IOC / LDP plants to tell us, 1984-style, that 435 is actually less than 236.

Numbers going up. Positivity rate still high.

Oh I am shocked Tuesday and the numbers nearly double!

Naahh not shocked just like every week as people desperate to be tested but rejected by public health centres testing turn to private labs open weekdays.

Check the infection "rate" not the numbers of infected.

The official rate has remained around 5% nothing has changed.

To make it clear the rate is the number of positive cases in relation to the number of tests.

The infection rate has barely changed in months the only thing that changed are lower numbers of test.

If the infection rate was lower as well as the number of tests then we can actually say things are improving but this is not what is happening and the rate has remained the same.

I bet it will hit 1000 within 2 weeks, accompanied by plenty of media attention (blame) focused on foreign athletes that have tested positive.

I stand corrected. I was fully expecting another strategic decrease to appease the IOC.

The one thing the government or IOC cannot control are people using private labs and paying out of pocket.

In Tokyo public health centres are testing fewer than 2,000 a day everything else are people desperate to be tested paying for private testing.

So Monday's numbers are from Sunday's test done by the public health centres Tuesday's are from Monday's tests that now include private labs often closed on weekends.

Not good at all. And on the same day the dropkicks announced there will be 10,000 fans in venues.

1,532 tests - 28% positive rate. Testing is approx 400 less than previous week (taken on Sunday) Its beyond a sham at this point.

Gen HXZ - thanks for sharing the shamefully poor testing rate. Where do you get your figures for the number of tests?

I get mine from here https://stopcovid19.metro.tokyo.lg.jp/en and although the numbers rarely break the 7,000 barrier, they haven't announced something so woefully shameful as 1532 yet.

Would you share your sources? The world needs to know!

Derek - Its a sub-page from the same site - https://stopcovid19.metro.tokyo.lg.jp/en/cards/number-of-tested

Since the positive numbers were announced for today and I posted that 1532 testing number as was reported on the site, tonights new data has bumped Sunday's testing number up by 256. If any positive cases from those would expect to be included tomorrow and I have seen testing data 4 days old getting changed - I guess that is why they use a 7 day 'moving average'

@Derek Grebe

The original number of tests done on Sunday was just over 1,500 but later updates puts it at 2,143 for Tokyo.

Now the problem we get is that Tokyo is unfortunately very difficult to understand clearly how they do things.

Now Sunday positive numbers on Tokyo government site is 376 but Monday's is 236 positive.

So if we go with the official positivity rate of 4.3%

The only conclusion is the following

Saturday test done 5,247 the positive numbers are the Sunday's 376 number.

Sunday's test done 2143 the number of positive is the Monday's 236

But even then my calculations put Sunday's infection rate at 11% and Saturday's at 7% far higher than bthe 7 day average of 4.3%

If we use the dates of the number as if Sunday cases and Sunday tested as in the government graphics the the infection rates are well over 20%.

If you don't think things are getting better it is time to check your objective bias level.

Millions and millions of vaccines injected every week. Numbers in prefectures such as Hokkaido, where they are lauded for their accuracy, are down to a measly 29 cases! Sorry to burst your bubble, but Japan is coming out of this.

@Objective

If the rate of infection has not changed then things are not any better just the testing is lower.

This is simple logic.

@Objective

So let me guess Japan is so special it does thing special that no other country can or thought of and it's system is again special unique, blah blah blah....

Seriously this Japan is different and special thing get tiring.

Not a single member of my 2 extended Japanese families believe the government numbers and laugh ever time I show them comments from foreigners making excuses for failed testing and Vaccination.

A 25% increase from yesterday. It would seem the spread of this virus after more than a year of dithering is still far from under control. Japan has got to stop stuffing around with this highly contagious and deadly virus and get serious about wiping it out or this quasi SOE malarkey will go on for decades. The vaccine is not the silver bullet they are plugging it to be. In order for vaccines to be effective the virus must be wiped out first. Those who have been vaccinated can still carry and spread the virus. Just the same as a normal flu vaccine.

Gonna be an interesting summer
