Isn't Thursday the day with the heaviest number of cases?
how come the total number of tests is no longer reported?
hatsufred
Ok so now keep mass vaccination centres running for the next 6 months. yes after the Olympics
hatsufred
The numbers with severe symptoms in Tokyo is down, of course we will not mention those who cannot get a hospital bed. These numbers are meaningless
bokuda
It says 1,717 of PCR test in Tokyo on 6/6
I must be wrong. 25.6% os positives is pretty wild.

Numbers will be rising again, there are limits to manipulating them. I wonder if we will again see more than 100 deaths today.

This sums it up http://www.japansubculture.com/japan-solves-coronavirus-crisis-with-magical-math/
Btw, the page https://toyokeizai.net/sp/visual/tko/covid19/en.html may want to change certain graphs. There's an inconsistency like hell atm.

Some here are either on drugs or can't count.
Going on about numbers going down but they keep going up since the weekend.

The number of deaths aren't. And those numbers can't be hidden by testing (or rather lack of). But feel free to stay on cloud cuckoo land.

Testing trending down in the last 4 weeks but they can't hide the elephant in the room (and Monday is the highest testing count in the week) May 10th - 15,725 / May 17th - 15,139 / May 24th - 12,540 / May 31st 11,720 / June 7th 10,169

Gov response: Oh, numbers are dropping, we can slow down the vaccinations and charge people to spectate at the olympics; but bars still have to close early.
drlucifer
The number of serious cases is down 44 and number of deaths is 94 how come the number of deaths is always higher than the reductions in serious cases, does it mean there are deaths from less serious covid cases ? Don't think all the 44 people passed away but even if they did the does it mean that the remaining 50 people who passed away were less serious. ? I am confused. Has anybody an explanation.

Cases rising. Positivity rate rising again.

While being optimistic is good, the tendency of some to ‘count their (‘normality’) chickens before they hatch’ does get tiresome.

That's not how pandemics work.
You need 85% for herd immunity.
There virus gets exponentially stronger the more time you waste.

I'm still wondering whether suicides are considered Covid-related deaths.

Umm...
Exactly, and just to add to that, a low number of people who want the vaccine has no causal role in reducing infected numbers. A bit of logical thinking will tell you that a high rate of vaccine hesitancy that you cite here (don't know if those figures are accurate or where you got them from btw), ie low takeup of the vaccine will create a pool of virus vulnerable, and the higher the number of cases in this population, the greater the probability of stronger variants emerging. It doesn't respect snail's pace decision-making and can completely change the picture in mere weeks, as is happening for example in England:
So while one epidemic wave might be subsiding, a parallel wave could be on the rise. Given that there have been cases of the Delta variant identified in Japan, and it is estimated to be 50% more infectious, there is an urgent need for proper testing and honest reporting of testing. Without this, Japan is flying blind.

And the issue with the numbers from Our World in Data here is that the people compiling the data pull the number from the website of the Prime Minister's Office of Japan which funnily enough is wrong for the elderly. They provide PDFs with numbers for every day for the two groups that are currently receiving the vaccine (medical workers and elderly). On their main page they say that 10,715,746 doses overall have been administered to the elderly of which 861,579 were on June 8. When you check the PDF with numbers for every day and add them up, you also end up with 10,715,746. The big difference here is that it only lists 477,465 doses for June 8. Where the additional 384,114 doses on the website come from, I don't know, but I pointed at that issue a few days ago already. The numbers they have released on their page (not in the PDF) don't add up and the number of doses would have to be much higher.

It is the media that created a panic and made everything political. WIthout all the emotional propaganda, we could have a rational conversation.
oldman_13
Clearly the infection rate has drastically slowed down, not that it was ever as panic inducing as some here made it out to be. Time to start opening up the country as others have done.

@drlucifer
Was already explained by someone else, bit do not remember who. So, as explanation, using imaginary figure :
100 people left intensive care
56 people were put in intensive careThus you have the 44 persons reduction.
Among the 100 leaving intensive care :
85 died
15 went to another serviceThen 9 person died without going throught intensive care.
Thus you have the 94 deaths.

I don't suppose Suga's government is willing to concede that their quasi-SOE's are completely useless now?
You can't have the entire nation reporting for work and thinking that staying at home during their off time is going to accomplish anything.

@Zaphod
Unfortunately standards for journalism have changed or probably more appropriate to say nonexistent now.
But it is not just the media. There's so much information and misinformation out there and it fall to us individuals to be discerning.
We all know that in most cases information presented to us is packaged so it leads us to think a certain way.
We know that so we must conscious ly guard against being easily misled. Ultimately what we believe in is our responsibility.
Goodlucktoyou
I’ve had to tests in the last month. I live in the countryside. Can you really believe these figures?

Why not wait until tomorrow to find out?

My advice is to sit back chillax at home and let the virus run its course in other word bunker up and hide

Where you get that phantastic number from? Overall mortality from this thing is in the 0.5% range, and much less for those under 70. And you can expect much less for all age groups, seeing that morbid obesity is minimal here, compared to e.g. over 30% in the US.
carpslidy
The virus effectively ends when everyone who wants a vaccine has had one.
After that if you refuse to be vaccinated and get corona that's on you.
People aren't going to keep wearing masks and accept s.o.e 's when the majority have been vaccinated.
I guarantee japan will have one of the highest vacation rates in the world by December, people don't want to be ostracized and in japan by the fall not being vaccinated is going to be a major shame.
Akula
Over 1M vaccinations done in a day according to most recent figures. Japan has really started to get its vaccination program rolling, at almost 20M doses now. Some positive signs, just wish they'd started earlier. They really need to get to 1.5M a day if they can.
https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations?country=JPN
Objective
Zoroto...Death rate is unknown since we don't know how many people have Covid. As you have stated before, they don't test too much in Japan. We do know the number of deaths though.
We also know that the number of people that test positive for Covid is dropping. In prefectures like Hokkaido, where they are praised for their accurate reporting, it has dropped significantly.
Vaccines are finally rolling in massive numbers, over 500,000 a day. This will reach 1M per day before the end of June. The worst is behind us. This is something to be happy about. The past does not equal the future.
Objective
Zoroto...actually I was wrong... there were 1 million doses administered over 24 hours (June 7-8).
https://www.sankei.com/article/20210608-UHNN3DS4QFJFTF2VCKIWUHIZSY/
Only 60% of the adult population want the vaccine so it won't take too much time to get the infected numbers down to a very manageable level. I will do my part and help the cause by letting someone older than me get my dose.

Pukey
The deaths went down from yesterday, what do you mean?
falseflagsteve
Good low numbers, city I live in Osaka is doing great. Normality is almost upon us again, the vaccinations will help us end the situation even faster. My advice is to take sensible precautions but don’t panic.
NipponGlory
the vaccine roll out at full speed is doing very good to keep covid down.

Finally it surpassed the lucky 300 figure Tokyo loves. Good sign that the infected are decreasing
