If the jgov keeps hiding the test numbers, these are meaningless.

487 with cold and flu symptoms tested positive for Covid at registered testing clinics. Nobody knows how many other new cases are really out there.

if a Japanese person tests positive, the neighborhood may burn their house down...so difficult in times of paranoia.

Both my children's companies warned their employees to not tell anyone they had positive cases in the company, anyone opening their mouth would be fired, no telling means not even family.

Needless to say neither listened and told me.

But I am sure most co-workers kept quiet.

Testing for Tokyo is located here: https://www.fukushihoken.metro.tokyo.lg.jp/hodo/2021/index.html

Look for the daily report called: 新型コロナウイルスに関連した患者の発生

It contains the previous 3 day test figures, but they update over those three days. Currently last weeks tests were down around 11% week on week; so based on that the Tokyo +ve results are the same level as last week ( actually 101 less at 4452 ), +ve ratio 8.1% last week, 8.2% week before that, 9.7% three weeks ago.

More deaths in Japan daily than all the total cumulative cases ( not deaths) in Melbourne under strict lockdown. Ten time or more the number of tests than Tokyo there too, And then todays news was all about the number of cases of the Indian variant , sorry Delta variant, increasingly being found in many place in Japan from just a few samples they actually send for testing about this. And of course what they find is just the tip of the iceberg, they are not even testing all the case they find let alone the ones they don't even test at all.

NHK reporting that a brand-new corona virus variant has been found in Kobe. The infected man hadn't been abroad recently.

So this is the second Japanese variant? What can we call them? Epsilon and Kappa?

The number of daily deaths is NOT decreasing. Meanwhile UK had ZERO covid-related deaths yesterday and one the day before. And yet UK allows Japanese visitors but Japan doesn't allow UK visitors. OK, noted.

What is the situation in the hospital emergency rooms in Tokyo ? That would let you know closer to the real situation.

Someone just took the ‘gatekeeping’ to a new level.

- @Yubaru 5:28pm - “Message to people in mainland Japan.... PLEASE stay home! We have enough spreaders on our own down here, and dont need any more!” -

But, we guess it’s warranted since the J government never did a good job of it.

Viruses mutate if left to run rampant. Nothing to do with foreigners or travelling abroad, but the Japanese government won’t say so, it’s easier to scapegoat others than admit you’ve completely mishandled the crisis.

Don’t think anyone with sense would look at the UK as the ideal way to solve this.

I'm talking about NOW. I am no fan of Boris Johnson - he has been an incompetent, bumbling idiot who didn't give a damn, but the good thing is that 2020 has shocked his cabinet into doing something and it's working. Bolsonaro and Trump will never be shocked into doing anything, even after both got infected.

Japan is the one running the Olympics and yet has done sod all in all of 1.5 years. Things have not improved, it will just go on and on. And it's been estimated that real numbers could be up to 10 times as much as the official stats in Japan. People are being left to die at home. Are you counting?

I know you believe in these insane conspiracy theories and that there's nothing to worry about - but some of us are actually on planet Earth.

Unless they forked out 25000-30000 yen for a private test

I wonder why people keep making this comment, ? The only people who would be forking out this much for a test are "healthy" and will be travelling abroad, and need the documentation.

Otherwise, "privately" people get tests done from around 2,000 yen and up!

Does anyone have a link to the mortality in Japan data for 2020? I don't mean reporting on the data, but the actual data itself (for example, https://www.e-stat.go.jp). I can only find datasets for 2014 at the latest, which means these claims regarding mortality are unprovable either way. I do believe the reporting of a decline in total deaths, however that really doesn't give enough info.

Test numbers are pretty much meaningless anyway.....WAAAAAY too much weight has been lent to test numbers......the stats that matter are people developing severe symptoms and number of deaths. If these are climbing, there is a problem....if they aren't then we are coping with it fine.

Are there any ‘documented cases’ (when & where)’ @Antiquesaving 6:08Pm of this kind of violence/actions against neighbors who tested positive for the virus? (Obviously you’ve 1st referred to someone else’s prior post no longer listed here):

- “@Antiquesaving 6:08pm - “...if a Japanese person tests positive, the neighborhood may burn their house down...so difficult in times of paranoia.” - A: “Both companies warned employees to not tell they had positive cases, would be fired, not even family,... But sure most co-workers kept quiet.” -

Haven’t seen such stories here, TR, or mainstream like Asahi, Mainichi, Yomiuri...

Covid deaths, not all deaths.

You can't hide deaths. There are records of births. The people who say there are unrecorded covid deaths should be able to show the increase in other deaths above standard years. Yet none of them have shown this.

@Tom Doley

The government is not "hiding the test numbers". They are available at any number of sites.

For example:

https://www.mhlw.go.jp/stf/covid-19/kokunainohasseijoukyou.html

The idea that the central government controls tests like a bouncer at a club is inaccurate. The majority of tests appear to come from private clinics, and are performed when a person shows symptoms or has some other reason to be tested. The fact that test numbers are dropping is most likely due to the drop in demand.

This does not mean the gov. is doing a good job. Far from it. But the latest wave is (for the moment) going down. What will happen after the Olympics get started is a whole other question...

How do you know? Japan’s testing numbers are laughable, more people could have died that never got to hospital.

Where's the proof? It's been a year, it would take a MASSIVE conspiracy to hide an increase in deaths from covid. So where are the bodies, where are the numbers? If there was a cover up, the numbers are still out there, just massaged in some way. Are you telling me that not a single person in Japan has managed to figure it out?

People claiming there must have been more deaths than reported never seem to be able to answer where they hid the bodies, and they think that somehow this MASSIVE secret would be able to be hidden. As if that's Occam's razor.

Luddite

How do you know? Japan’s testing numbers are laughable, more people could have died that never got to hospital.

I wonder how you "know" whatever it is. Tests are inconsistent and unreliable (just how many cycles do think are correct for PCR test --- if you do, pls tell the various bureaucracies), however deaths are a reliable figure, at least in places like Japan and the UK.

Fwiw, overall death rates (from all causes) have not changed much in 2020 and 2021 (apart from two spikes in the UK in March last year and Feb this year), so the data show that a lot of these Corona deaths are just a question of labelling.

Wouldnt worry about it, flu mutates all the time and doesn’t end up killing everyone. People need to chill out, in a year or two Covid will be a distant memory.
