The Tokyo metropolitan government on Monday reported six new coronavirus cases, down 14 from Sunday and one down from last Monday.
The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo is eight, down one from Sunday, health officials said. The nationwide figure is 63, up one from Sunday.
Nationwide, the number of reported cases was 50. Two coronavirus-related deaths were reported.

Correction to my above comment - 6 cases refer to Tokyo, not Japan. But it's still suspiciously low.
Fighto!
Yes.
Its called VACCINATION.

Oh dear. The Japanese people I know aren't laughing. They also don't believe the utter nonsense spouted by the government regarding infection numbers.
Kuruki
These numbers don't make sense at all. Infection numbers do not just steeply drop like this when barely any measures have been taken. In comparison, Australia (which has higher vaccination and testing rates and which also closed off international borders AND state borders) have higher case numbers than Japan.
It would be good to see the numbers of tests reported in future articles otherwise these numbers really don't mean much.
FYI, Japan has one of the lowest testing rates in the developed world (0.37 per 1000), which probably explains how Japan "miraculously" reduced COVID numbers to 6 cases.

why would anyone downvote this comment? - is it because you don't approve of alcohol?
some folks are just absolutely miserable.

Off to the pub to celebrate. Well done Japan.

too cold and wet in Tokyo to head to the pub unfortunately.
Fighto!
Barely any measures? Really?
By far the biggest measure a gov't can take is vaccination - and this has been done to just about all the vulnerable in Japan. There are not tens of millions of rabid anti vaxxers as we see in the US and parts of the EU and Russia. Simple as that.
There are no mysteries or miracles at play. Just vaccination. These numbers make sense.

Some people will believe anything.

There is a lot what other countries can learn from Japan.
In Japan covid-19 infections are significantly down.
It's a big success for Japan. Hopefully it continues like that and another wave will be less powerful.

Amazing. While other countries are once again implementing restrictions, Japan has shown that there's a way out of this dark cloud without having to resort to authoritarian measures.
The approach here encouraged individual responsibility and the government have been vindicated in pursuing this measure. Even in other countries which fared only slightly better (i.e., Taiwan and South Korea), a heavy handed restrictive response was taken.
I know where I would rather live - that's here in Japan.

The comedy continues.

Is Japanese govt manipulating or other govts manipulating?
ian
Anyway, been some time now since the elections, people should have come up now with a new reason for govt manipulating the numbers.
Nothing yet?

On the contrary their conditions get worse and they die.
Where are the bodies?

It seems to me some people are very envious of Japan's incredible success.
When Japan opens its border freely and so many tourists would come to Japan as same as before, Japanese really need 3rd jab in case of another wave as antibody is getting weaker after 6 months.
ian
It's easy to manipulate numbers.
The sick however don't get well if you just tried to hide tjem
didou
No need to push for a 3rd jab
