@rainman1 Most of the countries are planning for exit plan. Japan still don't have. I only need to wait. Hee hee...... I wish for better days.

I personally hope so, too though the dominant public opinion remains hesitant and critical about the border reopening. It won't probably happen until the end of October when the general elections are held. Priority is to further reinforce healthcare services countering next waves (which I think is sensible and publicly most agreeable).

If the number of infected people keep decreasing, so around november we will able to go to other cities safety, which doesn't mean we should low our guard.

I find it very hard to tolerate your 'hee hees' every day. Yes, many countries have an exit plan. Japan doesn't. Yet. Where will you be coming from?

With numbers this low why are fully vaccinated returning residents still being made to self isolate?

Hopefully goodbye to the Covid business for now at least. It’s unpredictable but we can take comfort from knowing that the fear mongering was incorrect.

Could well be herd immunity from vaccines and cases, doesn’t really matter if things stay low.

I dispute these figures,in my county we have upward of 500 cases a day sometimes and we have 1/50th of the population of Tokyo,they are not random testing like in the US, lots of people are with no symptoms, thousand have no symptoms and are spreading it in Tokyo

Just relax. That’s not the case

Starting to look like some real progress. For as critical as everyone was (myself included) about the slow vaccine rollout, they certainly ramped up quick and got a lot of people vaccinated.

Personally, I can't wait to be able to resume my family's trips to visit the in-laws in Tohoku. Our 4-year old son hasn't seen his grandparents in person since late 2019. Technically we can all get in now, myself included being married to a national, but as onsen enthusiasts, and also with lots of friends we like to visit, we aren't so keen on being holed up in quarantine for most of our trip.

Time to open some travel lanes with countries with low infection.

Now that the number of infections is waning, its a good opportunity for scientists and researchers to be bold and prepare for the next pandemic. It could be much worse. More money and resources should be put into research, especially the type that involves studying how coronavirus transfers from animals to humans. Its paramount that scientists get ahead, and even predict what that virus might look like in order to create a vaccine for it. We need to support this type of research, I think they call it "gain of function" . Must be bold and steadfast.
