Yesterday night, it was on Japanese TV:

From January 8 to February 8, the share of 65+ years old in daily infection count increased from 11% to 25.65% in a weekly average.

It's inconsistent and illogical increase especially during SoE.

There isn't any better proof of selective and repressed testing since the declaration.

If virus was so deadly and contagious I would have Been hospitalized by now as I have two kids going to school everyday including the commuting to office on train

Maybe you've just got lucky so far.

Maybe you've had it and remained asymptomatic - in which case lucky you.

If you have had it and remained asymptomatic, maybe you passed it on to someone on the train. I wonder what happened to that person? I hope they were as lucky as you.

So I think we've seen enough now to be able to say with a high degree of certainty that more and more people are being 'forced' into taking tests at private clinics in order to manipulate the 'official' numbers downwards.

Unfortunately if you look in more depth you can see that the number of 'official' deaths have continued to increase. This clearly doesn't compute with what they are asking us to believe.

Is this consolidated public and private records? I read in Reuters that these reports are only from public health centers and does not include private tests.

That’s on average not even 45 tests per prefecture. What’s going on here? Is the SOE necessary or has the virus suddenly showed mercy and completely disappeared?

Shouldn’t the new cases of local transmissions be close to zero after a month of state of emergency? I’ll bet the number of new cases doesn’t change after another month of SOE.

Nothing, if you don’t do it correctly. Anyway, contact tracing allows direct contacts of the people who “publicly” tested positive to be outright tested. Now that they limited the contact tracing to only the old and vulnerable, those in direct contact with the positives will not be tested, hence will not be included in the numbers. Oh My Graphs.

Oh, boy! Sone people just don’t get it, do they? People can carry and spread the virus without symptoms. This is why random testing is important. Only testing those with symptoms is why the virus keeps spreading in Japan. Tokyo should be testing at least 20,000 people a day instead of 2,000. Tokyo will never be rid of this virus with their placid approach to controlling it.

Hopefully, there's a lag between the cases and the deaths. Current deaths must be coming from the surge in positive cases reported in early January. Fingers crossed.

So it means that if 10’000 tests would be made, with this percentage, roughly 3000 cases only in tokyo....

The cases are never going to stop it means .... travel is never going to end.

The deaths should come down soon. If not, we should seriously question the case numbers.

from all the stuff I hear from my friends who work in schools, when the students do PE and club activities most don't even bother wearing masks. Schools are a very good place to spread the virus, and until they implement learning from home, I expect the numbers to keep rising

True, but look into their profiles, majority are very old. Some have died at late 80s to 100s, beyond the nation's average. The trend has been consistent since the pandemic outset.

Of 32 dead reported today in Tokyo, 12 at 90s, 14 at 80s, 4 at 70s, and 2 at 60s (no info published about their preexisting conditions). RIP.

Notice that more than 3,000 die everyday in Japan; last year Japan's total death toll decreased despite the pandemic.

The last part is the one i particularly want to know.

I was hoping that when all this has passed the total overall deaths during the period we have this pandemic would be less than the overall deaths in the regular years.

However even though that seems to be the case for the last year its troubling that many of those were due to increased cases of unnatural causes like suicides and killing of family members

Why don't they ever report the number of recovered? Always fear! FEAR!

I have no idea how well other countries do it but Japan is supposed to be good at it, one of the reasons they were able to keep a handle on things until now.

Retrospective contact tracing is i think what they call it, tracing back the main/original sources of infection and identfying clusters are the main goals

Google the news re successful contact tracing by Aus and NZ for the answer.

So two relatively small countries have successfully implemented contact tracing. But you forgot to mention that they also implemented a total shut down in areas affected. No other countries have been able to do this. So explain to me again why CT is so important?

More than 200 60 or older. Doesn't look good for the level of hospitalizations and deaths. But if you don't contact trace and otherwise impede testing, you just end up testing the sickest people.

Which is exactly what Japan has done since the beginning. It worked then. It's possible it might work just enough now before vaccinations begin.

The trend is going in the right direction. Well done!

The numbers are staying at lower levels than previous weeks. A good trend. It won't please the doom and gloom merchants on this site who would prefer everyone in Japan had the virus.
