Then there's the people that refuse to receive the vaccine and boosters because nobody knows the long-term effects of receiving the vaccine and boosters.

Only time will tell who was truly responsible or irresponsible.

Yes and the time is now.

Unvaccinated are dying a lot more than the vaccinated

The given reasons for refusal could be described as apathy. "It makes no difference either way." "The side effects are worse than the virus." "It doesn't work for variants." "I don't want to continue getting them forever". Yadda yadda, you've heard it before.

I'm guessing by evaluating the circumstances through a perspective unencumbered by the heuristics of emotional judgements they discovered the truth is that healthy people don't get sick

Your examples show that their evaluations were encumbered emotionally

There are those people that have received the vaccine and boosters with the firm belief that they are being responsible and caring and think they made a wise decision.

Then there's the people that refuse to receive the vaccine and boosters because nobody knows the long-term effects of receiving the vaccine and boosters.

Only time will tell who was truly responsible or irresponsible.

Fortunately in Japan receiving the vaccine is a choice not a mandatory.

That's appalling. Is there a reason for this, @Yubaru?

All I can share is what these guys told me. One told me directly, that he had extreme difficult breathing, felt like he was passing out, fever of 42C, and his roommate called an ambulance, as he was loosing consciousness.

He was taken to an emergency room, the doctors got him on oxygen, and managed to bring his fever down, to around 39C, and then he was transferred to a hotel. The hotel had a nurse 24/7 and the doctor only came when called upon.

He asked why he wasnt in the hospital, as being alone, first time ever sick like this, scared, and the doctor told him, "We have to keep the available beds open for elderly and more "serious" patients.

Come to find out from others, that basically the doctors are saying the same thing.

Folks down here seem to be totally numb to the "numbers", and if things keep up as they are, over10% of the entire prefecture of Okinawa will have tested positive within the next week to 10 days. (Plus minus a percentage point or so, for individuals with multiple infections)

If there is one thing I have learned over the course of the past two years, is that there is no black and white answer for the severity of the infection in each person.

Too many here state, "Oh it's no big deal for younger people". But there are huge differences depending on the person. I know of a number of "young" people, in their early 20's, who caught Omicron, and had dangerously high fevers, 42C, could not breathe well, and were taken to hospitals in ambulances, and then transferred to hotels, once stabilized, for their period of recovery and quarantine. They were told, by the doctors in the hospitals, that (quote here) "Young people dont need to be hospitalized! It's for the elderly only"

(Oh NO, ZERO, ZIP, ZILCH, preexisting conditions what so ever!)

Government and medical authorities playing numbers games!

I also know elderly who have caught it as well, and had ZERO symptoms.

Point is, there is no general answer, no blanket diagnosis, no way to state that "everyone is the same"

Each person is different, but to keep another SOE from occurring, prefectural authorities are play number games with hospitalized patients, because now prefectures are basing their criteria for them on the number of patients hospitalized vs total number of infections.

Even with serious symptoms, hospitals here are putting patients in hotels, rather than hospitalizing them!

They're not nothing. Do you have another explanation for the slight uptick in week on week case numbers?

Slight? Where are you focused on? We have had three days in a row of over 1,000 cases here in Okinawa, and are a "Japan worst" nearly 370 per 100,000.

Specific to and ONLY Japan, what truly hasn’t been “normal” for most ? All answer are welcomed and be specific to Japan. As I. Japan, we’ve never really had any serious restrictions. So be specific. I for 1 certainly hope a new variant deadlier than the deadliest variant in JAPAN , Omicron does not come along. The minority are either gonna get with the program or get hospitalized. It has been oft repeated and a patently false statement/ prediction that “all will be infected.” Some or one has been attempting to spread that false narrative and fear all year long . Please do if you’re in the majority of the responsible vaccinated adults , go out and responsibly enjoy life while trying your best to avoid (if possible) the naysaying anti everything as related to Covid.

Life as normal for most now it seems. Unless a much deadlier appears from nature or lab it will remain this way. Some still have what I would consider irrational fears from the current situation, but they are a small minority

Hope everyone enjoys the better weather and has a good time with their friends and family.

“They're not nothing. Do you have another explanation for the slight uptick in week on week case numbers?”

Yes ! Highly irresponsible people, the “minority” who are anti everything as related to Covid.

Every country has had and still has some form of border controls in place .

The UK, Ireland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and probably loads of other countries have lifted all Covid entry restrictions.

I clearly stated has or has had border controls. Some countries leadership have chosen to be reckless with public health.

I do not live in the country of Tokyo.

Maybe where you are - don't really know. But in Tokyo, I can say it has been different. Many places I go to worry about reputational damage from non compliance and they follow the requests.

I live in Iwaki, Fukushima. I don’t comply with requests because they’re requested . I follow the requests because I care about myself, my family, co-workers and the general public at large . These requests have never been harsh or draconian as many constantly whine about . There are ways to responsibly “get on” with life .

the most deadly variant of Covid in Japan

Omicron is the variant presenting the lowest risk of death or hospitalization so far.

Get vaccinated or boosted.

Omicron , Jan 1, 2022 - March 31, 2022 have been the deadliest 3 months from Covid than the next top 3 months combined. So YES! Omicron is in fact the deadliest variant of Covid in Japan to date. Add in that it’s also the most virulent and there’s the problem. Imagine how bad it’d be with the majority of responsible people being vaccinated?

I’m vaccinated and boosted . Yes … the booster really kicked my butt for 2 days . But as previously stated, I care about myself, my family, the public. It is not inevitable that everyone will be infected. And the already strained healthcare system can’t handle worse than the last 90 days.

Seriously though what are all the negative posters reasonings for wanting to lock down again?

I doubt any of them would/will be happy until life is confined to a 1K aparto and food deliveries are carried out by drone…I mean really??? Get a life!

Thankfully Covid has evolved to a less dangerous strain which is comparable to a serious cold or flu. Now it should be treated as such! It is not Ebola or Polio…it is a Corona virus which people seem to have forgotten is the same as a Cold or influenza virus! Time to move on people the world has had enough of the scare mongers and fear campaigns!

The fake SOE’S haven’t really restricted anything.

They're not nothing. Do you have another explanation for the slight uptick in week on week case numbers?

Every country has had and still has some form of border controls in place .

The UK, Ireland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and probably loads of other countries have lifted all Covid entry restrictions.

As for the SOE’S, we’ve been relatively free to do as we wish during the entire pandemic so far .

Maybe where you are - don't really know. But in Tokyo, I can say it has been different. Many places I go to worry about reputational damage from non compliance and they follow the requests.

the most deadly variant of Covid in Japan

Omicron is the variant presenting the lowest risk of death or hospitalization so far.

Get vaccinated or boosted.

80% of the over-65s in Japan are now boosted. Which is another good reason to relax restrictions.

-8 ( +4 / -12 )

I think most of us can agree it's time to move on now. If you haven't already had omicron, it's going to come knocking sooner or later. Unless you're old and sick you've, or unvaccinated, you have little to fear.

-8 ( +7 / -15 )

The fake SOE and real border controls are not associated or attached or dependent on the other. The fake SOE’S haven’t really restricted anything. So people need to stop beating that drum . Every country has had and still has some form of border controls in place . But Japan’s have been way too long and way too strict. I’m hoping they can find a sensible balance for the borders sooner than later. As for the SOE’S, we’ve been relatively free to do as we wish during the entire pandemic so far . And here we are , new year starting and the most deadly variant of Covid in Japan to date is still raging outta control with it’s even more contagious cousin BA2 on the way . Get vaccinated or boosted. Join the majority in doing everything each and every individual can do to be more responsible and a lot less dangerous than the highly irresponsible minority.

-9 ( +6 / -15 )

but we should move on.

We have more (de-)pressing issues in the world right now.

I 100% agree!

-2 ( +8 / -10 )

There's always going to be an increase in cases when restrictions are removed. But that has to be weighed against the alternative. Continuing the State of Emergency and denying entry to foreign students would have been untenable.
