How will "Obon" look like?

I think municipalities across the country will right now be considering whether or not to cancel their festivals yet again.

Unless this turns around quickly I think they'll pull the plug on them, which would be a massive blow.

10 ( +15 / -5 )

And off we go.... Damnit.

At least now we have effective therapies and vaccines.

9 ( +18 / -9 )

@Bronco

The younger & immune uncompromised are overrepresented in persons without any vaccination. If you looked at the 18-40 year bracket for example then the figures would almost certainly look quite different.

@vending

If you believe that omicron is causing 90% hospitalization then you are beyond help. Before you point me to the links, I checked them. This tells me, the "hospitalizations" number is likely bogus i.e. what does hospitalized really mean in this statistic? And it tells me the active cases are dramatically underreported, because people can't be bothered with a PCR test for a sniffle or sore throat. So, the is greatly overstated, and the denominator is greatly understated. Result, your stat bears no resemblance on reality.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

The harsh reality is this is going to happen every few months. New variants will come and go and case numbers will rise and fall. You just have to live with the virus the best way you can.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Uh, Mr Vendingmachinemusic,

You do realize that about 70% of the “hospitalizations” are actually at home, don’t you.

Its published on the Ministry of Health and welfare website.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

You just have to live with the virus the best way you can.

Well no matter what people believe in I think that's what everyone is doing

4 ( +5 / -1 )

There won't be another s.o.e

After the election no need to pamper to the elderly

2.they cant afford it

Recent rulings on restaurant restrictions mean the barrier for closure is much higher.

People aren't scared anymore

Hospitalization rates are extremely low

Far more likely corona will be classified as level 5 within the next two months.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

How will "Obon" look like?

3 ( +7 / -4 )

How convenient for the upcoming election.

Aren't cases suppose to be manipulated downward because of the elections?

3 ( +5 / -2 )

No need to worry Tokyoites, as the Koike-San has got everything under control again:

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Unvaccinated increased?

Oh well

1 ( +3 / -2 )

@ian

Tell me this then, you believe 90% of people who get infected with omicron get hospitalized?

1 ( +5 / -4 )

@vendingmachine,

You haven’t found it yet. The gov has a definition listed for “inpatients”.

Can you find it. It lists “inpatients” as those requiring treatment in a hospital, hotel ot at home. Your next question should be how many are listed under each category. A pdf is posted once a week and I’m looking at it. Keep searching. You haven’t found it yet.

How many times does this have to be explained on here? There are not 190,000 people hospitalized in Japan - that is a ridiculously high number that would have been higher than in the whole of the US at the very worst time in the pandemic!

According to Google: The current number of hospitalized people in Japan is 5028 including 341 in intensive care and according to Tokyokeizai, 68 critically ill (presumably on ventillators).

1 ( +6 / -5 )

how many people have influenza and are in hospital from that???

You keep asking this, how about you actually answering it for once.

0 ( +10 / -10 )

New variants are getting worse folks.

Over 90% hospitalization rate now in Japan.

190,402 cases requiring hospitalization. https://corona.go.jp/en/dashboard/

209,842 Active case count. https://covid19japan.com/

Death toll is still low, but hospitals are stressed. Science based on numbers.

Keep on that mask, and get that boost.

Unfortunately, no open borders for while folks.

@sanjinosebleed

Actual hospitalisations minimal! That’s all that really matters.

FYI Cases Requiring Hospitalization July 05 daily count: 190,402

https://corona.go.jp/en/dashboard/

So yeah, I guess 190,402 people is minimal.

@samuraijack

educate me with links.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Nothing to see here. Carry on with your lives.

0 ( +8 / -8 )

How did you come up with that number? Or they?

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Maybe this time they will finally get a clue and realize that perma-masking and travel restrictions will not stop the spread of Covid?

...nope. I'd still be surprised if they don't do another SoE or quasi-SoE this summer.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

The only concern that I have is that our government will make a quick stupid decision like another SOE.

Especially as long as you have Shigeru Omi as the so called government health expert advisor in charge.

This Guy is cimpletely out of reality with his opinions and advices. Same like 90% of the so called experts.

As long as this guy is in charge as a health advisor for our government, every stupid decision is possible.

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

So, the numerator is greatly overstated.

That's an amazing read, really.

No pretensions at all of being scientific.

A lot better than the antivaxers'

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

With the numbers down here, local media reports that are stating that something like 1 in 4 of all people in Okinawa have been infected, and while the testing and statistics dont add up, they are including the numbers of people who could not get tested previously.

I guess it's just a matter of time now.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

@ian

How did you come up with that number? Or they?

I didn’t come up with that number. Read 5:45pm post from vendingmachinemusic. My post is a response to that post.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

@Ian

Sorry I meant "You just have to live with the virus the best way you can with the same level of restrictions that were in place before the virus existed"

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Sanjinosebleed....

Actual hospitalisations minimal! That’s all that really matters.

Agreed, but remember, the lag between rising cases and serious cases is about two weeks. Hopefully they will stay manageable so we can carry on without the need for more quasi what-evers.

-2 ( +8 / -10 )

Mr Vendingmacine,

Follow the link below the above article. it lists “Active cases”

Follow the link below that to the govt website, There is a PDF with all the data for everyone to read(Japanese only).

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Well, the doom and gloomers will have a conniption fit over this but just remember when the daily case count was over 21,000 a few short months ago we survived and the sun came up the next day. The healthcare system didn’t collapse and we are better prepared now than we’ve ever been so continue to take appropriate caution and relax.

@samuraijack

cite the url and copy it and paste it here in Japanese or english.

Not in your own words.

Yes, Nihon Tora

you and I know this but we are on a quest to find the one true document. Can you help us?

Oh dear another steve McCarthy tragic who can’t read…. The 190k are active cases but hey back in your cave Covid is really scary….not!

-5 ( +10 / -15 )

@samuraijack

Are you referring to the toyokeizai homepage. It is incorrectly translated on the english page.

Check the government data or the toyokeizai Japanese page.

"入院治療を要する者"

Call your local ward hokenjyo and talk to real medical staff. They can tell you how many in your local town or district.

how many people have influenza and are in hospital from that???

CDC estimates that, so far this season, there have been at least 7.8 million flu illnesses, 80,000 hospitalizations, and 4,900 deaths from flu.

here you go shill! Maybe your masters at Pfizer should do better with their influenza vaccine as well as their Covid one….

Wow …. The naysaying anti everything minority of highly irresponsible, science denying cultists, spreaders of patently false and misleading information must be tweaking …. 2 weeks ago… they declared Covid over … time to open up and move on. Even though Japan has been pretty much open throughout the entire pandemic! Still not sure what “move on” means though ! I understand it in the common sense of it but Japan doesn’t need to move on from anything. Life has been fairly normal ! Borders are open …. For those that don’t want to go on a guided tour and can navigate their way through a foreign country without much help , apply for a visa and do everything the jgov asks and you’re more than likely to be admitted! As for the debate (there’s actually not a debate, just those who deny basic truths as supplied by the jgov) about actual hospitalizations, the number of new cases published today are from yesterdays tests …. And so are these numbers, the actual number of hospitalizations….as supplied by the jgov!!!

Hospitalizations 177,388

Change from previous day +5,242

No! These are NOT the number of active cases! These are patients either in a hospital or a hotel under the care of healthcare professionals! Hence , until they recover , die , or recover enough to be discharged to go home , they are by medical definition, hospitalized! For those of you still in denial, contact your local health dept tomorrow for your rude awakening!

Mask up when necessary! Follow the 3 C’s! Get vaccinated and/ or boosted asap ! It only hurts for a day or two. Don’t be scared!

-9 ( +5 / -14 )

SUPER HIGH numbers! As predicted.

Masks on, stay in.

No more izakaya, no more hitting the bars.

Stay masked, stay home.

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

Hopeless... It's SOE again or Quasi-SOE... or Lockdown like China.
