Aww, you mean we only have two choices?

Infection figures typically dip on Mondays due to low testing numbers over the weekend, especially on Sundays.

Why does the "positivity rate" matter?

I dno man, here in Europe we are hitting record numbers every day, but hospital cases are dropping, and duration of hospital stays are shorter and shorter. The news is saying EU is considering omicron more and more to be a flu. My country is lifting most restricrions tomorrow.

Reminder that, despite its infectivity, Omicron's household attack rate is ~1-in-3 (less in fully vaxxed). People often assume that, if one person in household is infected, it's inevitable everybody'll get it. Ain't so; worth trying to isolate if feasible.

No hurry with the boosters then. Take your time. Again.

Enjoy it @Reckless, and stay safe!

Likewise. Enjoy the trip.

That's a 7.6923% decrease in severe cases for all the amateur stations on JT. Definitely something to toast to in the local Izakaya tonight.

You've forgotten to factor in the ever increasing "positivity rate" though, Joe.
Some experts (on this very message board) say that this is the most critical factor to consider when investigating the devastation left in the wake of the pandemic in Japan.

Same thing day in, day out.
Can we give this a rest?

There should be a site that allows people to input their PCR test results so that we can really understand the situation. The government has other issues at hand but we, as individuals, can do something.
I bought a personal PCR test kit. It cost about ¥1200. Their goes my beer money!
I am in contact with over 1200 people on a daily basis...¥1200 is not a lot of money when you want to ensure you don’t infect other people.
Took the test...waiting ... it was like taking a pregnancy test....The result: NEGATIVE...is that a good result?
I know you can get free testing but the results will take time.
The processing companies are pleased with the wait time. They get paid while your average Joe....has to find a way to live.

Already started for non-seniors. I'm booked for next tuesday already.

Gave up caring after year 1 of this nonsense

Edogawa, first wave of booster tickets went out on the 14th of the month. And on friday they reduced the interval down to 6 months for everyone.

while I’m far from a fan of Japan’s vaccine system, like many other things, once they’re rolling with a plan it’s fairly efficient. I got my second dose in early May, and received my booster voucher from Minato in late December… so I had my booster almost two weeks ago. They’re just rolling it into the local centers.
Of course, this was under the old 8 month timeline, so if they really decide to shorten that timeline chaos may ensue!

Is that was my father died of in July 2020? Nonsense?
I'll never "stop caring," nor do I imagine will the families of the other 5 million people who have died of what you deem "nonsense."

Not gonna happen, due to lack of testing. Maybe one staff member will stay home with the sniffles, while the other 10 asymptomatic unknowing positive Covid cases continue working.
drlucifer
Number of tests is not important, all you need to know is that Japan is doing very well and not bad as the usual chosen suspects. Something we need to be proud of
drlucifer
It doesn't matter because just like the number of tests performed the plebs don't need to know the reality. All the need to know is that Japan is doing very well compared to the selected suspects.

Can we give comparing japan's numbers with that of countries with high numbers.. it is deceitful comparing the number of positives and deliberately living out the number of test.
Hiro
A lot of kids getting infected. Which is kinda worrying. But maybe we have reach the peak already. Would be nice if cases started falling.

Comments about positivity rate are in a way hilarious. How do you know how it is calculated.
I believe many private testing centers do not report the number of daily tests but only the positive ones.
ian
Can't really rejoice unless you know the reason.
There are 17 deaths reported today so it's conceivable all 13 with severe symptoms from Sunday died and replaced with 12 new ones today

”There are 17 deaths reported today so it's conceivable all 13 with severe symptoms from Sunday died and replaced with 12 new ones today”
The 17 deaths were for national count. Tokyo only 1, an 80 year old lady, which explained the reduction of 1 severe cases to 12 today. Hope that helps. RIP to those who lost their life.
ian
As I mentioned you have to know if that's what actually happened. You cannot just assume that the one death came from the 13 patients mentioned from Sunday.
It's entirely possible that all of those 13 are still alive today
