Oh well, another summer down the toilet - at least I'll be fully vaccinated by Aug 12, not that it matters as I still can't go anywhere

Why? nothing's stopping you. They are hundreds of trains, planes and buses out of tokyo everyday. Even if you stay home, millions more are going to do and go where ever they want. So you wasting your summer for what, especially if you're vaccinated.

N or even just grab a beer, yet again.

There are thousands of izakaiyas not closing,

S.o.e affects your summer only if you let it.

Reckless

Good point about the economy. I’ve been doing my bit and supporting local businesses from the start, mostly cafes and restaurants also local specialist stores. I feel it’s our duty to go out, taking precautions naturally and help the locals. Whilst helping them also getting fresh air, sunlight and exercise.

Read on a Japanese site that Zushi and Kataseenoshima beach houses had cases already because probably all the young workers do not wear masks. Be careful if you take your families to the beaches.

Not surprised. Are you??

Actually, I am slightly.

I was expecting them to drop testing below 5,000 in order to get under 500 cases to impress Baron von ripped-off after he arrived yesterday.

I still cannot figure out how Tokyo's official covid side does it's math.

It has infection/positivity rate at 6.4% over a 7 day period.

But having manually gone through all the numbers I keep coming back closer to 8%.

I sent the link to family members that are CPA/Chartered accountants, and they to came back closer to 8%

At best the number of tests for the past 7 days in Tokyo is 57,950 the total number of cases for those same 7 days is 4,807 that is 8.29%

Not 6.4%

I got all the numbers from Tokyo government official covid-19 site.

Who cares only 19 died in the whole of Japan. Only 2 in the whole of Tokyo.

That’s 19 people who will likely be missed by someone. I would suggest being slightly less blithe about people’s lives.

Oh well, another summer down the toilet

Agreed. Not a decent summer festival in sight, the loss of which I'd wager will cost the Japanese economy a damn sight more than the loss of the Olympics.

Not that I'm saying that the two are mutually exclusive, it's just I know which I'd rather be attending this summer if I even had a choice.

I suppose it's camping again with the millions of Kanto folk who are learning to put up a tent for the first time.

No point in believing in these numbers anymore Japan has no clue how bad the outbreak pandemic is and sweeping everything under the carpet

@snowymountainhell

Sorry to disappoint you.

I have no intention of reacting anymore.

Realised that just letting it go as the mods will wipe it all out sooner or later and most here already know the drill, nothing will be said that haven't been repeated for months, Olympics, the children, vaccine dangerous then the vaccine is doing it's job, travel, bar, drinking, full if people, etc ...pick one or all.

So no point anymore to even bother.

I am just letting you know.

As usual testing down this is the only way they get lower cases.

10 ( +16 / -6 )

Less than 15% of the public fully vaccinated in 7 months, and we are about to start the Olympics. while this leadership moved at the pace of a sick snail to bring this pandemic under control.

@nonu

I 100% agree!

I will be fully vaccined from July 30th, but these idiots damaged our well deserved summer vaccation.

Ok, July 30th plus 2 weeks, but anyway...

At least we have the Olympics...damned!

10 ( +14 / -4 )

Another 162 more than previous week - 21 days in running higher number than previous week number

We have another full on emergency declared to last till 22 Aug - mainly to stop/avoid Tokyo & Okinawa residents to venture out during obon holidays in Aug month under the guise of controlling the spread

At the same more than 80,000 foreigner are welcome from over 200 countries world over - that too with waiver of quarantine requirements

Talk about double standards - what can go wrong - of course we have our standard slogan of "SAFE & SECURE" undokai....

20 ( +22 / -2 )

As usual high positivity rate.

Low number of tests.

Real numbers in the thousands across the country.

Oh well, another summer down the toilet - at least I'll be fully vaccinated by Aug 12, not that it matters as I still can't go anywhere or even just grab a beer, yet again.

Actually I just realized this summer will be way worse than last years, as there will be the insufferable Olympics TV coverage to deal with....
