It's all fun and games until Omicron comes to town...and we all know it will. I just hope to whatever gods and deities out there that it arrives after the holidays.

Awesome, I hope they keep the borders closed for a while, especially with a supposed new variant supposedly going rampant in Europe. Miss the fam? Don't live in Japan.

So, can we throw those retarded masks in the fire now and become free again?

Nobody is forcing you. I rarely wear them and have never had anyone coming to tell me anything. Even when flying, the trick is to make that coffee last the entire flight.

Enjoy the respite because when the new variant gets here, as it inevitably will, we will be back to where we were or worse. And it will be because a small portion of the population refuses to take a proven safe and effective vaccine.

So safe and effective that the double-vaxxed Bryan Adams got covid twice in the same month...

There are countries which have a higher vax rate than Japan that have more cases than Japan does. Nothing adds up.

Simple, less vaccs, less infections

The situation is the opposite, if you need to live in denial of the reality to keep your beliefs maybe it is time to reconsider those beliefs.

No coronavirus-related deaths were reported.

This shouldn't be front (top?) page news anymore

Yet, for whatever the reason it is !

Nationwide, the number of reported cases was 73.

Within these 73 nationwide, 12 of them were found at the airports during required testing on international arrivals.

So this breaks down as:

-there were 61 cases within the 125,000,000+ population in Japan (a rate of 0.000049%)

-there were 12 cases within the 5,000 (maximum) people coming in from abroad (a rate of 0.24%), all of whom tested negative within the previous 72 hours prior to boarding the flight that brought them here.

(and to extrapolate, if the population of Japan had an infection rate like with the international arrivals, it would mean 300,000 cases in Japan today)

Good news! Please keep borders closed.

and there will be a small percentage of deaths, like any endemic disease such as the flu; the world shouldn't shut down because of it.

The world hasn't 'shut down' and Covid 19 is not like the flu. Hope this helps x x

"The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo is seven, unchanged from Saturday,"

With tests on both days being next to impossible to get.

Enjoy the respite because when the new variant gets here, as it inevitably will, we will be back to where we were or worse

Anecdotal evidence from South Africa suggests symptoms are milder than Delta. The virus and its many variants will continue to spread, and there will be a small percentage of deaths, like any endemic disease such as the flu; the world shouldn't shut down because of it. Fearmongering doesn't help anyone.

The calm before the Omicron storm ... I hope I'm wrong.

Amazing!

Nah, just good policy by the J government .

Everyone knows there is a virus in the air. Elected governments have no duty but to reinforce health systems and back the hell off. The rest is my choice and yours. Fools.

(Scouse accent) Calm down. Calm down.
