Tokyo reports 960 coronavirus cases; nationwide tally 7,956

The Tokyo metropolitan government on Monday reported 960 new coronavirus cases, down 586 from Sunday and down 53 from last Monday. It is the first time since Jan 11 that the figure for the capital has been below 1,000.

The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo is four, unchanged from Sunday, health officials said. The nationwide figure is 61, down five from Sunday.

Nationwide, the number of reported cases was 7,956. After Tokyo, the prefectures with the most cases were Kanagawa (599), Hokkaido (536), Okinawa (493), Saitama (436), Osaka (424), Fukuoka (417), Aichi (332), Hiroshima (272), Chiba (250), Hyogo (240), Kagoshima (194), Kumamoto (163), Ibaraki (173) and Fukui (147).

The number of coronavirus-related deaths reported nationwide was 21.

When the numbers were really high, I didn't know anyone near me who got Corona.

Recently there are so many corona infected people around me but the numbers are shrinking.

How is that possible. Guards down?
